How do you feel about wintry weather?

Just saw this and am completely excited!! A serious snow-lover, I am already 100% ready for getting snowed in with hot chocolate, going sledding and building snowmen. I'm all about the white, fluffy goodness!!

...but I know that not everyone feels the same love for snow that I do.

So, how does the predicted forecast for this coming winter make YOU feel?

  • But for realsies, I grew up in Northern Michigan and last year we had the worst winter on record since the 1880s. Yes, 1880s. Our temps were in the negative double digits for months and the snowfall was absolutely insane. Our winter started on October 16th and ended with the last snowfall on May 17th. I would kill for a mild winter this year. But I'll be off work for 6 months so I won't be out in it hardly at all this year so that will be nice.

  • SS for me. I like a little bit of snow but that's it. I also prefer it on the mountains than on the roads.

  • I'm kind of dreading winter this year. I grew up in Ohio where we always had pretty moderate winters: negative temps, lots of snow for months, ya know. I spent the last 4 years in west Texas where we got maybe 5 inches the entire time I lived there. We recently moved to Alaska and the first expected snowfall is predicted to be in about 3 weeks. Can't say I'm super excited about -40s and tons and tons of snow!

  • I hate snow and cold! I'm in West Virginia and like someone else said it lasted from October-May! It was in the neg.'s at times and our power bill was through the roof! I'm not ready for summer to be over :'(

i'm in the blue zone.  while i really love snow and enjoy playing in it or just watching it fall, we don't have vehicles that can handle it.  also, we don't live on a street that gets plowed.  i don't want to be stuck at home for days at a time with a toddler and newborn so keep the major snows away!

  • I'm in Louisiana. We don't know how to handle it. Below freezing with a little ice on the roads is cause for a state of emergency. Plus, I prefer summer.

Yep...I'm good without the icy precip. Although I didn't mind the few "snow days" we had in the 1st tri. My tired ass hunkered down on my couch!

  • Snow is cool when my fridge is stocked and I don't have to go to work.

But I'm essential personnel and I live on a private driveway. So I'll pass on the snow.
  • No!! I was hoping we would get a break this winter after last winter. I hope this isn't true. I'm in the dark blue zone in the DC area (northern Virginia). I grew up dealing with harsh winters in the Midwest, but I've gotten so used to DC's relatively mild winters now. I'm hoping I'm not stuck inside too much while I'm out on maternity leave this winter!

  • We don't get snow, we get ice and slush. It never fails I have to drive on it for some reason or other and I HATE it!

  • I live in the light blue area and we got hammered last winter. I am a teacher and I think we missed like 32 days for weather last year. Keep in mind I live in a rural area and kids cannot walk to school. They cannot get there unless by bus or their parents. We had to end up extending our school days and went up till June. This left us with hardly any summer break. We start back this Wednesday. I like a little snow, but not like we had this past winter. Also my heating bill was outrageous! I can't afford that with another one on the way.
  • Whats snow? Im kidding, but seriously our 'winter' here (vancouver, bc) is mostly rain, rain and more rain. If we do get snow its like two inches of it for a day and slushy stuff for weeks and weeks. Unless you're in the mountains.

  • ARIZONA! Can drive 2 hrs to see/play in snow for a couple of hours and be back in awesome weather in 2hrs back. With the winters being like your summers. I will enjoy it. Although I do have to say that I sometimes it's a white Christmas.

  • I like to visit snow, but I live in Florida, so it's unrealistic to ever expect it here. I feel like we got shafted on this forecast map, though, with just "Wet/Cool," while everyone else got compared to their average conditions.

  • I enjoy the two or three snowfalls we get every year here in southeastern NM. It's a drier and less mucky snow that we got in Texas. But I'm so glad I don't live in a super snowy place. It's a nice treat and then I just want it to go away. The cold is not my bestie.

  • Considering my city (Toledo) was declared the city with the worst winter weather this year, I'm am not looking forward to a bunch of snow again. I love winter and snow, but it was like 6 months of winter, 6 longggggg months. We were all going crazy in the house. You can only play in the snow so many times before it gets old, and most days were way too cold (double digit negatives) to take the kids out in. Plus it seemed like we were always in a snow emergency so we weren't even allowed to drive unless absolutely necessary and businesses were closed. It sucked dick.

If it only snows on Christmas I'll be happy. ;)

  • I like snow for like one week - ok maybe just two storms and that's it... it's winter after all, it should be cold... But FFS I cannot deal with another  winter like last year! Thank God we'll be leaving NY and going to SF for one month in Jan to spend time with my family!

