Another FFTC - I know this is 2-3 years off for us still but I am now worried about finding summer care for DD once she's in Kindergarten and out of school for the summer. I'm a working mom. I know millions of other WM's handle this but damn....I am daunted by the task of having to piece together summer camps / hire a summer sitter who I trust enough to drive my child around to activities and basically thinking "What do I do for 2.5 months of break????"

I guess I always need something to worry about. :(

OMG I've been in a spiral about before school/after school care/summer camps for like, a year and he doesn't even start K until a year from September.  But really, it's daunting especially when you have another kid who has to go someplace different and you're the only person who does pick up/drop offs.  I figure we always take a vacation week, DH can take another and I can take another.  ILs can come down or take him for a week so that's a month lol  And for the first summer after K I think I can still send him to the daycare for the summer but after that I feel like he'll be too old and will need to be with kids his own age.

I think that there is too much sex and nakedness in a lot of shows that I otherwise enjoy, to the point that it makes me not want to watch them.

I guess that is some of their appeal and maybe I'm turning into a prude in my old age, but I just feel like it is over the top and starts to distract from the other parts of the story.

    I completely agree with this.

The number one problem I see in here is that some of you listen to morning radio shows. Those hosts are typically the least funny, most obnoxious people I've ever encountered.

    I like Elvis Duran

I like Elvis Duran too.... and i think he has a good group with him.  They used to be syndicated in ATL but they took them off the air.  I had all teh sadz.  I grew up listening to Elvis and Elliot, then the Z Morning Zoo, then the Elvis Duran Show... I wish they were still down here.

@HilarityEnsued - I was sad when Elvis Duran got taken out of ATL too. Scotty and Riley are not as good, sorry. Maybe it was a budget thing? Or Elvis was too progressive and raunchy for the south?
  • The GoT books didn't have Ros.  There was no Ros character.

They put her in the show for no other reason than to show her vagina and boobs on the regular.

    UNNECESSARY.

This is the kind of thing I'm talking about.

And I'm not saying that I hate seeing ALL sex and there are shows where I wish they would have more sex.

I stopped watching Game of Thrones for a while because I just felt like there was so much more to the story (having read the books) that they were leaving out in order to make room for more sex.

  • Unnecessary  boobs and vagina remind me of America's Got Talent and the opera singer/body builder.  She ends up undressing while she is singing.  I'm not disputing the fact her body is fit but the disrobing was a distraction from her voice and it was confusing.

Google Chrome is pissing me right off by constantly implying that "amongst" is not a fucking word.  IT'S A FUCKING WORD CHROME.

Ha ha, this says "amongst" is pretentious:

I don't know why we wouldn't just eliminate it and agree that "among" is the proper word. Same with "irregardless" vs. "regardless."

I'm not sure this is the same thing, though?  Because I think among and amongst are both actual words, whereas irregardless is not a word.

This is basically why I gave up after 6 episodes. I tried so hard to like it because it's such a big deal show, but I couldn't get past the shitty dialogue that basically served to set up another soft core scene.

I feel like had AMC or FX picked it up instead of HBO it still would have been able to be sexy and gory but with a better focus on plot and story.

As far as the nudity, etc goes - I can handle some if it's not IN YOUR FACE for like, no discernible reason, or actually contributes to the story. But I don't want the plot or story to be overshadowed by it...otherwise I will simply watch a porn - all nudity and no plot required.
This is how I feel about True Blood.  I was really into it at first but it started to turn into "who is Sookie fucking now?" So, I agree.  Sex in shows is part of the entertainment but when it takes away from the plot it's not good.

    YES.

The books don't have nearly as much sex as the show.

I mean, really, when you got to the part in the show when Theon starts fingerbanging his sister, you're all "Oh." instead of "OMFG EWWWW." like you are when you read the books because by that time you're desensitized to the sex.

Seconded ... I didnt get past episode one .. even though I read some of the books. Im like OK and we are already at the oral sex. Thanks for the set up there. I mean my husband usually gives me a minute or two before leaping straight to the oral sex.

I mean if I wanna watch porn thats easy, but the few True Blood episodes Ive watced seemed to be glorified soft core with bits of plot.

I don't agree with the first point at all.  I think the books have more gratuitous gore, violence and sex (many scenes take place in brothels... what do you think is happening in the backgrounds even if GRRM isn't writing it all out) than the show, but to the second bolded point, you are so desensitized to it, it becomes something you don't even notice.

The books are so mother fucking wordy and plot-heavy that tons of shit gets lost.  Honestly... I want to junk-punch GRRM many times.  The fourth GoT book is probably one of the worst books written in modern times.  Dude's editor needs to be slapped.

    /rant
There are only a handful of times, in my recollection, when GRRM actually describes the sex.  Most of the time it's like "Ok, these people are having sex now." or someone goes to a brothel.  It's almost done in passing.  There's a lot of nudity discussed, but the sex scenes aren't nearly as prevalent.

The one time I can think of that it was really unnecessary was Dany in the 4th or 5th book.  That was just basically girl-on-girl porn.

I really think GRRM wanted the show on HBO so he could add even more sex than there was in the books.

Yes! I've skipped entire pages because my brain just gets really fucking tired. So many words. Get to the damn point GRRM!

ETA I've been thinking about re-reading the series, but then I remember all the words and I'm like nope. It's such a good story, I just wish some of it were a bit more streamlined.

  • I think I may have an UO. I don't think homeschooling is as weird as I used to or a bad idea really. I can 100% understand why a person wouldn't want to entrust their child to the public school system eight hours a day. I don't really think private school is much better. It seems like all I ever hear anymore is about teachers abusing kids, doing drugs with them, sexually assaulting them, etc. I don't think it's the norm but it's too common for my liking. Plus, your kid isn't even safe at school anymore. My youngest brother and his GF want to and I don't blame them. On top of the shit I listed above, he has a pretty shit experience as far as schools go to draw from.
I don't care if people homeschool as long as they're qualified to teach or have done a lot of research and preparations.

One lady I know started homeschooling her daughter because she was afraid her daughter's self-esteem would go down and she would be teased because she started "developing" before her friends.  This woman refused to do any sort of preparation and when she decided to send her daughter back to public school, the daughter had to drop back a year because she couldn't pass any of the grade-level classes.
