I'm not getting an ultrasound either, but if my MW suspected twins she would order one. So far, I'm measuring 2 weeks ahead, and she assured me it's just one in there. (some people measure big just because of excess fluid, another reason to maybe get checked out) My family and DH's family both have a history of ginormous babies...not that that is a 100% indicator, but I won't be shocked if it's just one 10 pounder in there. Also, at this point it's really easy to hear baby's/babies' heartbeat on the doppler (which is a form of ultrasound BTW) and on the fetuscope.

So you're basing measurements of growth just on your belly measurements? I just cant comprehend why anyone wouldn't have an ultrasound to see if you or baby has something life threatening. I can't comprehend or support it. Sorry.
The amount of stupid in this thread just increased. Cheese and crackers, ultrasound is NOT the devil. I seriously don't understand these people who risk it all by avoiding them.
Agreed. Figuratively, any risks are 10 times more without an ultrasound as far as I'm concerned. Previa? Defects? You'll take the risk of something like this happening, but you wont take the "risks" (let me put that in quotes, because I think its a joke that anyone thinks one ultrasound will harm their baby) of a potentially life saving scan at a hospital. FFS. Now I'm getting myself all frustrated. I need a donut.

I'll take any excuse to eat a doughnut. In this case TWINS! So I ate two.
Gah, a fetal Doppler is not a magic tool. Just stop already with that. Once they discovered I was pregnant with twins my IVF, OB, and MFM stopped using just a Doppler to check heartbeats. They all agree that it is not suggested to use just that to reliably check BOTH babies. Babies move. You could be reading their heart beat down low one second and up high another.
In my case both my babies like to lay right on top of each other. They have a hard time getting heartbeats with a U/S!
And WTF you will use a Doppler but not get a U/s. Please go away.

Is she also able to tell there's nothing wrong with your baby based off how you look from the outside? I sure hope so because otherwise you're doing yourself and your baby a HUGE disservice.
This thread is just idiotic.
Maybe she has ute goggles, I heard those are safer than ultrasound

Must be the ute goggles. Feeling from the outside certainly can gaurentee you won't die from previa during your home birth with nothing on hand to help when you do start hemorrhaging. Oh and it can totally gaurentee your baby doesn't have any health issues such that having a special team at the birth would be life saving. Why aren't we all just getting our care from someone psychic?
she's probably confirmed with her pastor that all of that will be ok when the time comes. *need my eye roll smiley on mobile..any takers to help me out here?*

My insurance won't cover psychics. I blame Obama.

I know just the person--meet my new OB:
A psychic?! You ladies are crazy, all my OB appointments are done with tarot card readings.

Me: 37, DH: 42 Married March 22, 2003 TTC since early 2006, Fertility treatments since 02/2013 First Pregnancy with Twins EDD 10.24.2014
I would also like to know the reason behind no u/s. I like to know different points of view so I am curious.
I know someone who was pregnant about 20 years ago and they didn't have nearly the advanced u/s technology back then so it wasn't used as much as it is now. Her dr felt her stomach from the outside and said she was having a really large baby and insisted they deliver early. She delivered a 6lb baby!
When I was pregnant with my first they did an u/s to check on the baby at the end of my pregnancy and discovered I had very little amniotic fluid left. Apparently it was leaking and my body just absorbed it. I had to be admitted and induced right away so I could have the baby. Without u/s we wouldn't have known I needed to deliver right then.
I am 23 weeks pregnant with twins and the only way I know is because of the ultrasounds. I am gaining weight slower with this pregnancy than with my last. I will say my aches and pains started earlier, but that could also be attributed to this being my second pregnancy. You really need to have an ultrasound if you have any reason to suspect that it is twins. My twins share a placenta so I get an ultrasound every other week to make sure they are both growing well. When twins share a placenta there is a very real concern that one twin will take all the nutrients and the other twin will stop growing. Serious medical intervention is involved if this happens, and babies could die if nothing is done.
