  • For some reason unbeknownst to me, thinking of starting pumping intimidates the crap out of me. I'm a grown up intelligent woman, but for some reason figuring out sterilization and a schedule and how to pump without hurting my supply or short changing my kid (I just want to pump for a stash, not to supplement feedings) has me at loose ends. I need to pull it together.

I just pump for a stash, too. I solved the schedule problem by not having one. I just pump when my boobs are uncomfortable and DS doesn't seem hungry, which usually ends up being after a morning feeding. Now that I am getting back to running, I pump before I go so they are not so big and so I won't leak.

To sterilize, I either run the dishwasher on the sanitize cycle or boil them when I'm cooking dinner since I'm at the stove already.
I have a Medela pump, and the manual says to boil for 10 minutes. I might start doing only 5 though because the last time it warped one of the bottles. But yes, sanitizing is pretty easy! You just have to disassemble it, wash it and boil it.

I hated breastfeeding and was super vocal about it to SO, family, and friends. I told SO I'd rather give birth once a week than breastfeed.

And now I am in love with it. Especially the night time feedings when the house is quiet and we're rocking in the nursery. I'm extremely happy SO is obsessed with hoarding my breastmilk (we have about 20 bags in the freezer and heaven forbid we take one out before the wedding we are going to down the road...) so that he doesnt have an excuse to give her a bottle while he's home unless I'm working.

Also, on a typical day, I pump each boob once during the nighttime feedings.

  • Order the medela steam bags on Amazon, takes 2 minutes to sterilize. Done and done, best invention ever.

  • Do you guys in the US have electric sterilisers in shops? They are so easy to use. This is mine. You literally bung all your bottles / parts in, add a bit of cold water, press the button and 4 minutes later it's all sterilised. So much easier than pans of water on the stove etc.

  • @mamrotu73‌ Pumping before a run is a great idea! I'm gonna do that for sure. I've been worries about running with the extra weight, so really. Thanks for the idea! Also, buying that bag right now.

@SLSchuerg‌ on my old BMB (july11), the only SIDS death I remember was one by a fairly regular member who said her baby died of SIDS. Turned out she made the whole thing up.

SIDS is way less common than pregnancy loss is. Try not to worry.

Can you explain this? Was she even pregnant? How did y'all find out? Was there a reason why she dd this?
Sorry for the late response. :) so, as I recall, she did have a baby IRL and was a part of the July11 bump FB group. She was posting as usual one day and then a few days later posted a sad goodbye and detailed story about her LO dying of SIDS in her crib. It was awful. I can't remember how everyone figured out it wasn't true... I think because she kept posting on FB about her baby after that.

I can not wait to leave DS with my MIL tomorrow night. We are having date night (dinner and a movie - and probably my first alcoholic beverage in forever!) and I couldn't be more excited to be getting away. I love him to bits, I'm sure when the time comes I will get a little sad and call to check on him several times, but I've been looking forward to this all week and it's the only thing that has gotten me through to constant crying and lack of sleep. Mama needs a break!

  • I like the six week no sex rule. Playing just the tip brings a whole new dimension to our sex life.
  • With DS1 I used to sterilize pump parts every feeding, sterilize bottles weekly and all of the toys he mouthed weekly. After the first few weeks, I quit doing it altogether and everything was fine. I pumped for over a year and always just washed pump parts immediately afterwards.

You can wash the mesh panties?!? Here I am going commando because I tossed all of them and washing my yoga pants every day.

Yep! I wouldn't have known either except @ColleenSwerb‌ mentioned it!
  • I wanna do my husband so bad, but I am getting more and more apprehensive the closer I get to my 6wk appointment. We made out like teenagers the other day and just carefully dry humping was incredibly uncomfortable. :-S
  • I don't change Los clothes unless they are pooped on peed on or spit up on. What's the point?

This rule had me changing kiddo's clothes ten times a day. I'm wondering how long you can make a onesie last! I leave him in a spit up on onesie more often than I care to admit. Pee and poop warrants an immediate change.

