I did this when Finn was 4 weeks old. He was introduced to a bottle when I was breastfeeding, so the transition was easy. He still latches on my breast easily too. I pump around his feeding times for 15-20 minutes. Since he is sleeping 10 hours at night, I'll get an extra pump in before bed and I produce a lot in the morning. He just started eating 5oz. Personally, pumping exclusively worked best for me and Finnegan. Best of luck!
@hcam0707 How much do you produce a day? I'm doing a trial run & I pumped three times today & got 17oz... I read on the pumping thread some women get 8-10oz per pump session I got 8oz this am. I'm also taking Fenugreek. I plan to nurse this afternoon evening & they to pump after.
If they are good at filling up on just one boob, pump the other. Then at night pump after baby goes to sleep and before you go to bed so you can start being one bottle ahead (my boys sleep from 8:30-2 so I will pump at 10 for 20 minutes and will be full again by the time they wake up).
I pumped at every feeding. I would put them in their pillow and feed them while I pump at the same time. Then I would bottle that milk and leave it out for their next feeding and repeat. I get more than 8oz (4oz/baby) and use that to add to my freezer stash. If I can get that extra pump in all of that goes to my freezer stash.
Add Coconut oil, a good pump, and a hands free bra, and you are good to go. Good luck!
@csmily51- I pump anywhere from 26-30oz a day. I typically pump at least 4oz per pump and my morning pump is usually 8oz. I agree with creating a stash. I was waking up in the middle of the night to pump so I could have extra. I currently have a stash of 10 bottles. In addition, as a prior post said, I sometimes pump as I'm feeding the baby in the boppy next to me. If I go to the beach for the day or to my moms, I sometimes just breastfeed so I don't have to bring the pump with me. It allows me to not use up my stash and lose out on a pumping session.
Following this as well, LO is currently on a boob strike, and honestly I am liking pumping and feeding her bottles better. I have a question (might post this in the exclusively pumping thread as well) I need a good hands free pumping bra, however my boobs are huge. a large E when empty. Any suggestions?
Following this... And have a question. Do you pump one side or both every time? My lo is a one sides feeder so would I pump both or just the single?
If I were you I would pump the one side while he is eating on a super light setting. Then when he is done you are supposed to do both breasts, but I don't know how long. When you EP you are supposed to do 20minutes... I will try to look it up on KellyMom

I'm currently an F when empty & I got the Simple Wishes signature hands free pumping bra and it is working pretty well for me. Unfortunately I also ordered the DLite version because I couldn't really tell the difference so I thought I would try it - but if appears the DLite just doesn't have the extra strip in the middle between the boobs, which I really like. So I'd recommend the signature one for you for sure. https://www.simplewishes.com/product/hands-free-pumping-bra.html
I produce about an ounce/hr/side. I have to pump every 4 hrs or I"m crazy uncomfortable. He could only eat enough for once side at a time and so i had to start pumping the other side (plus it allowed me to get some sleep and my DH could feed him sometimes). Once I went back to work I had to go to mostlly pumping so now i'm fighting to get him to still nurse occasionally, I kind-of miss it. I don't really like pumping.
Some days I EP and some days I don't, but on the days I don't nurse I end up pumping about 35 oz. total. It was more like 40 oz. per day, but I spent a week and a half where I was nursing more frequently than pumping and my supply dropped somewhat (since it was adjusting to an actual baby's limited appetite).
If you're just starting I would suggest pumping after each nursing session until you have a bottle's worth of milk, and at that point you can replace a breastfeeding session with a pump session since you have a bottle available when baby becomes hungry. Like @LaBe44a said, you just have to get one bottle ahead.

Thank you ladies!!! I'm still BF, I've been trying to build up a small supply since I start work today! So far I'm 3 bottles ahead I think that's good. Still nursing when I can. Once I feel my supply is at a good level & I have quite a bit stored ( I relly dropped the ball on that during mat leave), then I will try to transition from BF to EP. We'll see how it goes!

@csmily51 - I EBF but pump for a freezer stash for when I go back to work and I've gotten a lot of good tips from the Exclusively Pumping thread
