Almost time for Labor Buddies!

Hey everyone,

A while back, labor buddies were brought up on the board, and the consensus was that before we set them up, we want everyone to be at viability. I'm excited to say that's only two weeks away! So before we get to June 10, can we discuss and iron out:

What exactly IS a labor buddy to the people on our board?

What kind of commitment are you making if you opt to get/be a labor buddy?

What goes into matching people? Is it random? Does due date matter? Does time zone?

Is there someone you have already arranged to be partnered with? Is there anyone particular you'd hope to have, or hope not to have?

Just putting it out there that I would love to coordinate since I'll be done teaching by June 10 and will have plenty of time (yay!!) but if the board wants someone else I'm fine with that too.

Oooh I'd love to do it!  I think a lot of us are friends already, would it make sense to start pairing ourselves up?

  • Maybe if people are comfortable, they can take care of that? I don't want anyone to feel pressure since a good half of us aren't at viability yet?

  • When we open up a "who wants a labor buddy" thread I (or whoever is doing it) can ask who already has it settled, and respect that when the list is made. :)

  • Way back with DS (2008) it was someone we randomly were paired with to avoid "being the odd one out." It was posted on the spreadsheet who everyone was paired with.

EDD and time zones weren't factored in because anything could happen at any time. We chose between buddies how to contact- either PM on TB or text. It was done to update the board with who went into labor, when, and baby stats. Birth stories were done by the moms after they settled into their homes.

I think what can happen is once the 10th rolls around.. people add their name to a spreadsheet... then after x amount of hours it's randomly paired off (and spreadsheet closed to prevent peopel from messing it up... lol). IF you are close with someone... then maybe just don't comment on the thread.. since you already chose your labor buddy???

ETA- Idk if this is a good way to do it since this is my 1st bmb

  • Woohoo I'm excited to have a labor buddy, I wasn't very active on DS's bmb so I've never had one.

    This :)
  • Sounds good! I would be interested in participating as well.

  • @lindsayhilleary We have the same due date :(  Labor buddy time is the only time that's a downer.  I would also like someone who is a PgALer.

    All ALers welcome!
  • I can only speak for how it was done on my BMB. Everyone wrote in a thread EDD, time zone. Then the person sorted in by time zone then EDD. LBs were I the same time zone and two weeks apart. (1st week was paired with 3rd and 2nd with 4th.) Idk how any other BMBs did it.

I think 1st and 3rd/2nd and 4th weeks are a good idea, and if time zone matters to people they can include that info too - though like @23Melissa28‌ said, they can come any time.

  • Yay! This is exciting! As a FTM I have no clue what works and doesn't but I'm happy to follow along :)
  • I'm definitely interested but want to echo what @lindsayhilleary and @kateitho said: I would also prefer a fellow PgALer. Thanks for building the awareness, @mrsdaniellem2010 :)

I would love to have a labor buddy and would like a pgal but if you factor time zone I can be with one person on the board @Texasgurly0313‌ because I think she's the only other Hawaii. I like the idea of a couple people just in case you and your labor buddy are in labor the same time or they disappear for whatever reason.

I would definitely take into account if people said they preferred one buddy or a group of 3/4.

  • Holy crap time is going so fast! Can't believe its labor buddy time already! With Ds1 i had a labor buddy through PGAL, they were assigned randomly based on due dates (staggered by a week or two).. Time zones also didn't matter. Mine went MIA long before we reached delivery, so I ended up updating the board myself, but it would be neat to be paired up with an active person as a labor buddy! I'd like a PGAL or high risk person as I was early both times due to pre-e and DS1 was a NICU babe, so we have no idea what to expect this go round! If all goes well tough, I'll be a scheduled RCS!

    Excited for this thread!

Here's how August did theirs and it seemed to work good for them. https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12314636/want-a-labor-buddy-sign-up-here/p1 Unless people are worried about time zones too. The matching would be done by the person running it @mrsdanielleM2010‌ so no ones feelings are hurt. Of course you can request to be with a specific person or with another pgal. If Danielle is open to it pm her if there is anyone you really don't want to be matched with. Then after a certain date the list will get posted. Is that too much work?

Doesn't feel like too much work @zoeygirl1105. I would definitely respect any request - so far it looks like those would include pgal, high risk, time zone, and a specific person. Looks like the August one went smoothly. ETA I'll post something similar to this on June 10 (unless people pick someone else to do it of course)

  • If there's mutual picking, like with @ 23Melissa28 and I, they dont need to post. If they do it might clutter the people actually looking for someone to be assigned. We can be added to a master list later for bookkeeping purposes

Good call. If anyone is settled just let me know either in this thread or via pm. :)

  • @mrsdanielleM2010 You're mine biotch! But you already know that ;)@justcricket can come too if she would like.

So I should go ahead with this sweet tat?

     imageimage

  • Yay!!!  I love this!!!!  Maybe in the spread sheet we can put notes like RCS or PgAL to help @MrsDanielleM2010 match people up?

There are sooooo many people in the spreadsheet who haven't really been around - I wonder if they're still even reading?

I think I like the thread idea from @zoeygirl1105 and when I make the thread I'll put instructions saying to put due date and any other specifics the people want considered - like RCS or PGAL or anything else. Good suggestion @SmileyGirl18‌!
