  • I think it's weird when people announce their pregnancy and then immediately tell everyone the baby's name. Maybe I'm just jealous because it was so hard to name my kids with my husband having to agree. I think it takes some of the mystery out of the birth announcement and opens it up for people to give their opinion on the name.
My cousin totally did this exact thing on the 4th when some of our family was up at the lake. I wasn't there but my parents were. It went down like this... "Well Aunt C, I took some of your pasta salad bc I love it so much but I cant eat it bc I am pregnant and pregnant women cant have pepperoni or feta cheese. Oh and its a boy and his name is K.... R....." This was how she made her announcement. I am so glad I wasn't there. I did a major eye roll when my mom was telling me.

I bought a new swimsuit a few weeks ago and our trip to the cabin is next week. I'm not feeling so confident anymore, and I'm thinking about "forgetting it at the house." Now the day I got it in the mail, I would've worn it to the mall but as of now I wouldn't want to wear it in the shower.  :(

    Edit: words are hard.
Wear that suit with pride girl!

Awe, thank you. Hopefully my self confidence changes by next week! [-O<

  • I secretly prefer kids parties that don't have a "theme". The themed party thing is so played out. Why can't we just have colorful decorations and simple games anymore?

My heart sinks every time we get another themed invitation.
So you would NOT want to come to my son's pirate party in August? Or his superhero party last year? Vintage circus party 2 years ago? DD1's vintage fairytale party last month? DD2's Snow White party next January? ;) They were all awesome, by the way. I LOVE throwing themed parties. *back to Pinterest*

I actually prefer themeless everything. The theme of DD's nursery is "I found this to good to be true mint green uphostered glider on sale and I'm going to get things that go with it." I'd rather have a party, room, whatever, be cohesive and look awesome without making people step into a forest or back in time a few decades.

say WHAT? Is this like "I think I'm pregnant bc I'm hungry/tired/thirsty/crabby all the time and obviously that means I'm preggo" or could you be legit knocked up?? Buy a test!

  • ::yawn:: I just woke up from a nap ;)

It's been a long time since I've taken one....that ice cream must've tired me out lol.  I just now hear DS stirring from his nap (it's 4 here...yikes!) but we're going to a cookout in a bit so I know he'll be up late anyways....oh and I'm not making dinner cuz there'll be snack-y type food at the cookout tonight.

    This is like lazy+fffc.

POAS lady!!! Good luck and I hope you get the results you're hoping for, whatever they are :)
I'm scheduled to get an iud next week so.... Gah, I will go in a bit. After my cookie.

  • FFFC: I thank God on the daily that I am able to watch Pretty Little Liars on Netflix, and that next season's episodes are being recorded. That way, I am able to pause, rewind, pause again, and then say "OH I see...." out loud while coming to these great revelations. There is NO way I could keep up real time without rewinding. It's too fast and shady for me. How are people lawyers? Some days I am baffled at how ditzy I can be. I have the dumbz...

  • I am beginning to realize that 3,200 sq. ft. is a lot of house to clean and maintain. We lived in an 1,800 sq. ft. ranch for 8 years. But I love our new house! Sometimes I just sit too much? I am way too proud to admit to DH that we could use a maid. He has offered to hire one several times. I DO have 3 kids ages 4 and under... Cleaning really is therapeutic for me. I just can't devote 100% of my time to my house. With these kids, some days my house only gets 10% of my time. I am so proud right now that my downstairs is spotless. Then I remembered the upstairs. :((

I have another one or maybe two. I was watching another little boy this morning around DS's age. The boys were playing so nice, so I actually did stuff since they were entertaining each other. I washed bedding, vacuumed our bed, picked up toys they were done playing with, and vacuumed upstairs. So that's confession number one....I think I'm more productive when DS has a friend here. I could always hear them, or was just in the next room from where they were so I was keeping an eye on them.

Second...now that I was so productive (nesting?), I'm wiped out. DH is home already as he gets off early on Fridays. I could have gone shopping on my own for some post baby stuff, but I'm too tired to get off the couch. We've already eaten out twice this week for supper. I'm really contemplating suggesting we go out tonight too.

This is the weirdest thing ever. You know theme parties aren't a new thing, right? I had a luau in the early 90s. Complete with GASP! Theme decorations. And why they fuck does it matter if the kids ate their cake on Monsters Inc plates? It made my kid happy, and it was his party after all.

