07/28 - 08/02 Track Club Thread

Calling all FitBit / Pedometer / Device / Tracker users -

For those of you interested, this is week one of the check in. We'll start off taking it slow & as we continue to recover we'll up the challenges which will eventually lead to a Hunger Games style fight to the death. ;)

1) If you aren't yet ready to join in, just start posting whenever you are. No pressure. Just do what you can do when you can do it.

2) While we want to encourage people, we aren't your babysitters. You can't wonder why you're not losing weight / getting healthy / getting fit if you aren't willing to do any of the work.

3) Each Monday (as the newborn allows me to!) I'll start a new thread for the week where we can check in, chat & make new goals.

Okay so let's get started. Today will be an introduce yourself day & think about CLEARLY defining your goals. Without knowing what your fitness / health goal is, you can't reach it.

Re: 07/28 - 08/02 Track Club Thread

  • My ultimate goal is to shed this baby weight. I gained about 50 lbs with this pregnancy & lost 23 by giving birth. Since I've been home for 3 weeks I've lost 10 lbs. I've been using an app to count calories & using my FitBit. Ultimately, I want to lose 63 more lbs to be back where I know I'd be very comfortable & happy. However, I need to lose 33.5 more lbs to be where I was when I got pregnant with DS in 2011.

I have yet to get 10,000 steps in on a day with my FitBit. The most I've done is about 8,000. So, my goal this week is to hit 10,000 steps at least 3 days. I still get sore (thanks a bunch DD!) when walking a long time so I'm gradually building up.

  • Loading the player...
  • I don't have a tracking device, but would love to join in!
I gained 45 pounds with DS2. He is now 3 weeks old & I have 20-25 lbs to go. I also have a 2 year old, so finding time to exercise is tough. Luckily I am having a pretty easy recovery & I feel ready to move.
My ultimate goal is to get back to pre baby weight by Thanksgiving & to get back into running shape.
My goal for this week is to go out for a 2-3 mile walk 4/7 days and to do gentle core exercises 3/7 days.
  • I don't use any tracker, but I'd like the accountability and encouragement of a weekly check in. Maybe after hearing others experiences, I will get a tracker device. I think I will still try to participate in this thread. I'd like to lose about 30 labs through exercise and cutting out empty calories and avoiding sugars. I've starting walking this past week a bit more intense then around the block slow stroller pushing. I'd like to walk for 45 minutes at least 4 times this week. I'm almost 5weeks pp and want to start jogging and more rigorous exercise after my 6week OB appointment. I can't wait to swim.
  • My long term goal is to be at 125-130 and fit. But for now, my goal is 5000 steps a day. Planning to keep upping the goal as time goes by. I'll be back to working out at 6 weeks with a trainer. Haven't decided if I'll do weight watchers in addition. Last time it affected my milk supply and I stopped. We have a family trip to puerto Vallarta in January, so that's a good motivator too.
  • I would like to get to a healthy weight for baby #2. I started off fertility treatments for this one significantly overweight. Though I felt good throughout pregnancy, I had complications that could have (possibly) been avoided, had I not been overweight (GD and BP issues - my other complications were not weight related). I was super careful with diet and exercise while pregnant. Since BFP, I am down 58 pounds (about half was lost during pregnancy and the rest in the last 6 weeks). I would like to lose another 50. Last week, when discussing baby #2 and birth control, my OB suggested not waiting the full year recommended post c-section to start trying. Due to my age (I'm 37. Ack!) and the fact that we had trouble getting pregnant, she thinks its best to start trying at 6 months.

We live way out in the country, where there is not a safe place to walk (people drive 60-80 on our road), so being home, its hard to get my steps in. My goal for this week, would be to hit 7000 at least 4 days. That means having my crap together enough to get LO and myself out to some park to get our steps in.

I live in a rural country area too with no great place to walk outdoors unless I drive about 15 minutes. To help me get steps in around the house I try to walk back & forth through the house when I'm on the phone, when I'm soothing the baby & even do a few "laps" every hour. I make extra trips to the bedrooms & etc. It helps me stay walking with the added bonus of picking up the house. Some days are harder than others. Like today DD is extra fussy. Eta: try to remember every step counts. We are all busier than ever with little time for long walks or workouts a lot of days.

