I am annoyed my nephews b-day party is a pot luck. I usually bring something to most parties anyway but something about this "obligation" is bothering me. lol
The older I get the more I dislike pot lucks in general. I always bring some, thing anyway but I just don't like pot lucks. Something about come to a party but bring your own food bothers me.
A potluck kid's birthday party? No. It's the parent's responsibility to host the party, not mine. I would NEVER think to bring something to a kid's party.
I can't stand Melissa McArthey. She apparently plays the same role over and over and just isn't funny.
I loved her in Gilmore Girls but haven't liked her in anything since. It's disappointing because I love her in interviews and loved her on that show, but most movies she has been in make me cringe.
I had no idea people still did potlucks. I remember them at church growing up, but have never seen that term used since then! It's funny because I would never go to a party without offering to bring something, but the term potluck grates on me for some reason!
I think it's dumb (ignorant?) when the night time destination of a bachelorette party is a gay bar. I'd imagine the last thing gay men want when they go out is to be surrounded by a bunch of drunk girls with pink boas and penis necklaces on. Maybe it's fun for all, idk, but this is usually people from outside the city coming downtown, to Boystown (Chicago), and they're taking pictures and all "OMG! gay people!" Like it's some sort of tourist attraction.

Wow, that's incredibly offensive! (not your opinion, treating gay people like some tourist destination)
I don't get the soccer hype? I mean seriously no one in this country gives a fuck about soccer until the World Cup. It's just odd.
I disagree. We have huge Middle Eastern and Hispanic populations here; they've been going on and on and ON (MH and his best friend included) about the World Cup for months now. But do I think a "typical" American cares? Not that much.
Sorry but going on and talking about the World Cup is not even close to the hype or money that other sports in the US get year round. And you kind of made my point they are talking about the World Cup not professional soccer.

I've been to potluck housewarming parties, baby showers, and birthday parties. I find it so tacky.

Of course soccer doesn't get anywhere near the hype of American football or baseball or even hockey.
Why does it piss you off so that Americans only seem to get hyped about soccer until the World Cup? It's still a helluva lot more interest in soccer than it was 10 years ago.
Where did I say it pissed me off? I just think it's silly and people just jump on the bandwagon because it's "cool"

I interrupted your written word as sounding pissed.
Why is it silly though if it at least garners a person's interest in a sport they may not have previously watched?
But that's my point they aren't interested in the sport they are jumping on the it's cool to be a fan bandwagon. And yes I realize some people actually like watching soccer but not near as many as are watching the World Cup.
I get much more annoyed with people who jump on fad diets, like eating vegan or vegetarian, or raw food diet, or gluten-free, without researching and understanding what it entails.
It reminds me of the scene in the pilot of BBT where Penny tells Leonard she's a vegetarian but she loves fish. And steak.
It's basically the same thing to me all a fad to do because everyone else is.
Eh, I know plenty of people who don't watch or like football but watch the Superbowl. I see this as no different. It seems like any major televised sporting event draws a crowd even among people who aren't otherwise fans.
I agree about the potluck thing. If you are hosting an event that involves gifts like a shower/bday party/housewarming you should NOT ask people to bring anything at all. If they offer a bottle of wine is fine.
It's okay to potluck for holidays and friend/family BBQ's. The only exception is the Superbowl, lol. You can all bring stuff for that. But still the host should provide the main meat/alcohol/drinks.

Yep no different and still just as odd to me. Jumping on the bandwagon because it's cool. Unless you watch the Super Bowl for the commercials.
My husband might be the only American who cares about soccer all the time. He watches every soccer game ever on (Manchester, etc). I could give two flips about soccer, but the man is a major fan. The World Cup is like the greatest thing ever to him. (Personally, I am in the other room streaming the Good Wife. Why have I never watched that? Great show).

That makes sense. I don't usually watch the Superbowl at all, but will watch half time if I know it's someone good and I remember. DH usually looks up the score the next morning so he doesn't look like an ass not knowing who won when he gets to work lol! We don't even pretend beyond that.
I hate when people back into parking spots. They are usually terrible at it and spend 5 minutes going in and out. Why? So you can be the first person out of the parking lot?
yes it drives me crazy and takes longer to back in than out. I know it is supposed to be safer but really just pay attention and you will be fine.

I agree, and may I add I hate when people pull through in an angled parking lot when each row is one way. When they leave they're going the wrong way!

I find this aggravating too. At DHs work, they HAVE to back into their parking space or they get written up. He despises it. Safety first
Oh, well I guess this is an UO - I love backing into parking spaces! And pulling through. So much easier! Unless I'm at the grocery store and need to have easy access to load up the trunk...

A few of my siblings and several of my nephews follow soccer too. Not just for the world cup. I'm not a fan. And I think the real reason many people jump on the bandwagon is because it's an excuse to go out and drink!

I can beat all- I went to a potluck wedding once. Let that sink in. Potluck wedding.
I'm team AG here--fairweather fans are just the worst. I could imagine it annoys athletes too--like hey, i only care about you if you're doing well.
I bet not. Teams like to have fans, who cares why.
I've never really understood the annoyance with fair-weather fans. I've been a Seahawks fan my whole life, and you'd better believe that within the last year their fanbase has grown HUGE, especially around the Superbowl. Am I mad that people are supporting my team because they haven't ALWAYS supported them. No. Why would it bother me?
I haven't watched the World Cup at all, but I imagine it's more interesting than any other soccer match. So why would it be annoying or weird for lots of people to watch it even though they don't tune in the rest of the time? I don't get it.

how did I not know this?
I agree with pot lucks being weird for a birthday party.
My uo: i think when a cashier hands you charge the coins should be placed first then the bills on top. The other way is just so wrong.
