Small town living isn't all it's cracked up to be. Unless you are from that town (and all your grandparents, grandparents were too), people don't really accept you. They will be nice to you so you can do something for them, but most are busy judging you behind your back and passing along incorrect info about you. The town I just moved from ran the black cop out of town. That irritated me. The rumors about us seem to have made it around in just 3 months.

I feel like you are describing the town we currently live in!!!

    ----

I couldn't lovetit your post because it sucks! I thought it was just some people, but found out it was the people who were always the nicest to our faces. I made a bit of a scene when one lady didn't speak to us at our sons graduation, but she decided to wave after she heard me say her name to my husband. Yeah, I'm good without the fake hello.

I think it's dumb to refer to your baby as "the baby"- as in "I need to put the baby down for a nap." Your kid is around 8 months old and I'm pretty sure you've named them by now.
It actually took us an embarrassingly long time to call the baby by his actual name. Now, we call the monitor "the baby."

I think some people over-snack (it's a word, just go with it) their toddlers. It's one thing if they have a regular snack time, but I think lots of parents give their kids snacks to keep them entertained and quiet. I see so many kids that seem to have a Baggie of Cheerios permanently glued to their hands.
My kid grazes. So, while it might appear that she's snacking, it's probably the breakfast she didn't finish. Or the lunch she took two bites of. I LITrally carry her leftovers in my diaper bag and feed them to her an hour later when she decides she's hungry again.

    My 7yo STILL does this.

Agree with @dknight413‌ about some of the crazy toys. Way over stimulating.

My dad bought my nephews a houseful of toys and now that they are older, his house is like a toy graveyard. It's effing freaky to walk past a toy chest and hear a toy play some song or heaven forbid TALK at you.

Im so guilty of this DH and I say "the baby" or "my baby" all the time "Hows my baby doing?" etc..

Im really in a mind fuck with the @Bkeane revelation of period/space usage.  I won't be getting on board with this one space shit.

I think the drinking age in this country is too high.  I had to confiscate this chicks ID last night (it was a good fake too) I think 21 is too high.  Being able to vote but not drink, seems ass backwards.

I can see where you're coming from but I disagree. There are so many irresponsible people out there & I think it would cause way more problems if the drinking age was lowered. At least in MI, there are so many accidents due to drinking & driving, and so many are underage. I realize ppl will make stupid decisions regardless of age but I think having it at 21 is a way to hopefully allow the maturity (not that all 21 yr olds, or even older ppl, are mature) of the person to play a factor. If that makes sense..

This!! Joey is name after his dad.. Joey. It gets so confusing!! And I refuse to call DH "Joe" bc that's his dad's name and his dad is such a jerk sometimes!

I dislike Juniors when the Senior is still living and especially when in the same home.  I mean, it's not that hard to come up with an original name.  Then you don't have to make up a nickname, use a middle name, or call it "baby" to differentiate your child from your spouse.

DH is a Jr, so he goes by his middle name but his "real" name is on all legal documents.  Every time he gets a check made out to "Ben" the bank won't cash it because they think he's "Jeff."  We also get his dad's medical bills and random other mail by the USPS who thinks they should forward it to us.  PITA!  Why didn't my ILs just name him his middle name?
I didnt want to name Joey after his dad (who is named after his dad, who is named after his dad) but DH wanted a namesake. They do have different middles names. DH is Joseph Michael, DS is Joseph Ryan. I wanted to do Ryan Joseph but that was a no-go. I really didnt have a choice!

It's your child. You definitely had a choice. I filled out the birth certificate. DH didn't even have to sign it. I understand wanting to honor him/his family, but I would've negotiated and fought that. Thankfully, we had a girl, and while I honored my deceased mother, dd does not have one of my mother's names.

In our family we have 1st, 2nd, 3rd they are all Albert Johns. So we called my Uncle and his son. Big Al and Little Al. Sometimes Little Al went by Bert too. It's still incredibly confusing, and I just couldn't do it. I'm curious if Little Al will have a 4th if he ever has a son.

@afolske106 no worries about the Joey confusion! In about 6 months your H will only be known as "daddy" (or dad/papa/whatever it is in your house).

Mother of a "the third" checking in! The real UO here is that I love having my son named after my husband. I feel like the "naming your child after yourself is soooo narcissistic/selfish/other synonym" is one of our more played out popular opinions.

True story @NRyan55‌! And knowing my DH, when I refer to him as "daddy" he will turn it in to something sexual on my part. Lol

My husband is Brad and his dad is Brad, but they have different middle names, so technically not the same, but still a problem! Paperwork and taxes are mixed up all the time, and family events are weird. His dad is "big Brad" and hubs is "little Brad"...he's 30 freaking years old.

. It even went so far as instead of just forwarding mail, USPS took it upon themselves to let BCBS, directv, time warner cable, etc of the address change too and automatically changed their billing address in their systems. FIL would call customer service and change it back and then it would change it again. It was HORRIBLE. They ended up having to manually sort our mail for months.

There's something about being a government employee that makes me want to defend other government employees, so this might be my uo for today. I feel like USPS *should* take it upon themselves to notify businesses of your change in address. It has to be more expensive/time consuming/labor intensive/whatever to forward mail than to have it directed properly in the first place. USPS isn't exactly flush and I'm sure it saves them money in the long run if it helps expedite an address change. I feel like your situation going all fubar is the fault of the businesses who went ahead and updated the address without contacting the customer to make sure it was accurate. My agency gets address change notifications all the time from USPS but we wouldn't dare change an address without getting confirmation from the client.
