Prayers needed for my 5 year old niece - Update

She has contracted meningitis and the Dr found a mass on her brain during a scan. The meningitis and brain mass are not related so the the docs are concerned about a brain tumor. We should hopefully find out soon what the mass is. It is so hard to see children in such pain. .

Good news! The mass seems to be a cyst and not a tumor! For now the doctors are not going to operate and just closely monitor it to make sure it doesn't grow or turn into anything more serious. We are all just so relieved it is not cancerous.. Such a scary day yesterday. It is so crazy how much can change in one day! She is still in the hospital recovering from her illness but they think she is out of the woods now. Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers - I freaking love this board!

Oh man. Hopefully the meningitis will resolve and the brain tumor will be one one of those tumors that isn't a big deal (as far as brain tumors go) and will be able to be treated without any incident. T&Ps being sent to your neice and the rest of your family! Keep us updated.

Woohoo!! What good news. The same thing happened to my cousin (minus the meningitis). They ended up having to do surgery to get rid of the cyst, but it was not a huge deal (from what I remember, I was 12 when it happened). My cousin had no side effects from the surgery and is thriving on her own today as a brilliant, smart, graphic design artist.