  • Well apparently DD is very opposed to the Track Club & sees no need for me to take any steps at all today. Ugh, bless her, she's been SO gassy today. She has yet to poop & I know that's been ticking her off. My eating has been awful today too. Very sporadic & nothing much of any count. It's 4 pm & I haven't even went over 3K steps. I've been trying to get her to rest since 10 am. I've gotta kick it into high gear tomorrow. I hope! @-)

  • I'm going to try small goals at first. Losing the total sum is just too overwhelming at this point.

    First goals:
    1. Increase my activity to 4 times per week. Right now I'm horribly sedentary.
    2. Get to 199 - I'm 214 as of this morning (8 days PP). Ultimate goal is 150, but i can't think about that yet!
    3. Be consistent and make exercise a habit that i can't break. Right now, it's the other way around. It's horrible. When I go back to work, I want activity to trump sitting at my computer.

I think the exercise part is going to be the most challenging. I can waste time like a champ, and get to the end of the day doing the other 1000 things that working mom's have to do, instead of working on myself. I'm determined to get rid of excuses!

  • I have about 36 pounds to lose to get to my most comfortable weight. I have several goals and will use fitbit and my fitness pal to track activity and calories.

    1. I want to be able to past my PT test (Air Force) which includes push-ups, sit-ups, and a 1.5 run in the excellent category by January.

    2. I'd like to run a 10k or half marathon in November.

    3. Complete a sprint triathlon In march.

Currently looking at training plans and creating an exercise schedule to start when we get home from the Nicu this week.
  • I have no device either, thinking I'll join in here:) unless another healthy-thread is created and more fitting.

My goal weight involves losing another 25lbs, though I'll be good with reaching 15lbs. I'm hoping to get it done before the holiday season eating starts. I am walking as much as possible w/ a 4 y/o & nb. I nee low impact stuff...so swimming and yoga are other options, though tougher to accomplish. After the GD diet, I'm interested in eating really well too. BFing is giving me that extra push to lose faster.

I don't have a tracker but am contemplating getting one. Right now I have 12 pounds to go to get back to where I was pre-pregnancy and 17 to get to where I want to be. I'm almost 3 weeks post partum and my goal is to do a half hour walk daily with longer walks on the weekend until my 6 week appointment. Hoping to fit back into my pants/shorts soon.

@BPaws‌ - Thank you! Same here - judging by your determination and success in the past, I'll be grateful/lucky to have you in my corner :)

ETA: if I get down to 165, I would be doing cartwheels! That's definitely going to be an interim goal at some point.

Has anyone had experience with T25? I've been curious about it...

  • I'm so excited about this thread!!

I'm up 20lbs from pre-pregnancy so my goal is to lose that again and get back to 145lbs. I currently am trying to do 5,000 steps a day while the stitches are still healing. Once those are healed up I'll jump back to 10,000 per day. My usual workout is hiking as we live on the top of a hill and have a good amount of land. Just walking the hill is a serious workout! I use weights as well and the My Fitness Pal app for food tracking. It's crazy how fast those calories add up!

Are we doing a weekly picture or anything?

  • My ultimate goal is to lose 20 lbs and get back in shape where I was a year ago.

My short goal is by the end of the next 3 weeks, to be eating healthier (cut the sugars, more veggies) and at least be walking/jogging 30 min a day, with yoga a couple times a week to begin building muscle again.

The plan for my ultimate goal is after getting cleared at my 6 week checkup, I plan to kick it more into high gear, start up Turbo Fire's 20 week program, then after that, get back into P90X and the fitness level I was at a year ago. My goal to have this done will be my birthday next year (end of April).

Sending everyone thin and healthy vibes so that we may all reach our goals! Good luck everyone!!

Bragging ;). I feel fantastic about yesterday! I had a "cardio sandwhich"- a walk in the am, jog at nap time and a good run in the evening. Alone!

    Amazing!

  • Happy Tuesday everyone!

It's awesome to see so many ready to participate & excited about making healthy goals. Whether you have a tracker or no matter why you want to lose weight (looks, marathons, etc) WELCOME. :)

Okay so my Monday totally sucked. Fussy baby girl, ate 2 pieces of pizza for dinner & barely did more than shower.

