Please qoute/tag and respond if you can directly relate to posts. Bonus points if you have evidence based information from your OB/Pedi/LC to shed some light on things too.

My baby growls basically all the time at nearly 4 weeks old. When she is awake, when she is asleep...

She seems to always have gas, or be trying to push something out.

Poopy diapers have decreased but are bigger poops when it happens. Still a normal amount of pee diapers.

I also cannot seem to get a burp out of her after eating. I have no idea why it's not working.

Anyhow, any of these...NORMAL?

@BMaidPlanner‌ - I get a good burp 50%fof the time.

@krystaj - LO is being a little more difficult with latching but I think it has to do with my milk supply coming in (you're a few weeks ahead of me and I don't know if it's the same issue)

@BMaidPlanner‌ my baby also takes a long time to de-gas. Sometimes she burps after eating, sometimes it takes a bit. Have you tried burping LO in a sitting up position? Sometimes it helps.

@bmaidplanner I had trouble getting burps for a while, but noticed a huge difference if I bounce her first, then pat her back. Sometimes, I can actually hear the bubbles in her belly as I'm bouncing her and then she lets out a big burp before I even have to pat her.

@BrightEyes112‌ - LO farts really loud too. I hope he's not uncomfortable, because it amuses DH and I to no end, and that would make me feel bad.

Ha, our LO farts like a champ as well. DH was napping the other afternoon and he came out of the bedroom to tell me she had farted/pooped so loud she woke him up.

She is bottle fed and when she's drinking she sometimes makes this hiccuping noise with every breath. It doesn't seem to correspond with making her more gassy / burpy or anything. Is that normal? We've tried different size nipples and right now she is on the smallest one.

@BMaidPlanner‌ I had to laugh at your first question because my LO growls too! In her case it is often when she is about to eat or when she's looking around but not fussy. No idea if it's normal, but I don't think it's a problem.

The change in poop/pee schedule is normal, according to my pediatrician.

My LO also doesn't always burp. She's not especially gassy, and sometimes the gas comes on after a while. I'm planning to ask the pediatrician next week about this. Not sure how much of it is my technique?

When do LO's go through the 3-wk growth spurt?

(Duh, 3 weeks...)

LO is, 3 weeks today and I haven't noticed any increase in eating...

@lest12 LO's occurred a little after the actual 3 week mark, but before 4 weeks. It was a very noticeable increase, like double what she'd been eating... I actually called the pediatrician because I was concerned she wasn't getting enough.

DD didn't have an extremely noticeable 3 week growth spurt. She was mostly eating every 3 hours, and for the last few days, she's eating anywhere between every 1.5 - 3 hours, but still averaging about 2-3 hours. She's still having normal poo/pee diapers and appears to be gaining weight (haven't actually weighed her, but her diapers/clothes are getting tighter) so I'm assuming I have nothing to be worried about.

Thanks, @Temurlang1‌ & @pepper6. Maybe I haven't noticed more eating but I did notice the newborn diapers were much smaller on him, pretty much overnight. I wonder if that was it. I suppose we'll see!

Same here, sometimes quite a few times in a row too. This could be related to the not burping thing, eh? I left a message for my Pediatrician asking if little remedies gas drops are OK because sometimes I feel she is uncomfortable until she finally passes gas, waiting to hear.

Lucy gets the hiccups a lot...mlike 5+ times a day. Is this normal? Should I try burping her more? We usually burp a long time after she eats,

LO snores. Loud. He is always grunting and making all kinds of noise. He has done this since he was in the NICU so I assume it's okay but is it normal at all?

Also he sneezes a lot. Another thing he has done since day 1. Anyone else have a sneezy baby?

LO is 5 weeks and already trying to crawl. He scoots himself slowly across the ground when we do tummy time. Seems super early. Does this mean we are going to have our hands full?

Regarding burping... we recently saw our pedi for thrush and I asked about not burping and having the other gas. He said at this age it's normal for them to still be figuring out the eating and breathing thing resulting in more gas and some babies just prefer to have gas out of the other end rather than burps. It's nothing to worry about. He also said it was fine to give gas drops or gripe water regularly for now to help him if he gets fussy with gas. Noah is also a loud farter. Seriously he makes us jump and sometimes I can't tell the difference between him and DH. We say that he has grown man farts. It's a bit ridiculous.