I'm assuming OP isn't saying theme parties in general are bad, but that she resents the "pressure" to have a theme for every party. If so, I can dig it. The boys' first bday theme was "blue"....but we were all happy. :)

  • On Tuesday we were having a picnic.  A homeless guy sat down next to me on the bench and told me his blood sugar was low and would I buy him a burger.  I told him I had a Laura Bar in my bag and asked him if he wanted it.  He told me he did, took one bite then threw the rest on the ground wrapper and all.  So on the way to the park I was contemplating what I would do if that same guy asked me for food.  He wasn't there so it didn't matter, not sure what I would have done.

Granted I've only hosted one kid's birthday in my life and when they're idk five and begging for a my little pony party or whatever I'll certainly buy some tacky crap and throw the best my little pony party I can. Theme parties for adults? Puke. Like I have time to go find a 20's flapper costume when halloween was 8 months ago. Spending tons of time and money on a rainforest themed nursery for a <1 year old that isn't aware of their surroundings? No thanks.

  • This is more of an UO (or popular? idk) than a FFFC, but I won't remember it by next week. I think parents give their kids the benefit of the doubt too much. Point in case, the movie 'Cyberbully' on ABC family. The mom goes to confront the bully's dad and the dad basically never even looks at any of the evidence and says not to slander his daughter. Granted, that is a movie, but in general I think that happens a lot. I understand wanting the believe the best about our kids, but it sometimes crosses a line to where people are just ignorant about what their child is capable of (whether it be words or actions).

  • I have a birthday FFFC (and it's not that themed birthday parties are AWESOME, even though they ARE). At the kids birthday party, it was tough to get everyone settled in their high chairs/seats, cake ready, etc., and I asked my mom where she keeps her matches or lighters because I forgot mine. She didn't tell me and instead insisted that it was too windy to light candles outside anyway, and I didn't have the time or energy to argue with her. Well, we sang to DS1 and then I put his little cake in front of him, and he said "Heeeeyyyy! We have to light this!" and rather than hold everyone up while we scrounged up a damn lighter, I just moved on to the next birthday song. I have all of it captured forever on a video that my uncle took, and it makes me feel like a huge jerk :(.

  • My actual confession is that I always put DD down for her nap anywhere from 12-2 (depending mostly on when she wakes up for the day). I usually let her sleep until whenever or if it's past 5 I get her up. Well, we didn't get home until about 2:30 from running errands so she went to bed at 3. She could probably sleep until about 6 or so. I'm just letting her sleep until whenever. Screw the bedtime. It's just been a long week and DH will hopefully be home by about 6 or so.

**crosses fingers that DD keeps on sleeping**

  • My 3 year old sure enough flipped out when she saw princess plates. We HAD to buy them for her 3rd birthday. Little kids care.

I should have included in my first response that I have no problem w/ my kiddos picking a party theme when they're older....but if the theme is all up to me b/c they're babies, "blue" is enough of a theme for me:)

  • So we agree on grown up themed parties. Just saying personally, for my home, I'd rather have a bathroom based on coordinating colors and finishes than "the ocean" with like a fish switchplate cover. And as for kids birthdays, I mean I don't know what it's like for my kid to have an opinion or preference on anything aesthetic and I'm sure once that emerges I'll look back on my thoughts on theme parties for children and laugh.

I do stand by themed first birthday parties being unnecessary.

  • Ew!! I would never have a kid-friendly bathroom. Ever. Sorry but that is where I draw the line. The kids' bathroom is also the guest bath. No fish or Sponge Bob for us. I made their bathroom look vintage and whimsical. Stained glass night light, a few butterflies, and pictures of the kids in the bubble bath. DS has a superhero bedroom. The bathroom will be MY style, thanks. ;)

  • Reese is already for Christmas and Hanukkah. This entire week she has been watching the "red Eloise movie" (Christmas one). And it is very insistent that it isn't the "white" Eloise movie. It is actually adorable and I love Julie Andrews--so I have no problem watching it a million times.

Then I heard her on her toy phone having a conversation. Her end of the conversation: "Lets talk about Hanukkah."

*shakes head* lets get through summer, fall, Halloween first. Plus I am dreading the Hanukkah/Christmas shopping anyway--she has WAY too much stuff.

  • Wait, do we hate kid bathrooms too? Dang. My kids have their own bathroom and it's zoo animal themed. Tiger soap dispenser, the shower curtain has elephants, rhinos, giraffes and the such. It's cute and they like it.

I will let this one slide. DS had a Jungle Friends nursery and it was adorable. But I have seen Sponge Bob and it was awful. Just AWFUL.