  • I picked SS. I like having all the different seasons, but I hate driving in a few feet of snow, white outs, and ice. My job keeps going despite the weather and there are days I am just scared! We had a bad winter this year and I am hoping for it to be not as bad.

  • I'm in the orange zone... Oregon. Last winter we had quite a bit of snow and ice, which I don't mind except I don't like driving in it. I'm fine, but other drivers scare the crap out of me. However, not sure how I feel about below average precipitation...
  • What I want to know is why Alaska isn't on here. Maybe it's because they've decided they're f#cked no matter which way you look at it - with the exception of last winter, that is. I had some long winters there!

  • I've lived in Florida my whole life and can count on 2 hands how many times Ive seen snow. I love cooler weather but have never experienced a "real" winter. Welp, we just moved to DC and Im in a blue zone so I voted SS since Im super excited about winter but everyone tells me it sucks. I have dreams of sitting by the fire snuggling with my newborns and watching my toddler play while snow falls outside our window. Guess Ill see!

  • This may be a stupid question, but what is SS? :-/
  • Looking forward to the extra rain in southern CA this winter. We really need it! Not looking forward to the hell that our roads will become. It sprinkles here and everyone forgets how to drive and there's a bajillion accidents.

Well we voluntarily live in Switzerland sooo...  :x loves it. But here its good fluffy, lasting snow, not like before in NYC where its nice for 5 minutes until it gets dirty, brown and slushy.  So its relative too.

  • My son was born in January and I loved being snowed in with him last year. We had tons of cuddle time! He didn't leave the house for the first 3 months of his life because it was not only cold but it was flu season. I love having cold weather babies.
  • If this winter is like last winter, I'm going to need antidepressants.

  • I love snowy winters. But the downside is that I work for the government and my work NEVER closes! This past February, when I was newly pregnant with this LO, I was driving in to work during a yucky snow storm and I hit black ice and ended up in the ditch on the side of the highway. It was terrifying. So even though I love the snow I'd rather not have it, if my job isn't going to close.

NC over here, I like the snow but we had way to much this year and DD missed a lot of school because of it. Also people wig out here and buy all the bread, milk and eggs at the store. They also act like assholes on the road. We had one storm where people didn't listen and then it took them 8+ hours to get home or they just abandoned their vehicle on the side of the road. It was gridlocked and completely ridiculous.

I grew up in Raleigh, and was in high school during that storm. Everyone left work at the same time, and my mom was stuck in her car for 12 hours trying to get the 10 miles or so to pick me up. She rolled in some time after midnight, and a good 1/3 or more of the school ended up sleeping there. They put girls in some classrooms and boys in others with teacher and parent supervisors, and we slept on the floor on our backpacks and using our coats for blankets.

...I think there was just 1/2" of snow or so. Lol fun times.

  • I'm in Maine (moved north from NY) and I absolutely love the snow. In fact, it's my second favorite season (1. Fall, 2. Winter, 3. Spring, 4. Summer -- I'm not a fan of the heat). Both my husband and I are skiers/snowboarders/snowshoers so we get out a lot and don't mind shoveling. And we have Subarus so we love driving around in the stuff. Plus, it's effing gorgeous!

That said, I DO NOT like winters that have arcticly low temperatures, whether there's snow on the ground or not. That's just miserable. Also winters without snow are pointless, IMO. And thirdly, I know I'm not going to be venturing out a lot this winter, so it will be interesting to see how different this winter will be.

  • NYer here, but originally from AZ. I enjoy the snow until about January 15th (which means roughly three weeks). Then I'm over it and miserable until April. It's a lot different when you have to walk through it. I envy you all who get to hop in your warm cars!

I love the snow, in the winter.  Some years it just lasts for too long.  And it always feels like it lasts longer than it does.  December through early March is okay by me, but no snow before Thanksgiving and DEFINITELY no snow after the first day of spring!

  • I moved from the midwest to Texas and I love not having any snow. I see we are predicted to have colder than average temps and above average precipitation, so yikes.. Not excited. Although, the city basically shuts down if t here is any ice, so I may get extra days snuggling at home with LO. :)
  • @apk4‌ yep, that's gonna mean another icepocalypse for you

  • I'm in the bright pink zone. The average snowfall I can deal with, though I won't like it. As long as it's not 2 feet at once and then nothing for a month or two like we've had before. A few inches at a time every week or so is manageable.

But, I'm really, really dreading the well below average temps. I'm going to freeze to death! At least I won't be working anymore, so I won't have to go out in it as often, or as early in the morning.