    Monday:

    Steps - 3,673
    Miles - 1.65
Calories - I didn't keep up with them yesterday.

Today my plan is to take DS to the park & grocery shopping while mom keeps DD at her house. This afternoon I'm taking DD with me to a doctor's appointment & mom will keep DS. I'm not brave enough to take them both with me to the doctor yet. I'm certain it would be a horrible mistake. Lol. So, I'm shooting for today to be one of the three days I hit 10,000 steps. I'm also going to be very intentional about eating & logging calories.

Good luck everyone! Get moving!  B-)

  • So, can I pick your brains a bit? Before BFP I was eating 1200 calories a day to lost weight. (obv more minus what I worked out to burn but equal to around 1200 by the end of the day.

With the baby, and breast feeding, I'm not sure that's enough calories. They say you need an extra 500 when you breast feed. Does anyone have any experience with breast feeding and calorie cutting from the past?

@Bpaws I'm 5'4, and the 1200 allowed me to lose 1lb per week before BFP. I definitely want to make sure DD is getting enough though. In reality I was eating about 1800 per day then working out and burning about 600.

Lola825  I lost weight while BFing #2 using weight watchers so I don't know how many calories I was eating.  It did not hurt my supply so it was enough.  I didn't start doing that till DS was about 6 months old though.  I had a brief supply issue with #1 so I didn't want to start too soon with DS.  Right now I'm just trying to find time to eat with this little munchkin.  He nurses all day long and I'm afraid to do much dieting at this time (other than trying to eat healthy foods).

I would like to join this group as well.  I'm 5' 1.5" and started out this pregnancy at 135lb and delivered at 158lb.  I'm currently 145lb 5 weeks post partum.  My short term goal is to get back to 135lb by exercising.  Eventually I would like to weigh 120 pounds but we shall see.  According to my optimal BMI, I should weigh 105 pounds but I haven't weighed that since high school.  I ran a lot during my early 20's and I still weighed 115lbs so 120 seems reasonable.

I just want to fit in my clothes again because I cannot afford a new wardrobe.  Luckily, scrubs are forgiving, so I at least have clothes to wear to work.  This pregnancy really did a number on my body.  I feel weak and flabby so even if I could just tone up a little bit, I would feel much better about myself.  I'll be able to do more after getting the "all clear" next week :)  My work out buddy is my husband.  He wants to lose 20 pounds.

  • Yay! I'm excited to have others in this with me. My LO is 4 weeks today. I gained 60 pounds, and have 30 more to go. I plan to lose it by Christmas. I would like to lose a total of 50 more by July 1st to get me back at major MILF (man I love fitness) status. With my first, I lost 80 pounds her first year with a breastfeeding, calorie counting and exercise combo.

I've been using My Fitness Pal and the FitBit. I get 5k steps not leaving the house and chasing my girls. My immediate goal is to walk 30 minutes a day. Once it cools down, I plan on working towards my C210k for my 10k in January.

BFing makes me a giant Cookie Monster. I look and feel better when I eat lean and clean. I have done paleo successfully, but I wanted more options while breastfeeding, so I bought the nutrition plan from the Tone It Up girls.

I'm excited to start Tone It Up. Those girls have hot bodies. I'm starting to eat clean this week, and their exercise program after my pp checkup.

Crazy statement, but the only thing that works is diet and exercise. For me, my diet is the biggest factor in weight loss.

  • My goal is to get back to the 130-135 lbs I was at before getting pregnant in October. I'm also planning to run a half marathon in November. I did it last year at 5 weeks pregnant and I want to do it this year with a 5 month old.

I've been doing the c25k program for a few weeks now. I accelerated it a bit, so 2 weeks in I'm almost done with week 5. I get 10,000 steps often, my biggest issue is keeping my eating under control. Tracking in MFP, which is synced to my fitbit.

How tall are you? 1200 calories isnt a lot. At all. I believe they say you need an extra 500 a day when BFing, but I could be wrong. With my weight/height I eat about 1800-2000 calories a day BFing and have been consistently losing 2lbs+ a week.

