Re: Random thread- for all things random.

  • A conversation that just happened:

Banker lady: can I help you?
Me: I would like to open up a savings account for my baby girl.
Banker lady: you want to open an account for the baby in your belly?
Me (with a "you're fucking kidding me face): she's nine days old.
    Banker lady: oh.

    1. This is why I don't want to go out in public right now
    2. I'm going to kill my husband for making do this before I was ready.

    Unbelievable. What an idiot.

  • @mrscurlygurl‌ Were you going to do a Monday PP healthy thread?
I was, but skeemer started a tracking thread...seems redundant to the healthy thread so I'll just let her run with that I guess.

  • Since when is sitting your children down for a 5 minute time out when they're misbehaving, "strict". My aunt just called and happened to ask where the kids were and I told her they were in time out for 5 minutes for for running through the house hitting each other after specifically telling them to stop. I believed that they needed to sit down and chill to calm down. She says "oh....my you have a strict household. Why don't you just give them a toy?"

So....I'm supposed to reward my children with toys for behavior I don't approve of? Am I just dead wrong?
  • Why does my baby hate my right boob? It doesn't have poison, I promise.

That's a health thread? I thought it was just a thread for running track for a week. Hm. Oh well :(

You are not wrong. I totally agree that children should not be rewarded for bad behavior.
Yup, she'd probably think I'm a monster since our not even 2yo DS sometimes has to stand in the corner for short time outs. It's my thought that he knows better and how else do you teach consequences? I'm not a believer in spanking. Time outs worked great for me as a kid. I think your aunt is mistaken.
Time outs work awesome with our 2yo. He will now put himself in time out if he needs to chill out for a minute. I can be very indulgent with DS, but discipline is not something I mess around with.

I'm a FTM, but when I nannied I started timeouts as soon as they knew they were being naughty. Obviously a timeout for a 1.5 year old would be different than a 5 year old. I'd take the youngest child to a different room and explained to him what he was doing wasn't nice, etc. Once they were older I adopted more of a "three strikes and you're out" rule. I'd take away a privilege or our fun activity for the day. These children had parents who had zero follow through and would give them anything they screamed for. The first time I took away our fun activity they both looked like they had shit bricks.
  • When do you all start with time outs?

ETA: I mean, what age is appropriate?

I started around an age where I knew they would understand what I was saying. So, around 1 1/2? The time outs get longer as my kids get older because in reality, a toddler isn't going to remember in 2 minutes why they were in time out. So, I keep my little ones in time out for about a minute. Now that they're older, I have a timer and I set it to 5 mins. They know at this point that when it goes off, they can get up.

She told me "why don't you redirect them". Fine, I'll redirect their behavior after I've made it clear that their first actions were unacceptable. I can't spend all my time playing Mary poppins and trying to quickly refocus their attention all the time. What's that teaching them?

I think we started around 18 months? We used the pack and play until he was old enough to understand the concept of a time out chair.

Yesterday DH and I decided that today could be my last day of work until baby comes. Alleluia! It's really only a couple days of PTO but I'm just so happy.

Yay! Enjoy the couple of days at home with your family :)

  • Must resist urge to scream at husband. I'm feeding baby (haven't mastered moving around and BFing yet) and we have doc appt and newborn pics this morning. I need him to pack shit and not hide in the kitchen from me.

I still don't want to leave my house without LO to be obvious that I just gave birth and am not 5 -6months pregnant. I avoid eye contact with strangers and don't initiate small talk, bc I don't want to be asked when I'm due when my baby is a month old. Just days after delivery, at my pediatrician's office, a nurse announced in a full room that I looked ready to pop. I said I popped 4 days ago. She didn't see my LO. Everyone got really awkward. I just laughed it off, but it stayed with me enough to avoid it from happening again.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. It sucks. I felt like crying all of yesterday. I can't hide, but it just stinks.

I dreaded the post partum phase this time around because of this very reason.  I went to pick the older two up from daycare the day after we were home from the hospital.  We stopped by the store and several people asked when I was due.  I still looked pregnant so I don't blame them but it sure doesn't  help the self esteem.  Then they were like, what are doing at Wal-Mart so soon! As if the cart full of pads wasn't enough to embarrass me.

My benefits department (which is located at a home office in St. Louis) called at 7:30am and they were pretty rude.  My HR department had me fill out the paper work to add the baby to my benefits but they forget a couple forms.  It's been over the 30 days and the woman was pretty rude.  Plus I had my 4yr old in the background screaming about what she was wearing and the new baby crying as well.  She asked me to go somewhere quieter lol.  Lady, if I could find that place I would have already been there.  Plus it aggravated me a bit that HR didn't have me fill out all the forms when I was there.  It obviously aggravated the benefits lady as well.  Great start to the day.

  • I am going to punch my HR in the stupid face. They can't do anything right.

So I started my Maternity Leave on July 11th and received my first explanation of benefits. I am only getting paid half the amount I should be getting paid bc my HR told the company paying out my STD benefits the incorrect weekly pay. They told them I only make half of what I actually do.

And now my H'R lady wont return my correspondence. sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

  • I am amazed at how different my kids are already. DS was paci obsessed, hated being swaddled and was super active and alert from the start. DD doesn't really care about the paci, loves being swaddled and is just so content and chill (so far!). It's amazing how early you get glimpses of their personalities!

  • DS, age 5, is overly interested in my manual breast pump. He wants to get his turn in pumping. I don't like to discourage his curiosity, or shame him over his interest, but it's getting kind of weird. My reaction has been to laugh hysterically as he grabs the pump, insisting on 'helping'. I've started to hide from him when I pump.
  • Just had Red Robin and Wil Wheaton is now live tweeting Sharknado 2... our last night at home as a family of two is in full swing.

Hoping all goes quickly and safely and you'll be a July Mom.

My 3 year old DD is the same way. I let her plug in the hoses and turn on the pump.

I just started pumping last week in preparation for nights out (and going back to work, but who wants to think about that).  I sat down to pump the other night and DS (almost 2) was very interested in the pump (double electric) and once the milk started flowing, he pointed at the bottles and exclaimed "Milk!"
  • I've been butthurt before....but this past birthing experience has really put in a new meaning!!' The places I tore, dear lord! Y oh y!!!!!! (Tmi) I'm sorry but I just wanna punch something from this pain. H hurry I need my medication.
