I figured last nights five hour stretch was too good to be true. LO has been up ever hour and a half/two hours fussing and crying, and it sounds like he's stuffy. Anything to do for a stuffy newborn?
Aspirator. Sometimes they are stuffy because milk came out their nose and they get milk boogers, Cora constantly has milk boogers. If it is truly sickness boogers you put contact solution on a q-tip and gently swizzle it around in their nose to help break up the gunk so you can aspiratorize it or wipe it away. (Contact solution is interchangeable with saline solution, I just already have contact solution so that's what I use! Pediatrician approved to do so)
Eta: Vicks vapor rub on the chest and bottoms of their feet helps too
Is it safe to use Vicks on an infant? I somehow remember not using that on DS til he was much older.
We have a special type specifically for babies. It has a different set of essential oils. The normal type is not okay.
I used Vicks on my first daughter a few times when she was an infant. It's a relatively natural product and as long as you don't feed it to them I don't see why it would hurt. If there is some reason that anyone knows of that it's not safe please share! I'd like to know! We actually have a vaporizer that you can put Vicks on and as it humidifies the room it creates a Vicks vapor. Worked wonders with my first daughter, even when she was a newborn.
Aamie won't sleep unless she is on her tummy or side. So I give up on trying to put her down on her back. Also half the time she rolls on to her side or tummy anyway. I hope that doesn't make me a bad mom.
With both of my girls, once I could tell they had decent head control and could turn their head side to side while laying on their tummy I let them sleep on their belly. My first one would only sleep on her belly so I figured why fight it? The whole no laying on their belly to sleep thing is a relatively new rule. Most of us (and I know for sure that I was) were probably put on out bellies to sleep and we obviously survived so I figure it's not that awful.

E is fine being swaddled and laid on her back, so that's what we do for her. However, K hates lying on her back unless she's in her RNP. Since I'm trying to not become dependent on using that to get her to sleep, I've given in and started laying her on her stomach. She has amazing neck control, so I really don't worry about her breathing. Bonus--no worries about flat head. I say do whatever works for your child.
So I know it's far from MOTN right now, but my girls actually slept through last night! They were both asleep no later than 11:30, and didn't wake up until 6 this morning. Then they turned around and slept until 10:30! The big downside is that ever since they've been more or less awake, and eating in 1.5 hour spurts. I've just finally gotten them settled down so I can pump for only the third time today. Hopefully supply won't be impacted, but honestly I'll break down and supplement if they let me get a full night's sleep.
For all the ladies wanting to kick my teeth in right now, my girls are already 9 weeks old, so I'm assuming this is a combination of luck and them getting older. Hopefully your LOs will be here before too long!
Last night Stella finally went down around midnight (after 2.5 hours of screaming for no apparent reason) and she slept until 4:30. That's a wayyy later bedtime than we'd like but at 8 days in, we are just in survival mode still.
My app tells me that LO feeds an average of 20 times a day and I spend about 5 hours a day with him on the boob. He's 2.5 weeks but that still seems like a lot. How about you guys?
We go by when he needs to eat, no specific schedule although that would be nice.
@whoberry -the most time my LO wS on the boob was 3.5 hours but he is a feed every 3-4 hours kind of guy so if you are a every 2 then 5 hours seems about right.

jealous of those of you with bedtime. Also, over two months in and we don't really have a nighttime routine, BUT we finally moved into our new house so I won't have to go between two houses anymore so we can work on a routine now.
We start to dim lights and quiet things down about 11/1130 but she doesn't fall all the way asleep until about 1230. Luckily she's been sleeping about four hours after that.
We are 12 days in and try to start out night time routine around 915 or so. He ate last at 930 and went down and just now, after four hours, got up. This is a new thing so I'm crossing my fingers we get more four hour stretches...
I am trying to wean us off the nipple shield since it seems like my nips are finally sticking out. But it hurts like crazy when LO latches on the left side. Might have to rotate the shield back in for MOTN, I don't have much patience for pain now.
I start by giving LO a bath usually between 8:30-9 every night, Jammie's, nurse and then he usually falls asleep. Sometimes he will wake back up and need to be rocked again like tonight. He finally fell asleep for good at 10. DH and I stayed up late and now I'm debating on just staying up until he wakes him as he is usually up every two hours.. I startled him and this is what he did: Put em up! He's so stinking cute I almost jus woke him up but I refrained...
First night with S in her crib. She woke up - DH heard her before she got too worked up and luckily she didn't wake up M - and I nursed, he have her a bottle, and I pumped. Now I'm watching her settle down to sleep on the monitor - such a loud, noisy baby! I don't remember her being this noisy in our room.
My first MOTN check in. Usually I try to get D fed, changed, and back to bed ASAP but tonight he's been fighting sleep for the past 2 hours. He's fed, changed, swaddled (which is pissing him right off) and I've been walking the house with him for over an hour -but no dice. So I figured I'd just plop myself down and bump. C will be up in less than an hour so it looks like I'm going to be needed lots of coffee to make it through my day. Ugh.
As far as bedtime routines, we found that it really helped with C. So far we haven't settled into anything with D but I usually aim to have him asleep before we put C to bed at 8:30.
NO SLEEP FOR THIS MOMMA!!! @Savvy122 I'm right there with you. DHs grandma held Connor for most of the day in her recliner rocker, so he slept all day (which I've been trying to avoid, but good ol granny has no boundaries bc we are living in her house and won't leave them alone.) So he was up right when I tried to go ti bed at 12, and stayed up until 4. At 3:45 Kellan got up, and he slept a bit yesterday (not all day though, luckily) so now I am still up to hold him. We have their 1month checkup today, so I know that today is going to be a looooong day... mehhhhhh. Time to figure out a routine. I've just been too lazy to until now.
LO has been up since 3. She ate then I put her down, she fussed, she was up again, ate, fussed, took 5-6 giant poops that were slightly green the chilled out. Trying to get her down again. I think I slept 4 hours total in the last 24 hours.

And here I thought sleep begets sleep. Definitely not the case in my house tonight. So. Tired.

I know... I want to nod off but every time I do, Kellan starts fussing. And DH is over there snoozing away, doesn't even budge when a baby cries. And any time I bring up that it's not fair that I'm the one who stays up all night when we are FFing (so he could if he would) he gets all pissy and defensive.

I had no idea I was supposed to put my newborn on a bedtime schedule. Does that work?

I am pretty sure LO and dairy do not mix