This exactly - i think with working out and breastfeeding, 1200 would put you into starvation mode. I would say at least up that by 500 calories to compensate, if not more. I'm also going to try to concentrate on the quality of the calories consumed as well, instead of just cutting. Concentrate on balancing the "macros" (protein, fat, carbs) to get good calories in.

  • I'm exited about this thread!

I'm 5'4 and weighed 165 two days prior to giving birth and 145 at 10pp. I am 18 days pp now but haven't weighed since 10, so I'm not sure where I am now. I weighed 130 pre-pregnancy, but I'd already gained about 7 lbs due to fertility meds and purposefully gained about 5 lbs before that to make sure I was at an optimal BMI for pregnancy.

My ultimate weight goal is to get back to 120-125 lbs, so I need to lose another 20 lbs.

Being 18 days post c-section, I've only been cleared to walk and I've only done that twice!

My goal for this week is to walk 3 days, even if it's short. Plus, I'd like to get my tracker out and start using it so I can get a baseline for steps/day.

I just started tracking my calories yesterday. (I did it all the way up until the day LO was born, but nothing since.) I was thinking 2300 calories/day, but that may be too much so I'm going to shoot for 2000 the rest of this week and see how that goes.

  • So...is this the new "Healthy Check-In?"

Thursday will be 4 weeks PP...so I haven't really started a lot in the back-on-the-healthy train just yet. I'm pretty much at my PP weight since I had GD and kept the weight gain to a minimum. I have at least 25-30 pounds that I would like to lose (if not more) to get to a weight I'd like to maintain for...well, the rest of my life I guess. I really don't want to develop Type 2 diabetes and it unfortunately runs in my family. Not sure what method I'm going to use for tracking. Before DS, I had success with WW. I joined it again after he was born, but I was nursing and I did not lose any weight during that time. I will admit that I didn't track as strictly as I should, but I wasn't over-eating I don't think. With DS, exercise was not a chore to get in but I see it being a lot more difficult now that I have two. I'll have to be creative for a few months before I can return to the gym and for 6 months before I can get back to the gym "full time" when DD is allowed to go to the daycare there.

So...until 6 weeks PP, I'll just keep exercising to some walks in the evening. I allowed myself 3 weeks to eat my favorite cereal for breakfast, but I won't buy it anymore (since I find myself eating like 3 bowls every morning...). I was indulging in sweets and carbs post GD, but I will start getting back to a more balanced diet here soon.

I will probably use Myfitnesspal (already on my phone) or a similar app to track food/exercise. I am curious to see if I can be diligent with tracking and try to eat more than I normally might, if that will help with losing weight.

  • @bpaws and @matthew930 That's what I was thinking as well. So if I did 1700 I'd probably be safe. MFP tells me 1600 based on my height and weight so I'll aim for 1700 since I'm breast feeding.

    Thanks for the feedback!!

  • As soon as DH gets home, I'm headed down to jump on the treadmill for C25K.  I also have day 2 of my 100 pushup challenge app.

I'm in the process of refinishing my stairs (removed carpet and stained the treads), so times when I'm not holding or feeding my LO go towards working on that for this week during the day.  I'm hoping that next week, I'll have a bit more time/energy to get a morning walk in.

Not really. I posted a while back asking who was interested in a thread for people who use tracker/pedometer/FitBit type devices. People were interested so this thread was started. However if other people without those devices want to join in they are welcome. I'm not sure who began the healthy check in thread or where it went.

  • Oh geez. I stayed super busy today with the grocery store, another store, the park with DS, taking DD to my work, a doctor's appt & my feet are killing me. Do you think I'm anywhere near the 10,000 steps I aimed for. *sigh* I'm about to log 6K. I know my day isn't over with but I had really hoped to get to 10,000 today. We're about to start putting DS to bed & the likes so I'm pretty certain the 10K isn't going to happen today. X_X

That's how I felt at 5900 yesterday! Ugh! Hips and feet felt done. Of course, my planned walking was cut short by a screamer, demanding to be carried, rather than pushed in her seat - and demanded I hold her with my left arm, screaming when I moved her to my right. The whole left side of my body was revolting last night.