@BMaidPlanner I obviously don't know what you've tried with burping but both of my girls were hard to burp. I eventually discovered that if I sat them upright on my knee with their chins in the palm of my hand and rocked them back and forth before patting/rubbing their backs it helps to free the air bubbles from their little bellies and work them up. Good luck!

C sneezes a lot too. Like Krysta said, hard woods=lots of dust.

Also regarding the scooting, C does the same thing. H is convinced that he is crawling. C also rolled from tummy to back last night several times. He's 4 weeks, too early for it to be intentional?

@ricecakes1216‌ YES! Noah has figured out how to roll from tummy to back as well. I think originally it was unintentional but now you can see him trying to do it. Still not sure if he has enough brain power yet to really understand what he's doing though.

my LO is doing this too...i remember being freaked about it with DS 5 years ago...was told its totally normal and it has something to do with their diaphragm growing... they just sound soooo uncomfortable - i feel bad!

She constantly clears her throat after eating.

At 3 weeks old, she is already fighting sleep when she is tired and then does the "sleepy cry" oieeee if you are tired, go to sleep LO then you wont be cranky!

@JulieSmiles‌ My LO does that too and our Pedi said that it's a normal thing resulting from their stomach being full and pressing on the diaphragm.

He's also super gassy and makes all sorts of growling, straining , and weird noises day and night. No crying so it's not colic but our doctor said it's totally normal because of the new bacteria developing in the gut at this age.

I've always done the rocking, too, when I'm having trouble getting a burp.

. Sometimes it even becomes more of a tilt in every way -front, back, side to side to get the bubbles to go up and be released with the patting/rubbing.

I will try this, she farts loud and proud but working a burp out, especially in the middle of the night, just doesn't work the traditional way!

My baby will never let go of the breast. She'll stay on for hours if I let her... normal?

I'm thinking not normal, that she's not getting enough milk out and that's why she wants to be on there forever.

I'd like to know this too. I've tried to listen to the pre-cry for the cue word. And often he just conks out, after fighting it for about 5 minutes.

This happens here, and ism tarting to get the sense that he gets overtired/overstimulates and is just craving some snuggle time.

My LO is always growling or grunting too.

Pediatrician said sneezing a lot is normal.

My lo doesn't lift her head up on tummy time but tries to push with her legs too. No idea! She lifts her head up all the time, just not during tummy time.

My LO also sneezes and hiccups frequently but doesn't burp much. Apparently breastfed babies burp less than formula fed babies?

Mine sounds congested a lot of the time, but there's nothing coming out with the aspirator. Normal?

Only the nose frida worked for me, and little remedies saline drops first sometimes.

Yes! My LO sounds like she is asthmatic after she eats. It is a scary sound. She also grunts a lot. As soon as she falls into a deep sleep, she is silent.

LO is losing some of her hair. My mom reassures me this is normal, but is it? How much do they lose? We've been joking that she is quickly going bald like her father!

@JulieSmiles‌ A good friend's son lost most his hair. It grew back and it's super thick. My mom also told me that C will lose his hair, so I think it's normal.

@ricecakes1216 and @shellbell813‌ my little guy also did the rolling from tummy to back several times at exactly 3 weeks old! He really, at the time, seemed intentional about getting off his belly however I don't think he really 'got' what he was doing or how he did it. He hasn't been successful doing it again and he's almost 6 weeks now. Every dr that has seen him has commented on how strong he is, so I too am very interested in whether he'll be an early mover. I suppose it is normal for some babies to accidentally get the right moves down for a few early rolls before they are 100% intentional.

@JulieSmiles‌ - no experience, but I always bought babies were supposed to lose their hair. I remember hearing this a long time ago. I've actually been waiting for lo's hair to fall out, lol.

We had a one week and two week check up and were told today that we don't need to come back until 2 months.

We didn't have a 1 month checkup. We had a 2 week, then because DS didn't hit birth weight by then, we had a 3 week as well. Next appt is for 2 months. One month would have been like 4 weeks in a row of appts...not sure if that would have been standard to skip 1 month or just because we had to come in at 3 weeks as well.

@Kbinford01‌- My LO hates a quiet room. This is where the white noise is helpful. Even the nature sounds the PnP and swing make are helpful. According to HBOTB, the womb is quite noisy. Therefore, complete silence is quite strange to many newborns

We had the two week appointment right after DS was released from the NICU and because he was doing so well weren't scheduled again until 2 months.

We had the two week and then were told to schedule a six week appointment where he'd will get his shots.
