About mid August when I'm cleared for physical activity I'm hoping to be able to get up on water skis. It's really not very physically demanding except on the arms so I should be ok...right?
Holy heck. I just want to adjust to life. Anything I do past this is a freaking bonus.
Groceries (not delivered)... bonus Showering...bonus DD acting totally normal like a new baby never happened...bonus DH and I not stressing out....bonus Doing any activity with two kids by myself...goal
1. Drink Wine 2. Successfully nurse baby. 3. Hopefully recover easily from RCS bc DH does not clean or cook. 4. Hopefully keep DD1 from saying I'm booooooooorrrrrreeeeeedddddd every 10 minutes. 5. Shower 6. Drink beer 7. Not murder MIL for dropping by, or saying everything baby does is just like DH, or any reason. Or at least do not get caught or manage plausible post partum insanity defense. 8. Drink more wine.
I want to simply survive the summer. As a FTM that feels completely and utterly clueless (no matter how much I try and educate myself), I feel like that's the only pressure I can put on myself. Anything beyond that will be a HUGE plus. I just want to enjoy my time with my baby and husband before getting thrust back into another chaotic school year. I really can't focus on anything beyond that!

Honestly, no one is ever ready and I feel like if you don't doubt yourself at least once a day, you're doing something wrong. Our older daughter is 7 and a half and I seriously have days where I cry because I worry I'm screwing up. Try your best, know that you're not alone. Your bumpies will still be here for you, trust your pediatrician, lean on your husband, trust your gut above all. You will be fine.
Ooh, I love the idea of this post. I've already been thinking about post baby with so much couch time to do so when normally I can't stand couch time.
*Sooooooo looking forward to maternity leave!! Can't wait to sleep in long mornings with LO, kayak if we want, visit the zoo, have lunch with friends, and attend as many baby classes (baby wearing, cloth diapering, essential oils, newborn care, etc) as I want without having to think about skipping out on work if I want to do so.
*Good friends wedding I'm a bridesmaid on 7/18, either five days before my guess date of 7/23 or as a leaking, nursing momma if he's early - either way my dress will fit awesome as it's perfect for big boobs or big belly, either one
*My nephews wedding, this one would be crossing fingers August 2nd a few weeks after LO is born otherwise I'd be going nuts. I've already bought his adorable onesie with grey chevron suspenders and turquoise bow tie from etsy and a grey newsboy cap from BRU for the wedding. Now just need shoes that are small enough.
*I'd love to take a trip to Washington in September or October with our other two DSs to visit my grandma who's going to be going thru chemo shortly. Depends on if we can find a weekend where the boys won't be skipping out on too much at school. My DSs have never been to her place in Washington and I'd like for them to have the chance to visit it and her. And for LO to see her! Will likely babywear in the airport due to advice from another Bump thread.
*Wake surfing. We have free wake surfing days once a month and I have missed going this summer SO much!! Likely would've gone huge and prego any way, but DH won't let me. Probably wise.
*Cousins trip in November or possibly earlier to same grandma with LO.
*Getting DS1 and DS2 to various events prepping for high school and middle school. Yay for maternity leave so I don't actually have to juggle my work schedule through their crazy August!
*Family trip home to Cali in December or February.
Jealous of @mamakiss day trips to my hometown!! OP, love the swan boat idea - crossing fingers you get some adorable pictures of that! Think we may have swan boats here. May check into that specifically for the picture reason . Although would have to bring DH along to do the pedaling - if it's anything like the paddle boats that sounds exhausting since ours is more a very slow moving river than a pond.
I'm hoping to go out for walks as soon as I'm able. I hate getting cooped up in the house for too long.
Want to enjoy these last few months living in England before we move back to the States - hopefully taking walks around the cute towns and enjoying the scenery... and scones and cakes, while also trying to get this baby weight off, while trying not to have a meltdown about moving overseas with a baby!
Looking forward to my parents' visit in August!
Lol @Pinksundrops I could be wrong since I'm just a clueless FTM, but I am reasonably sure that newborns don't really grasp the concept of sleeping in....