DH and I went in to town for dinner and a walk by the river, so I hit my goal today. Yippy!!

It's hard to get somewhere to walk. We live about 25 minutes outside of town. Baby eats every 3 hours. I pump every 3 hours. I basically have to feed her on every trip I make. With an hour of driving round trip, and trying to combine as much town stuff as possible, I can't get stuff done and home in 3 hours.

Yup - excuses! But, it was a realization I came to today, when I was thinking of driving to town for a walk. "Just" a walk included a lot of time tables and planning.
  • Happy Thursday folks!

How's your week been so far? As for getting in 10,000 steps 3 x this week...well, unless there is some amazing miracle that happens I don't think I'm going to make it. I am going to have to set my goals a little smaller & maybe try to hit 8,000 steps 3 x next week. Yesterday I was an exhausted mess but today I'm doing much better so I hope to be more active around the house while my mom watches DS & DD for a few hours so I can clean, shower & do laundry.

    Here's my current stats -

Steps this week (so far) : Approx. 39,000
    Weight: dropped 1.5 lbs!

12 to go until I'm  back at pregnancy starting weight. 62 total to go until I hit my goal.
Food: I've been consistently tracking calories but I'm still not eating the best quality of foods. I'm working on that. I don't want to be a grab & go (which as parents we are notorious for) eater & I'm trying to eat better foods on purpose instead of grabbing a piece of pizza or junk food.

Aside from house cleaning, I'm not sure how active I'm going to be today. I am leaving home around 4 pm with family to drive about an hour + to visit a church my dad is ministering at. So getting ready, kids ready, driving & etc is going to take up most of my afternoon.

Hope you're all doing well. Try to remember to make a positive change today. Even if you cut out a Coke or choose a fruit instead of chips, everything counts.

  • I had my fitbit on a nursing bra and pretty sure it's in the washer right now. Damn it. I'd been getting about 7000 steps a day...
  • My fitbit battery is low, and since I charged it a few days ago before we left for my parents' house, I didn't bring the charger. Oh well. Add "ridiculously short battery life" to my recent list of complaints.

Still running when I get the chance, though uws22 insisted I take a rest day today so I walked instead. I've also tracked my food every day so far this week (without any cheating or omissions). Feeling pretty good about everything today.

    Pass the sheet cake.

  • Hey! I haven't been tracking food, but I've been steadily losing (water and BFing) this week. As of yesterday I was down to 213, which is a start.

DH and DS just went to Target together, so I think I'm going to do some stairs in my house. I'm not yet 2 weeks pp, but I can do something.

It's amazing how a whole damn day can go by and i haven't moved much :( we were at the mall for infant pictures today (I'll AW those later!), and there wasn't much time for a walk, unfortunately.

  • I've made 5,000 steps the past couple days which was my goal. I walked a mile today while baby wearing which felt pretty good. I haven't been very active since the beginning of the second trimester because of swelling and blood pressure. Slowly but surely I'll get back into it!

HAPPY AUGUST! I am so excited for a new month (and we restocked our coffee stash!!). In July, according to runtastic, I did 63.2km of walking or running. My goal for August is 100! I'm less than 10lbs away from being under 200, and I'm going to shoot to hit at least 199 this month. Any goals for the upcoming month ladies?!! Happy Friday! Happy Long weekend to those of you lucky enough to have one (even though I think it's only here in Bc).

Great idea @bpaws! An August challenge would be fun!

I think I'm going to make my goal a non-weight one. There's a pair of jeans I'm barely squeezing into & I'd love to be wearing those suckers with style by the end of August. It's tough being at such an in between weight. Maternity clothes don't fit & neither do my regular clothes. And I don't want to spend money on new clothes. So ladies...be prepared to be dazzled. By the end of August I'll be in those cute jeans showing off a smaller butt. :D

  • How is it already August?!?

I had an idea for the challenge. Should we all pick one item of clothing we don't fit into but are working towards? Something we think we might fit into by the end if the month if we keep working at it? Just a thought.. We could post a picture of us in the item at the end maybe?

No exercise yet today. DD has been rocking the sleeping today and I've been sleeping right along with her. We have errands to run shortly so we can get some steps in!
