And agreed about the word "hate"...I don't hate many people or things.

I dont know if that makes me feel better. So, me and my family are in a small group with carbs and ikea?
Actually, that sounds like my personal idea of heaven....
LOL. NO! It was a joke...and apparently, not a very good one.
Re: jr's etc.
I don't have anything against naming a child a Jr (DS is not technically a Jr, but he is named after my dad who is alive and well) but I have to say, I sort of feel bad because I feel like if we have another son his name will never live up to or have the same significance as DS name (to me at least). Not that I regret naming DS after my dad, I love his name... Just a thought, I hope this makes sense and doesn't come off ass-ish! Curious if anyone who has a Jr has ever thought about it this way, maybe I am just a weirdo.
I dislike Juniors when the Senior is still living and especially when in the same home. I mean, it's not that hard to come up with an original name. Then you don't have to make up a nickname, use a middle name, or call it "baby" to differentiate your child from your spouse.
DH is a Jr, so he goes by his middle name but his "real" name is on all legal documents. Every time he gets a check made out to "Ben" the bank won't cash it because they think he's "Jeff." We also get his dad's medical bills and random other mail by the USPS who thinks they should forward it to us. PITA! Why didn't my ILs just name him his middle name?
I didnt want to name Joey after his dad (who is named after his dad, who is named after his dad) but DH wanted a namesake. They do have different middles names. DH is Joseph Michael, DS is Joseph Ryan. I wanted to do Ryan Joseph but that was a no-go. I really didnt have a choice!
That seems narcissistic to me. But I can agree to disagree. Having to deal with all the confusion is enough of a downside for me.
Let me explain that. I have a friend that is a 5th, just had a son that is the 6th. Growing up he was always being compared to his grandpa and dad who were not decent men. Anytime he did something a little naughty people compared him to the 3rd and 4th of that name and it seems like he is constantly walking in their shadows.
Could be that I grew up in a very small town and all of those generations have lived there. I'm sure it wouldn't be like that in a bigger city.
This happens with siblings too so I think it's just a small town thing.
I think it's dumb to refer to your baby as "the baby"- as in "I need to put the baby down for a nap." Your kid is around 8 months old and I'm pretty sure you've named them by now.
Im so guilty of this DH and I say "the baby" or "my baby" all the time "Hows my baby doing?" etc..
Im really in a mind fuck with the @Bkeane revelation of period/space usage. I won't be getting on board with this one space shit.
I think the drinking age in this country is too high. I had to confiscate this chicks ID last night (it was a good fake too) I think 21 is too high. Being able to vote but not drink, seems ass backwards.
Dumb ass drunks are dumb ass drunks no matter the age. I've seen minors handle their alcohol better than grown adults. I always used to tell DH (when he was in the Marine Corps and underage) that it was sad that they can expect him to fight for his country and possibly die but they can't let him have a beer.
I have no real reason why I think this, besides maybe the fact that every guy I know drives one, but I think guys should drive trucks. (As their vehicle, not like the occupation) I understand having a car for gas mileage purposes but aside from that.
lol, why?
ETA: my DH rides his bicycle.
I really have no idea. Maybe cause trucks seems "manly-er?" Haha I told you I have no real reason why I think this!
My husband drives a Civic. Is that manly enough for you?
Dh takes the T (subway for non-Massholes). I wonder how girly that makes him :-??
Oh and @baconface reminded me why I go to IKEA even though I don't like it- the food. Their chocolate moose is the balls!
Can't bold on mobile, but I just keep picturing a chocolate moose standing in Ikea haha
I do not get at all why people refuse or ignoring talking to their 10 year olds about sex. I have a couple co-workers and friends with kids that age and NONE of them have had sex talks. Despite all of them having 'boyfriend/girlfriends'. I realize they are still young, but people are having sex at like 12 these days and I just don't get why you would bury your head in the sand about something like that.
Wait, is this name business another Mommy War? Nobody mentioned it yesterday. Where is @Weljadraak and who gets the points for naming this one?
I mentioned it in the mommy wars thread.
Juniors specifically? I remember something about boys names on girls and something else about names. Anyway, feel free to take an extra point, if @Weljadraak approves.

I knew a girl who was the middle child. Her older brother was named after their father (a III, I think) and her younger sister was named after their mother. She kind of had a complex about being skipped over in the name game and being the only one not named after their parents. (She was named after her grandmother).