I just went to get a pedicure (amazing) and totally had a poop spot on my bra. To be fair, my other one is in the laundry with spit up all over it...maybe I need to invest in a third...

Ooo! I remember what I meant to post. Although I feel I've been an active mobile "bumper" these past 9 months, I finally broke down and admitted to myself that I still didn't know what "DS," "SO," "DD" and, well, most Bump acronyms stood for. I found the glossary and felt like a fool. :\"> So, now with confidence, I can say, "AW - IMO, I have the best SO ever! He started the laundry AND got me Rita's water ice while BF'ing DD!"

Omg I was totally gonna post this same thing! Where is this glossary you speak of?!? I got a lot of them but I don't understand the ds and dh..... Like why the d before husband?

Yay - I'm not alone! "D" is for "dear/dearest." Sorry for the long link, but here's an "unofficial" copy I found: ;-)

  • I was homeschooled from 3rd-9th grade. I basically had 0 social contact with people outside of my household. I resorted to chat rooms and online forums as a way to have friends because I had no other choice. Now that I have a life and friends, I'd like to be friends with some of you on here. Though I enjoy bumping and contributing to discussions, I don't feel that I can call anyone here a friend even though I've made attempts. Oh the irony!

  • I don't sanitize anything after the first time.

I don't take birth control and we just pull out. I don't logically want another baby for at least 2 years but since we had to do IUI for this LO part of me wants to experience a surprise pregnancy. I feel cheated out of that experience.

We used pull and pray for the entire 4 years before TTC. I think it works great if done correctly by two people in a committed relationship who are both ok with a suprise pregnancy.
  • One more.

After complaining that I'm lonely I feel a little overwhelmed by the amount of visitors this week and kinda look forward to when they leave so I can just chill on the couch with my boobs out and watch senseless shows on Netflix....

I even leave pee if it's just a little bit - gross right?

DS1 would spit up all the time and I was constantly changing his clothes. Then my mom is all "why don't you just put a bib on him?" BRILLIANT!

My MIL for some strange reason thinks these hideous brown leather sandals are cute and has bought DS pairs for 2 years now (except for some strange reason she always buys one size bigger than we tell her, so he's wearing last year's pair now). I spend an unnecessary amount of time scheming how I could accidentally "lose" these darn things. Seriously, she raves about how adorable they are and they are awful. I should be grateful for not having to buy my kid sandals, but I just can't get beyond the ugly.

DH has been sleeping on the sofa since the night we brought LO home... I've been asking every week when he's coming back to bed to which he always answers "soon baby, soon enough" .... Um obviously not soon enough!! I'm ok with him not getting up with LO since I EBF but him in the other room just adds to the feeling of disconnect. I have my 6wk appt in 10 days and if he thinks for one second he's going to come back to bed and get lucky that night he will be seriously blue balled and mistaken. Also sometimes I let LO sleep on my chest when he's having a rough night DH says "you're creating bad habits!" To which I answer "well at least someone wants to sleep with me, AND if u want to try to get him to sleep in the bassinet when he's wide awake at 3am be my guest.... Oh wait u have no idea about these things because you sleep peacefully through the night on the sofa so IDGAF!!!"
  • @emh81‌ I get this! Crazy inlaws who wants to take my LO, he's 5 weeks old sometimes we don't even know what he wants how the hell would she know! I'm not BF (issues at birth) I don't understand why they need to take him what do they need to do with him they can't do around me! I'm not ready to leave LO with anyone apart from OH

Yes! What is the deal with this!!?? They had their babies and my guess is they didn't leave them with anyone for quite some time so why do they think we should? My mom took me everywhere with her, as a result I knew how to behave in public and talk to adults at a young age. My sister got married in Chicago last weekend and my MIL went as far as telling me "you're leaving that baby with me!" ...1 he has a name and 2 no, just no. He was 3 weeks old... What kind if a crazy person leaves their 3 week old baby for 4 days? He went with us and was a great little traveler :)

That's nuts! My dd came with us to a wedding last week (almost 3 weeks old) and it was only a couple hours from home and I wasn't willing to leave her with my mom to go. I can believe that she thought you would leave you LO for a couple days at that age!
