My DD is suddenly refusing one boob every time we feed. I've tried it first, second, when she is calm, etc but she just screams when given that one. It's engorged since she keeps refusing so I know its producing milk. Any ideas why she is doing this?
Engorgement might be making your nipples flat which can make latching more difficult. This is happening with DS for me as well. I self express a little bit and manually trying to make my nipples more pointed. I hope you can get things going!
It used to be that LO had a poopy diaper at every feeding, but the last few days, he's just been wet with a few poopy diapers in between. How about your LO? Is this normal?
Mine are a little over a month and are having more plain wet diapers than before.

Here too, and totally normal per our visiting nurse.
Do babies going through a growth spurt refuse to sleep? D has regressed back to eating every 1.5-2 hours (he was going about 3 hours before), which is fine, but he's also flat out refusing to sleep. He's clearly exhausted but fights all of my efforts to get him to sleep. His naps yesterday consisted of 15-20 minute cat naps and he was up a good portion of the night too. And when he's awake, he's only happy (read: quiet) if I'm walking around with him. I AM EXHAUSTED!
SAME HERE. We are 2 weeks and 6 days. It's been rough.

@crhein26 EPer here too! I'm going on 5 weeks of this and I really don't mind it. I'm doing things my own way and totally disregarding advice of more knowledgeable people. At first, I pumped every 3 hours, but as time went on, I started going a little bit longer. One night, I missed a whole pump session and when I woke up, I was terrified that I completely screwed up my supply. I pumped double the volume because I was a little engorged from missing that 1 session. Well, ever since then, I decided to go every 6 hours instead. Hasn't failed me yet. I'm aware that it might not work for everyone, but just wanted to let you know that it's okay to deviate from what "they" say to do.
So glad to see someone else weighing in on this! I've stretched out my pumping sessions and found the same thing--as long as I'm emptying the boobs, the volume I get is pretty much the same whether I pump 10 or 5 times a day. I was worried that I was deluding myself, but it seems like once supply is established it works? I'm actually trying to pump more often over the next couple days to increase supply a bit, so I'll let you know if I see any marked difference after going back to that schedule..
I went out to get a bottle for C and discovered I didn't put the breastmikk I pumped before bed into the fridge. I could cry. I only got an ounce. Can't believe that happened..
It should still be ok! I've read breast milk stays good at room temp for at least 4 hours (some say up to 8 depending how cool your house is).
An ounce is still something mama. You're doing a good job!
@ricecakes1216 - WSS- BM is good for 4 hours on the counter, 4 days in the fridge, and 4 months in the freezer.. Pumping is hard...I pump every three to five hours and told DH I would rather go through labor all over again than pump like this for the next ? Months!!! And I'm only 2.5 weeks in. Hang I there and don't get discouraged!!!
That makes me so happy! Thanks ladies! Last night sucked, this makes my morning!

To some degree you do hit a stride and it isn't as terrible. With DS#1 I did a lot of pumping in the beginning due to latching issues (which I have again with DS#2 since he is another lazy 36 weeker) then eventually I was just pumping at work which was still a ton of pumping. I think the very beginning was the worst then you just get used to as just being a part of everyday life. I was certainly glad to quit when I hit a year but the time really did fly by when I looked back on it. Do you have a hands free pumping bra? Being able to do something fun while pumping makes it much more bearable.
It's only midnight here but I am already bored feeding LO for the last 3 hours. He is 2 weeks old now and still cluster feeds all the time. Especially between 9 pm and 1 am. I really need to lay down and my glider is soooo uncomfortable.

