Lydia Jane arrived on Sunday evening at 38 weeks, weighing 5 lbs. 12 oz.
After posting Saturday in the labor symptoms thread that I had "zero, zilch, nada" for my labor symptoms, I woke up Sunday morning with some very mild, very irregular BH. Around noon, I started joking with DH that I couldn't go into labor for another few days because I wasn't ready yet. Around 3pm, the contractions were more regular at about 10 minutes apart, but not painful at all. Around 5pm, they were still 10 min apart but getting a bit more painful, so I called the midwife on call, who said to hang tight at home for a bit. I called my mom to let her know we might need her to stay with DS, but I still wasn't that convinced anything was going to happen.
Around 5:30 pm, I made my son dinner, and during that10 minutes or so, contractions picked up quickly to about 5 minutes apart. I told my DH to start getting stuff loaded, but I was still calm and not in a ton of pain. By the time we left home, things were painful but very manageable. We live 12 minutes from the hospital so I wasn't worried, mostly worried that I was probably only 4cm and I thought I was having a hard time coping with the pain considering I couldn't possibly be that dialated.
8 minutes into the drive I knew we were in trouble and I told DH to run a few yellow lights. 11 minutes in I could tell I was starting to push. 12 minutes in we arrived at the hospital. 13 minutes in she was born in the front seat of my DHs car. DH caught her, a nurse came right out, pulled her up onto my chest and there she was. DS (who was unfortunately in the back seat the whole time) was pretty scared because I was in so much pain, but my parents arrived within a minute or two of us, so were able to get him out and comfort him quickly.
They took me in, I delivered the placenta and they stitched me up (2nd degree tear). Lydia is a tiny little thing (two weeks earlier than DS and 1.5 lbs lighter) but she's healthy and nursing well. From the first "hard" contraction to her birth was less than 40 minutes, which is just insane to me. It's definitely not how I wanted it to happen (my biggest regret is DS having to be scared) but thankfully everyone is safe and healthy.
Happy birthing to everyone this July!
