No Monday randoms?

But what will I do to entertain myself while I'm at jury duty?!

Morning!

Re: No Monday randoms?

  • DS is so whiny this morning. Just melting down for every little thing. He has a cold, so I am going to attribute it to that, but really kid, you always have a cold. Swim class in a little bit, that should perk him up, he has been liking the pool lately.

  • DH has the car today and it's supposed to be 90 and humid. Oh, and we got DD the most awesome toddler pool with a slide and she hates it, so...I guess we'll be inside today. Woot.

  • Not much going on here. I should probably go refill DS's kiddie pool and take him out. Maybe we'll go to the park to play on the playground for a bit if its not too hot/humid.

  • I'm here.  My dad is visiting and I don't know what the hell we are going to do today.  Too hot to do much outside, plus he's 71 and walking long distances isn't great for him.  Thoughts? Ideas?
  • Im fuming at MH right now. I just went to make a payment on one of our credit cards that we're desperately trying to pay off (it has a balance of 3000 and we really need to get rid of that), and I found 40 bucks in charges from this stupid fucking game he's playing on the kindle. Some weird Legends of Zelda type game that he's apparently buying "lives"or "supplies" for. He knows damn well that our goal right now is to scrape by and not use credit cards at all, but he's deliberately using it anyway on bullshit like this.

Not to mention he's also been spending about 20 bucks a day on cigarettes when he agreed to just buy tobacco and roll his own bc its cheaper. Hes just plain ignorant when it comes to finances. I'm just fed up trying to make him understand. I'm about to just pull the bitch card and cancel him as an authorized user on my credit card. Sorry for the rant.

  • I am a little hearty-eyed today, which makes up for the fact CFA gave me a chicken biscuit instead of a burrito. (FWP)

  • $20 bucks a day on anything extra would put me out on the street. Dang, MrsT, you have been way more patient than I would be up to this point.

@jesuisfatiguee‌ I mean, dont get me wrong, as a non-smoker, i think rhe whole cigarette habit is completely fucking ridiculous. But..living in a family full of smokers, I get that it can be a tough habit to quit..and the smoker has to want it. MH has no interest in quitting, so I cant make him quit...but the compromise needs to come to a place where he can afford his habit.

Before his paycut, this wasnt an issue...but now, its become an expense that isn't feasible. He has trouble adjusting when it comes to budgeting, and thats where the frustration comes in. HE'S just not financially savvy.

Dear lord I wish I had the strength to leave my hubs, but no matter how close I come I can't seem to do it.  I petrified that I'll just end up going back or letting my family down, even though that SOOOOOO far from the truth that it's not even in the same hemisphere.  I started looking for lawyers, but things got good for 5 seconds and I stopped.  I called two counselors and neither one has called me back and my brain is going, that's a sign, you don't need help.  Argggg I know i'm a broken record, but I haven't the strength to snap the record in half.

I should say it's NOT physical abuse, it's verbal.
  • i'm having smartfood white cheddar popcorn for late breakfast.  And all this waiting around is making me anxious.  Will I get called or won't I?  Will I be picked or not?  Will it be a long trial or not?  Will I make the right decision or not?

  • Here's a random question: I'm curious how awful this would be to do. The only stride right store within 25 miles is independently owned and they refuse to honor coupons or sales. Last time I tried to use the online shoe sizer it was way off. The next time they run the BOGO half off sale I want to get the boys each a new pair of shoes for the fall. How bad would it be to bring them there to get sized but purchase online? I would love to support a local store but I can't justify that much more money. Sorry for the tl;dr.
I guess it depends. I used to work at a mom & pop owned tuxedo shop and occasionally people would come to us to get fitted for a tux at another store out of town. I would still do it, especially during slow seasons, but sometimes a bit begrudgingly. I'd feel less bad about it if you were going to a department store or something.

I probably wouldn't do this, but I don't think it is completely awful either.  I would feel bad wasting someone's time when I knew for sure I wouldn't be purchasing anything.

What the fuck cigarettes cost $20 a day? JTTW

That being said, if I was addicted to nicotine I would not want to be rolling my own cigarettes. Not the same thing.

I would have to collect cams or something to offset.

Yep. Cigarettes here are like 9 bucks per pack. He smokes about 2 packs a day. Shits getting ridiculous. Looks like another CTJ talk is in order re: his smoking/spending habits. And since I take care of the finances for our household, he doesnt see the transactions and where money goes. Mh needs money schooling. Big time.

My M-I-L buys the cig cartons from BJ's Wholesale and goes through a cartoon is little over a week.
  • @CtGirl30 I agree with you completely. A serious talk about finances needs to happen before baby #2 comes. Especially bc I won't be working PT, so we'll be losing that extra few hundred a week that I'm bringing in.

  • @mcbenny‌ lunch is my one thing I spend extra on at times. I've really been trying to even cut that out to save money, but it's really frustrating to feel like I'm the only one making the sacrifices.

And DH never comments on my spending, so I try not to interfere with his as long as bills are getting paid, but since he took a paycut recently and baby #2 is on the way, I'm feeling the pressure and some changes need to be made on both ends here.

  • @CtGirl30 Very true. Ignorance is bliss, isn't it? I wish I could get him to understand this shit. Hes the one making the money to pay the bills, he should see where its going every month.

He's not commenting because he is seemingly obvlivious, @MrsT0514.  I wouldn't expect him to if he is that unaware of the household budget and how certain habits add up / impact the overall bottom line.

At this point, I would get him off the CC, freeze your CC's in a block of ice and switch to only using your debit card / cash (aka, money you actually have). You each get a weekly allowance for "fun stuff" and don't have to justfiy it to the other person - this would be cash - and if he wants to use his on his ciggs, then great but once it's gone, it's gone - it is FAR too easy to start whipping out the CC to buy virtual lives on a video game or another carton of smokes. So no to that.

    We're very similar to this.

SO has no cards. I take that back, I got him a prepaid card from Walgreens. He gets an amount from his check weekly. The rest goes to the house. This is where he buys his cigs from. We have no credit cards so that hasn't been an issue.
This is good idea. Right now he only has his debit card (which once he deposits his checks, I transfer all of it except a certain allowance amount), and his credit which has a limit of 750. I already took my credit card back from him, the only problem is that I need to figure out how to unlink my credit card from.the kindle which he plays his game on. So if he should have a lapse in spending judgement again...its not going on the credit card.

  • Thanks for the suggestion @CtGirl30. I also have everything in Mint, so I can pull that up and show him tonight exactly how much money is getting spent on shit.

  • DS had to get 5 shots today. He now hates me because I had to hold him during the shots. Afterwards he wanted Nana since I was an accomplice.
