Update - Night In L&D (long)

edited July 2014 in October 2014 Moms
I went in to L&D last night (30 weeks today) because I was having contractions 2 to 3 minutes apart lasting about a minute each. You might remember I recently posted about baby boy having decreased and muted movements as well.

So they hooked me up to monitor his heart rate as well as my contractions and low and behold there they were every couple of minutes. They pumped me full of fluids, checked for infection, and checked my cervix to make sure all was well.

It was so nice to get confirmation that it is in fact my anterior placenta that has been hindering my ability to feel LO move around - scared me at first because they were having a tough time finding his heart beat (turns out for the same reason).

After a few hours under observation they determined the contractions had slowed a little and weren't increasing to true labor and sent me home to monitor them with instructions to take it easy, drink lots of water, and return if they got worse.

I'm still having them, luckily they've slowed to about 5 to 7 minutes apart. I'm wondering if I'm going to be able to keep working much longer as they're worse when I'm standing (which I have to for my job) and all of this happened after an incredibly short 3 hour shift yesterday. :(

*UPDATE*

Talked to my doctor again since contractions are still steady but have slowed to about 7-10 minutes apart. They're just having me monitor from home for now. Luckily I have a few days off work because they get worse whenever I stand up.

Thank you guys for all your kind words and advice :)

  • Oh no! Be sure to rest up when you can. I hope LO keeps cooking as long as he needs to. >:D<

I think they were expecting them to disappear completely so I will be calling back today after ensuring I've drowned myself in fluids just to be sure they don't want to do another check.
  • Wow! Be careful and stay hydrated.

I had this happen 1a Wednesday and they gave me terbutaline 3x and pain meds. They sent me home Wed at 3p after they went to 5 or 6 mins. The contractions finally stopped after 3 days.

So you could still work fine, I haven't had many since then but a few
  • Yikes, sorry you're going through this. FXed they stop completely and that you're able to work if you want/need to, or are able to take it easy if you can.

I've been on the "taking it easy" routine (not bedrest, but not lots of standing/walking etc) and I have to say I feel sooo much better, especially related to pelvic pressure, aches etc.

  • I'm so sorry for the stress. If your cervix is still long and closed, that's a good indication that those contractions are false alarms. I hope your baby stays put for a while and you stay healthy! xx

  • Sending T&P your way! I hope your contractions stop soon and your LO stays in for a while.
  • Did they do a fFN test? It is more accurate when it's negative. You have a 1% chance in the next 2-3 weeks after a negative response

Positive it's different, basically a toss up.
  • Wow! Glad everything checked out ok and you got to go home! FX they stop and you can continue on your normal routine for another 10 weeks!

Good to know! Hopefully they'll disappear pretty soon here!
  • I hope some rest and fluids makes them stop for you! I'd definitely keep calling with updates... Hope everything calms down and baby stays inside at least a few more weeks!

  • Oh wow, I'm so glad everything is OK! Way to listen to your instincts. FX your LO keeps right on cooking in there!
  • Glad everything checked out ok. T&Ps your contractions stop and LO stays put for a while.

FX that the baby stays put and no more contractions!

Are they recommending bed rest? I would be afraid to keep working or being active :(

They didn't say anything about it last night - but the words "pelvic rest" were thrown out there (much to DHs dismay)

Haha you would probably know. They stick a giant qtip in there and leave it like 3 minutes before they take it out with the stick just chilling out the girl bits

Not necessarily. When I had it done, it was a quick swab.

I would def. follow up with your OB if you have not already and ask about having a FFN test done.

This is reassuring because I had it done with #2 also and I didn't remember them leaving it in there like that. I thought I missed it but they definitely left it in there the other day what felt like forever!!