Thanks for the encouragement! I need to get a hands free bra. I just keep thinking that one day it will click and my supply will satisfy him so I can just breast feed. It's wishful thinking so I need to invest in one.
I should be sleeping before our first MOTN feeding but I'm consumed with thoughts about going back to work. I posted this on AW thread but thought i would post here too. LO is 7 weeks old today, which means I only have 5 weeks left of my maternity leave. I am probably thinking too much about it now, but I am having a hard time thinking about leaving him (with my husband, can't imagine if he was doing to DC) and being without him all day. I am going to have to pump and BF during lunch and at night and that makes me really sad too, as both enjoy our BF sessions. Any advice?
Ok I take it back. She keeps falling asleep and letting it fall out of her mouth and then gets super pissed. I need to strap it to her face somehow...
(Only kidding please don't call cps)
Get a wubbanub. I'm telling you, it's a life saver. Whatever rocker, swing, bouncer you have that has something to strap them in you can tuck the animal part of the paci into it and it'll keep it in their mouths. They're about $15 at babies r us. All of my future mama friends are getting one for their showers from now on!
H is gonna get beat. Last night was rough so I wAs extra tired yesterday. He told me as we were going to bed tonight that he's feed C while I pumped. So C begins waking up and H gets all huffy and pretends he didn't say anything. He never has to get up with him because he works so I take over at night. One freaking wake up isn't going to hurt! I'd give anything to have the sleep he gets. Jerk.
@izzetoot and @nutmegs8 I had not heard of the WubbaNub…getting one ASAP, thanks for the rec!
LO still has no concept that nighttime is for sleeping (or maybe he doesn't care?). He's fed, dry, and laying in RnP just having a staring contest with me. I think he's waiting until I close my eyes so he can scream
@rachelnjacob I can tell you to prepare for the second day you leave beong worse because you know exactly how much you missed your baby the day before. However, it does get easier, especially with you leaving baby with your husband. We were lucky and found am excellent center for C and count them as family. Don't worry until you get there, because you can't change it. Its OK to be upset. Leave a little early the first day or two so you have a chance to cry before work and can get it all out and fix your makeup. Let yourself be upset and cry because its normal and natural to feel the way you are. During the days, try not to dwell on it and don't text hubby too much or you will find it more difficult to focus on work. Over time it becomes routine and is much easier. Hang in there!
We are 3 weeks today (Wednesday) and suddenly Tuesday she slept in long stretches. I've had her in bed with me tonight (i know, bad) and she slept another long stretch, almost 4 hours between pee diaper/eating session).
Previous days she ate constantly/wouldn't sleep. Not sure if I should be worried
@BMaidPlanner I'm sure you don't have to worry maybe she is just getting extra sleep to grow a bunch after eating so much yesterday. My little Aamie seems to do that same thing kinda.
DD has such horrible gas. At least, I guess it's gas. She will eat for well for a bit, then screams. She only seems relieved after she has spit up ridiculous amounts. I'm not sure if she has acid reflux or a food allergy, but I do not know what to do to help her.

I have similar issues. I'm not sure if its gas or reflux but I'm taking her to the Pediatrician Thursday morning.
@JulieSmiles maybe could you have issues with oversupply/forceful letdown? https://www.llli.org/faq/oversupply.html
My LO acts similar to yours, and I think I have oversupply. I've been block feeding since yesterday, hopefully it helps...

That really does sound like her. I pulled her off a few times this morning to see if that would help and it did a little. I have a call into my LC for advice now too. Thanks!

Thank you so much for posting this...I think this is exactly what we are dealing with as well. I read that and it was like a lightbulb for me.
LO woke up after 3 hours, the longest he's ever slept. I woke up to him making a bunch of noises, so I asked MH to turn the light on and he was quiet with his eyes shut. I waited a second and so I thought he went back to sleep but when we shut the light off he started making those damn noises again. lol! Little wanna be possum....
She wanted to cry/feed constantly tonight (hello 3 week birthday exactly) and I asked DH to sleep on the couch. I feel pretty bad about it, for some reason. I know his workday is gonna suck.
Up again. Hasn't been two hours. He was crying and clearly trying to poop a and he was having problems but then he stopped so I thought I was safe for diaper change... Nope... Started pouring out with one last push! All over my hand and his blanket and Jammie's! Poor DH woke up to go start a load of laundry...
Do any of you ladies use anything for constipation?
DH didn't burp S well before handing her off for my shift. I've been dealing with a miserable, fussy, spitting up baby for the past 2 hours. He also didn't put her diaper on well so when she peed it went all through her swaddle and all over both of us. I'm considering smothering him in his sleep.
not only does DH never hear either kid crying but when I get up to go make a bottle for B or lay DS1 back down I always come back to find DH sprawled out across the whole bed. just now I told him how much it sucks that he does that and he told me to give him a break. excuse me? give YOU a break? I have not once asked you to ever get up and help me I do everything, day and night. the least you could do is keep my pillow cold asshat.
I think I created monsters... V needs a pacifier to sleep now most the time and S needs the boob. It's 3 am and I'm so freaking tired. Getting 2 hrs of sleep at a time isn't enough.
Yeah, add my DH to the list of guys who can't hear baby fussing at night. It's okay, though, because I woke him up with my laughing at the dog, who is apparently terrified of baby farts. T let out a few good ones and the dog bolted out of his bed and has been hiding under ours for the last 20 minutes.
If DF takes anything to sleep, I make him sleep in the other room. I'm too scared he will grab the baby to comfort him and try to cosleep and not be aware enough. But the man is a horrible sleeper and needs to work so he ends up in the guest room a couple nights a week. 1) I hate sleeping without him. 2) it makes me angry to be on baby duty all day and all night and all day again.
DD was so fussy all night and I've barely slept. And we lost power last night for hours so the house was so hot and all of our food is bad. All I want is coffee but there's the milk is bad and I'm too tired to drive somewhere and get it. Going to be a long day. Happy 4th of July!
Are you ladies sure your SO doesn't hear LO crying or grunting? I'm convinced my DH just pretends to be asleep until I attend to the baby. ;-) On rough nights it really infuriates me. I'm EBF, so I know he can't feed LO, but sometimes LO is just struggling to fart/poop for an hour and he can pick up/bounce/soothe too!
Re: MOTN Midweek check-in 6/26
Sharts all the time too!
That makes me so happy! Thanks ladies! Last night sucked, this makes my morning!

I gave him gas drops but they don't seem to be helping much
