I will be about 8 weeks when I tell my boss/coworkers. First time around I told a coworker right away (I was about 5 weeks when I found out) and I felt pressure from her to tell my boss. This time I am waiting a little longer before anyone finds out.
Apparently there are a fair number of teachers here - love it! Anyway, I'm teaching summer school so I could do it now but we are getting a new admin in August so I think I will wait until I meet the new person. So probably mid to late September.
My boss figured it out haha and she was totally fine with it! The first clue was I announced our engagement to her and she gave me a look about our short engagement (October 4, 2014). Then we had a company dinner the other night and she asked what kind of wine I wanted and I told her I wasn't drinking that night and she just smiled at me and said, "I've figured it out, you know!" And I just started laughing! But I didn't really plan on spilling the beans until second trimester.
I also work in a school as a School Counselor. I plan on telling my principal after the NT Scan. I did the same last time although it was a little different bc he was new to the school and I wanted to establish myself as a good employee first.
I didn't tell the students but one of them asked me around 16 weeks and I told them yes.
I haven't told my principal yet as she is on maternity leave until the 18th of August. I told the teacher across the hall from me (teaching summer school), but that was because she would be the one to cover for me if I have to run to the bathroom. One of the students asked me today, and I did tell the class.
I'm a teacher, so I don't go back to work until the beginning of August. With all of my absences at the end of last year with an IUI, my principal knows I was trying IVF over the summer. Administration has been super supportive so I think I'm telling them during pre-planning.
I had this same situation when I had my DD. I found out I was pregnant the day before or the day after I got offered the job. I told them my first day. I wanted them to know that I was committed to doing my job.
I wish I would have waited a bit longer. I was naive about miscarriages. I was lucky and grateful that I didn't have one. Now if I was in the situation I would wait until at least 12 weeks, unless it was effecting my work (morning sickness or appointments).
I actually already said something. I'm a CPA and we are a small firm so me being gone for half of tax season is a big deal and they'll need to plan for appropriate staffing. I had my annual review last week and let my bosses know. It was no big deal, but I'm also at a very family oriented company. I'm pretty lucky in that.
