I can only share my personal experience: last year and 10lbs ago when I started TTC I was underweight. My OBGYN removed my IUD and during that appointment I told her we were going to start trying and asked if I should gain a little weight. She said that as long as I ovulate I will be fine and my weight will not negatively impact my fertility. I ended up gaining weight anyway because cookies, but at least in my case my OBGYN didn't think it would impact my fertility. Also my younger sister is super tiny and she gets pregnant easier than Michelle Duggard.
    Haha hilarious @ToryKate

  • @bakedolive - I will match your potential over share, by saying that normally tampons are my go to, but I hate how they get, waterlogged (I guess is the best way to say it) while swimming. I really hope I don't have similar ute vacuum experience!!

@KatzKiss - That was one of my concerns. I think I'm going to go with a diva, so I'm hoping they have like a size chart or something? I will have to look when I get home from work and figure that part out. Once I get one I'm probably going to give it a test run in the pool (before AF and vacation) to make sure it's the right fit!

@bibliothecary - Thanks for the info :) And no tears! I would certainly not consider you old!!

Conflicting information and probable stupid question!

Some places say having too thick a uterine lining (sometimes attributed to late ovulation) can be detrimental to implantation.  Yet I see pomegranate juice being touted as being helpful to fertility because it helps increase uterine lining.  Since I ovulate "late" in an otherwise regular cycle, should I avoid pomegranate juice?  (I love my Pom with coconut water.)
There really isn't any evidence to link Pom to a thicker lining. There's also no way to know if you're having a problem with a "too thick" lining. I would assume it's not a problem until proven otherwise. If you like the juice, drink it.

  • Here's a question.  I was reading in a past thread how REs want your TSH to be around 1-2 when TTC.  I had some bloodwork done a few weeks ago and mine was 2.59, which my doctor said was in the normal range.  But that was my regular dr who doesn't know we're TTC; I haven't been in since we've actually been TTC, she just monitors my bloodwork monthly to make sure my levels are normal.  (I went in earlier this year with some health issues so that's why she wants to monitor me.)

Anyway, while I know that it is a normal level, should I be concerned about getting it closer to 2 now that we're TTC?  Is there anything I can do on my end to lower it naturally without going on meds, since it's not technically high?  (Also this is only our second month TTC, so no reason to think I'm having any trouble yet. I'm just a worrier.)

  • @dazzld1‌ They do have a size chart. With the DC it's only two sizes and it is categorized more by age and past child births, but it can just vary by your anatomy as well. I would just pick the one that is advised and then bring some tampons for back up.

  • OK I'll bite --

I've never used OPK's before. I decided to use them for next cycle -- what do you guys usually do? I was thinking I'd a bunch of cheap ones & POAS morning/evening starting CD 10? When do you start having sex all the time? I was thinking as soon as I saw *any* line on the OPK we could start ED sex, then continue while the line darkens then lightens again, then stop? (correlating all this with my BBT too of course) Would that be ridiculous? I want to get this show on the road -- but I also am not up for a week+ of ED sex like we got stuck with this cycle.

And 2nd question -- Positioning after sex...I've been lying flat for ~5 min after sex... feel too stupid to do anything more, at least this first cycle. Do you guys do anything special? I read that ass-in-the-air is pointless since your cervix isn't at the "top" of the vagina, but I feel like standing up right away is not the greatest idea either...

  • Just thought of another newb question. I just finished up reading "The Impatient Woman's Guide to Getting Pregnant". Which was basically the newb post, minus the RE recommendation. This book recommends going to see an RE or OBGYN (can't remember which) after six months of perfectly timed sex. Perfectly to them includes charting, and using a fertility monitor. There was no caveat about being 35 or older.

Does the year rule apply to perfectly planned sex?
  • So my question: is there a certain time of day to check cm to get the best results? I'm sure this is a really noob question but I am no cm aficionado. Thank you ladies :)
  • I one ~ Sorry if this is a really dumb question...

I used to be a runner. Generally just 5ks, but a few 10ks and a few 1/2 marathons. I don't think I will ever have the desire to do the long distance thing again, but I love the stress release running a couple of miles a few times a week gives me. DH says he appreciates it as well.... Thanks DH >:P

Anyways! I have not been serious about running for about a year and a half and I haven't ran at all in 3 months. I really want to get back into it for the stress relief and the simple fact of being in better shape when I get pregnant and being able to stay active throughout the pregnancy, whenever that should happen.