I'm pretty sure she meant being able to go back to sleep after feedings instead of having to get up and go to work. DS would wake up at 5:30am, we'd be up for an hour and then go back to sleep for a couple... then get another nap at 930. It was glorious
I'm hoping to take full advantage of being home for 12 weeks and then not traveling for 12 after that. I'll take the first month to heal (barring no c-section), but then I'd like to: take zoo trips (we're members and it's close), take Spanish lessons with DS (researching now), and just be able to play with him. I'm such a dud because I work so much.
Then he's in school full time after labor day, so I'll concentrate on napping and working out like a crazy person before I have to go back to work again and not have time for anything
Oh, I need to add swim lessons for DS1 to my list. Thanks for reminding me.
To the bolded - I feel like this all the time. I'm hoping to get in some good experiences with him this summer.
Did you have to negotiate the no travel for 12 weeks after your leave, or is that standard? My company is pretty generous about leave, but is miserable at on-boarding people who are coming back "off the beach". I think it is because in the consulting world you are expected to be well-rested after a break between engagements. But maternity leave just doesn't fit into that model.
About mid August when I'm cleared for physical activity I'm hoping to be able to get up on water skis. It's really not very physically demanding except on the arms so I should be ok...right?
I think you are severely underestimating the role of your core muscles (aka abs) in water skiing. I wish you luck, though!
I used to have ab muscles...sigh.

1. Give birth before state baseball playoffs so I will know my hubby will not be 2-4 hours away. 2. Not kill my toddler 3. Breast feeding to work out this time. 4. After I am ready to venture out, go move to my new bigger classroom(!!!!) and start planning a new grade level for a sub( booooo)
After we get to August I will decide if my mom taking a month off to be with us was a good idea or not. We are really close but good lord......
@Huahine - it's not policy, but we are primarily a Three season business...Once October rolls around, it's really our slow season (and people start disappearing through the holidays), so I'm hoping that I can put off travel at least Until the new year.
I haven't really spoken to my boss about it...I should probably do that at some point. I just really don't see it being much of an issue, since most of our major operations out west/central will be closed and the eastern operations can be a day trip for the most part if I really hussle.
Consulting was a whole different ballgame - i hated the fight to stay billable, and getting on a new project after being on a long one (or God forbid if I had been seconded to a client) was always a nightmare for me. I hope you are able to re acclimate quickly!
It took 2 solid months to leave my house in the winter (besides ob appts) with my first- after a ecs and likely PPD. So merely getting out in the yard is my plan- that is after sufficient recovery, which i didn't take enough of last time. My parents gave my son a swing/play ground set outside, psyched I don't have to find it in me to get to a play ground. I'd like to be able to function and get back to "myself" and our home to a new normal with a little one...cooking, and cleaning, not killing anyone, figuring out more of the ongoing medical issues for my son and myself. Merely getting everything back under control would really satisfy my bucket.

Okay, I was wondering about that too. Your explanation makes sense. I was thinking the baby in my belly already has no concept of sleeping in!
I will admit to having had lots of things on my maternity leave bucket list this Summer, from small projects around the house to day trips around New England.
Then, at my last OB appointment the nurse was telling me about the peri bottle and how to use it because some days that will be the extent of my personal hygiene regimen.

Yes, the going back to sleep and not having to get up to go to work .
1) Live. 2) Keep DS & Newborn alive & hopefully smelling pretty good. 3) Have enough Red Bull in my fridge for maternity leave. 4) Shower every day. 5) Smell my newborn as much as possible bc dang they are so precious! 6) pray I don't ever have to go back to work & can be a SAHM finally. 7) Take DS to the splash pad. 8) Not need depression meds for PPD. 9) Loving DS & my rainbow baby as much as I possibly can.
Play outside with children in the pool I will buy Play outside with children on swing set I will buy Keep house clean and chores done Put together baby books Take children fishing 10 hour trip to visit my siblings Finish several knitting projects Lose the baby weight
In reality: Survive till next Thursday evening when DH is off for 6 days. (He works nights and went back Wed. so basically he sleeps and works till next Thursday). Prioritize which crying child to attend to first Feed crying children Not lift over 10 pounds, oops too late