Another T taking hubby here. I think my DH and @wedding06's DH could very well take the exact same train. We live at opposite ends of the same T line.
We are taking a vacation to Dallas specifically to go to ikea this weekend. First overnight trip without our kids!! My husband sent me a text message earlier this week that said "four days 'til Ikea!!"
You would hate our family
new weekend plans- stalk ikea
------
We will be easy to find. For the first hour, my husband will have the largest plate of meatballs that he can order. I will be smiling from ear to ear as I eat Swedish food and subject him to a million stories (all of which he has heard before) of when I lived in Sweden. He will nod and laugh at the appropriate points, his boredom assuaged by his large pile of meat, gravy and potatoes.
Then, we will diligently walk through the aisles, me translating every Swedish word/phrase possible (not many chances to speak a language only spoken by 9 million people worldwide--8.5 million of those people living in Sweden.). We will try to imagine our house with various pieces of furniture, only to eventually realize that what we really love about the display rooms is their beautiful lack of any clutter--so our rooms with two small children will never compare. Ever.
After that, we will go to central market and buy. All. The. Things. We have shopping lists from various famy members and friends for CM goodies and have nothing like that place in our store.
Then, we will visit penzey's spices, eat Mexican at Mi Cocina, and then head back home. It will be a beautiful 24 hours! Yay for tomorrow!

@sooner1981 , that sounds like a great day! We also have to make Ikea an all day trip. And I love CM! But I am sad for you that it appears that you have to make a special trip for that, too. My mom and I like to go and get lunch there and sit outside just for funsies. Their food is the best! I plan to take a trip today, actually

i thought she took one digital (pregnant), and 2...non digital ones (not)...but she was barely late, so we said those tests were sensitive enough, since it's nearly impossible to get a false positive, especially on a digital.......and i think she accepted the fact she was pregnant after that....

Yes I do remember that! Just didn't know if she f/u with her OB and let us know. I too am a little surprised more people aren't pg yet. Maybe more will roll in this summer.

I am ALWAYS looking for Mexican food recommendations! We are actually visiting my family in Oklahoma and heading down to Dallas while my parents watch our kids, so I don't know many new places in Dallas, just the old standbys.
@sooner1981 I think they have 7 different dipping sauces (all free except Queso), but I recommended the Queso compuesto (it has beef, guacamole, pico de gallo in it). The tortillas are made onsite. Fairly inexpensive and very casual. I love the green chile rice and the green chile chicken enchiladas. You'll be 6 miles from one when you're at IKEA. It originated in Austin, but now they are all over the US--even Soonerville in Norman. Www.chuys.com
There are a few other places around there that are good, too.
La Hacienda Ranch - Mexican meets steakhouse. More upscale.
Cantina Laredo- more upscale, Tex-Mex
Blue Goose Cantina - I've heard they have good margaritas. I don't drink tequila, but thought I'd throw it out there.

This all sounds amazing. You are the best Dallas travel agent ever! I now want to stay at least 4 days, so we can try all these places . Will let you know on Monday where we went! Thanks again!
@sooner1981 La Hacienda Ranch is delicious and right up Preston! I've never been to Chuy's. I prefer Mi Cocina to Cantina Laredo. One of my faves is Mattito's. There's one up the Tollway in North Frisco. I haven't been to the one in Frisco but I love the other 2 locations. I LOVE Mexican food- yum yum!!
I've heard Mattito's is good @crunchymama11 , but I've never eaten there, so I didn't add it to my list.
Here's some UOs, not necessarily for THIS group. You ladies seem to be pretty intelligent. But people in general fascinate the fuck out of me. 1) when people tell me "don't worry, you will be pregnant in no time. Most couples who adopts end up pregnant." Um...what? It always embarrasses me. I never made our fertility issues known to anyone except to a few of my closest friends (I'm from a very small gossipy town. I don't want that info out there.) I hear this ALL THE TIME, so some people obviously don't think it's inappropriate. 2) when people that know DS is adopted tell me that he looks like me or DH...like it's some kind of consulation prize. He looks nothing like either one of us. "He looks like he could be yours!" Well he is mine. 3) when people refer to his birth parents as his "real mom" or "real dad". Bitches, I am his real mom. Like I said, these are not necessarily UO to this board, but IRL I hear this shit all the time. Whew, I feel better.

I would be terribly offended by this too! People are such inconsiderate jerks, you are definitely his "real Mom"! I can't believe people say these things to you, it doesn't matter he is adopted he is still YOUR son. Ugh you should start punching people! Lol!
@edaire That is crazy and truly shows the ignorance people have! He most certainly is your "real" child. Some people who know that my youngest brother is my "half brother" will constantly refer to him as that and I always correct them by saying "he's my brother." It's so irritating!!
Off topic a bit, is the adoption open or closed? Just wondering how it varies from state to state.
@Doveyluvr I'm not a fan of Joe T's. I had it once when I was pregnant and it may have been the fact that it was a Sunday afternoon and 100 degrees outside with a long wait, but I just don't member the food being fabulous. I may give it another try since we live close to there now. @edaire I understand your frustration. I've raised my stepson since he was 5, went to every school function, every doctor appointment, etc, and his "bio mom" didn't. The minute we told people I was pregnant, some said it would be different now that I had my own child. Nope it won't be. And it isn't different. It irritates me. And it came from dh's stepmom the most. Now I know how she really feels about DH. People don't know when to keep their mouth shut.