My question is - I hear all the time about exercising you did before getting pregnant is generally safe to continue in pregnancy. But that starting up a new activity is not advised. I am currently in the TWW, and life will slow down enough (summer school ends) for me to start running again the week that I either get AF, or I get a BFP.

I am wondering how safe running again would be for me in either situation (BFP, or still TTC). I am not a sprinter, I run around an 11 1/2 minute mile and I generally do more of a run/walk thing. I would be starting back up with the couch to 5k program since I have been out of the game for so long.

I know this is probably a "I am the only one that knows my body thing" but I would like to get some input from you ladies :)

  • Ok, I'll go. Im having a hard time with charting. I thought I understood it and then I got to my own chart and I feel like I'm not doing something right. Maybe I'm overthinking it but it seems off. What helped you understand it and figures out when you ovulated?

Your chart seems normal to me so far. I don't think you O'ed yet. For me, I get a pretty obvious temp shift and then FF confirms it with CHs. You'll get the hang of it after a few cycles.

  • Ok, I've got one. When is it time to be concerned about a shorter LP? I've read that anything 9-10 days is too short for implantation. I've been off BC for 5 months and charting for 4 months with LP's as follows: 9, 11, 9, currently at 5dop so hoping for longer this time!

Am I being overly worried about this?
  • I have a weird question - in my lurking I've run across placenta encapsulation (specifically for preventing PPD). Is that a thing that people commonly do? Does it actually help with anything?

Just to clarify, I have no intentions of ever doing this, just curious about it.

When I first started charting I had a few 9 day LPs but they gradually lengthened to 11 days. WCIBN, I know there is a certain number of months you are supposed to have consecutive charted LPs under 10 days before seeking treatment. Can you help me remember how long? (Or tell me I'm an ass and don't know about this?)
I believe it's 3 or more consecutive cycles of less than 10 days.
Son: Jackson, 11/02/06, stillborn due to PPROM and IUGR. Over the next ten years we had 9 miscarriages from 8-14 weeks. On May 18, 2016 my daughter, Ridley, was born. We're OADNBC.
  • I am suuuuuuuper late to the party, but I still want to play!

How EXACTLY do the daily threads work? Do you post every day, a few days per week, once in each, or what? Is it all loosy-goosy and anything goes? I'm not sure why it's confusing me, but it is...

Right now I'm posting in waiting to do something because it's my first month off BCP and my body has geared up to O three times so far without actually doing anything. Ugh.

Also, thanks to whoever started calling your period shark week. Because AF is dumb, and it makes me feel like I'm living in the 1950s.

Ok, that makes sense. I have my annual OBGYN on 7/10 so I figure if I get another 9 day this month I'll ask about it. Anyone know what's done to lengthen these? I've read about people taking B complex and other random things (vitex, raspberry leaf tea) but I don't want to start anythign extra if it'll fix itself. Fingers crossed for 11 days this cycle!

You're not late to the party. These threads usually go on for days. You can post as often as you want. I think most that post do it everyday. It's a good place to get support and a good way to get to know people especially if you're new.

I feel like I'm wasting so many of them because they are always BFN. Sometimes I even know they are going to be a BFN and I still POAS... I guess just wishful thinking?! I don't let myself POAS until I'm late. At least, that is what I tell myself...

This first cycle off BCP has been nutso, and I definitely would have peed on all the sticks by now, except there's only one in the house. If I don't buy extras I can't pee on them ;)

Charting and temping will save you big money with pee sticks. I only test like a crazy person when I'm past my typical luteal phase length and my temps are higher than normal.
Also, I indulge my crazy by peeing on cheap sticks. Wondfos (from amazon), dollar tree, or walmart brand are good for this.  I save my FRERs for confirmation.

QFP means Quoted for Posterity or Quoted for Proof.  Sometimes you'll see QFT, which means Quoted for Truth.

I was using Ovia - but I found it was really getting my hopes up with the newsfeed it gives you (i.e. "some symptom" this could be an early sign of pregnancy!) and I would always get my hopes up and be let down when I got the BFN... this is just a personal experience.  I was told by other TTGPers that the fertile window is not nearly as accurate as FF... I am still monitoring it since I just started FF tracking last week so there is not enough data and it is not accurate at this point - it told me I just ovulated since I just started tracking and "Shark week" was due yesterday.
