TTC After a Loss

New here warning living child mentioned

Hello! I'm new here. I had a baby last October. 5 months after her birth I found out I was expecting again. I was thrilled!! I had a us and it showed a baby measuring 2 weeks behind and no heartbeat. My doctor made me come back two weeks later. There was the baby with a heartbeat this time. I just thought I ovulated late. Two weeks after the last ultrasound I started spotting pink. I wasn't too worried because I bled with my daughter. A few weeks later my symptoms had went away and I knew something was wrong. I went to my doctor's office, they did an ultrasound and the baby had no heartbeat measuring 8 weeks. They discovered I had ovulated on time just something wrong with the baby. I decided to have a D&C. I'm two months post D&C and my period seems to be out of whack. My first period post D&C came 4 weeks exactly after the procedure. It started out as spotting the day before then a full blown period. I'm suppose to be starting tomorrow and I've been spotting the past two days with cramping but not a full AF. Is this normal? My doctor did an ultrasound yesterday and found follicles on my left ovary and what appeared to be a blood clot in my lining. He said by the way it looks my period will be starting soon. I'm suppose to be starting tomorrow. He did a pregnancy test and that came back negative. I've never spotted before my period so I'm a bit confused. We're goning to be trying next cycle if I feel my body is
ready. Thanks all!

I'm sorry for your loss. The spotting you're experiencing is not uncommon. Cycles can change at any time, especially after a loss.

Please edit your title to include a warning since you mentioned your daughter, ex. :"Warning: living child mentioned."

    ETA: fixed grammar errors!

  • Thank you. I just changed it. I would assume it will take some time for my periods to come back normal.

It may take a while, or it may not. It's different for everyone. You just never know for sure what your body is going to do.

Thank you for editing the title. Welcome to the board.

  • I'm sorry for your loss and wish I could give you an answer but I haven't gotten to that point myself, but I'm sure there are many others here who will be able to give you an idea. Also, thank you for adding the warning and check out the TTCAL blog if you haven't already (it's posted in the top announcement of the board).

  • I just starting spotting yesterday and I thought it was my period so I didn't mention it to him. I just told him my period was trying to start. Now I don't know if it is or what. I've been having period cramps. I guess if I don't start by next week I will be making another trip to the doctor.
  • I'm sorry for your loss. It can take a long time for your cycles to regulate and they may never be quite the same again. Before my D&C I never spotted, now I do for 3 or 4 days before AF.

    When was your last period?

Standard advice seems to be to call your doctor if you hit 60 days without a period. I probably wouldn't worry about making another appointment yet. The fact that you're cramping and spotting, though, probably means your period will show up within the next few days.

  • My last period was July 6th one month exactly to the day of my D&C. Ya that's what I'm thinking. I know I ovulated on time. Now it's just the waiting for the second cycle to hit. I feel my cramps are a bit more intense now since the D&C. I've had pelvic pain since the D&C and I've been told that's normal and I'm still healing. Thank you all! We're hoping to try when everything is healed. I don't feel my body is healed from the D&C yet.
  • I know people might judge me wanting another baby but I want my kids close and my husband is in the Navy. He will be getting deployed in a year and a half so we wanna start trying as soon as we can. I just fear after this I won't be able to have anymore :/

I think you're really jumping the gun with that last statement. You just had a baby 10 months ago. Yes, you had a loss, and that's a difficult thing to deal with, but it doesn't mean that you won't be able to have any more children. Also, just because your period hasn't shown up yet doesn't mean that your cycles are super abnormal. You just had a period 27 days ago.

Please be mindful that there are many of us here who have been TTC for a long time (years), many have had multiple losses, most don't have any living children, and some are looking at the real possibility of not ever being able to have any children.

  • I was told at one time it was going to be hard for me to have babies. They thought I had endometriosis. I had scheduled a surgery and they discovered I was pregnant after two years of known of infertility. If all came back normal we were going to do IVF. I just wanna make sure this pain and spotting is all normal. I've never been through this before.

I get that it can be concerning when your body starts to act differently, but spotting and cramps when your period is due is normal, even if you don't usually have spotting.

  • Welcome to the board, I'm sorry for your loss. Spotting and irregular cycles are common after a D&C. It takes a while for your body to rid itself of all those hormones. I had my first period post D&C 46 days after the procedure and it was very normal for me. The second period I had, which I just finished, was super heavy, clotty and I cramped like crazy which is not normal for me. My doctor said it would take time to have my cycles go back to my normal. I chart and use OPKs and I was surprised that I ovulated earlier than I normally do this last month... if I hadn't been using the OPKs I would have missed my fertile window. So if you don't chart, or use OPKs, consider it because it makes knowing when you might ovulate and making certain that you did much easier to determine. Good luck.

  • Like I said above I was told at one time it was going to be hard for me to conceive. They were going to check me for endometriosis then they found out I was pregnant after 2 years of unexplained infertility. I went through lots of testing before I finally had my daughter.
  • Sorry I even came to this. I was just seeing if this was all normal after a D&C.

  • Thank you so much!! At least I know it's normal now.
  • Thanks again. When I went to my doctor yesterday he came bursting in saying "and why are you here?!?" I didn't feel like with him nothing was answered even after the procedure. I was a bit upset yesterday when he burst in the way he did. When he seen that blood clot he asked me if I was pregnant again rudely. He was freaking out on me and I'm not. I guess maybe looking for a new doctor will be on my list next. I will check that out. Thank you
  • Again I'm sorry. That's what I fear I was expressing that. I guess I should have never came here...
  • I guess I'm just use to having a doctor that actually sits down and talks to me about things. I moved to Florida from Ohio last year. My old doctor actually sat down and answered all my questions and actually talked to me.
  • When we first came here we were recommended to him and his reviews were good. But I'm gonna be doing my research. Thanks!!

    Ditto @Megdowntheshore, and @CFearsy.

You didn't mention your IF struggles initially, so to me, it looked like a post from a woman who gave birth less than a year ago and had a period less than a month ago complaining that she might not be able to have any more children.

If you feel like this board isn't for you, fine, but I really think you need to spend some time lurking to get a better feel for the board. You may find it helpful.

There's no need for the attitude. I wasn't rude to you.

ETA: Also, you're contradicting yourself. You're saying that you shouldn't have come here and that you know to never ask anything again, but then you're saying, "I told you I'm gonna look around." My point was that you might find this board helpful, but you seem to have already made up your mind about it.

Yes, you explained after the fact. I am explaining what my thoughts were prior to you giving us the additional details.

Either way, I'm going to step away from this thread because we're going in circles. Honestly, you should do the same. If you plan on sticking around (which I'm not sure if you are or not), you don't want this thread to continue in the direction it's going.

I've been trying to back out. I'm sorry it just upsets me when you ask a question and people sit there and bash you. I don't know I've never been put through this before I've tried asking my doctor and with the health insurance we have, we have to go through a whole lot to switch but I guess I'll be doing that anyways. That's why I came here to ask. I told the truth what I went through eventually because I don't like talking about what I went through with this. Ya know whatever I say it's all wrong anyways. Thanks for helping.
