I love Scarlett as well and don't think it sounds stripperish. As for the OSU thing though, my BIL just named their dog Scarlett after OSU colors but I don't think I would associate a child's name with the team colors but you might get other people that ask that though.
I like Scarlett a lot too! I guess I am a huge Gone With the Wind fan though She has sass and class though, so there is that. I hope my (not sure if I am having one so hypothetical) daughter has some serious class.
I like the name a lot, but it is fairly popular where we live, and DH's best friend from college is a Scarlet. So, yes, I think your family are being a little dramatic. And you should totally stick to your guns and name your daughter what you want! (Also, I am still so excited for you that you are having a daughter! Is that weird?)
Nope! It still hasn't completely sunk in yet, but when I think about it I get so excited and giddy.
I think Scarlet is a beautiful name, and not a stripper name at all lol. It goes well with the boys names, too! I'm also a huge fan of Gone With the Wind, and always think of plantations and Southern charm when I hear the name.
I love the name and definitely don't think it sounds stripper-ish. My MIL doesn't like the middle name we chose but we don't care because we like it and in the end it is our decision.
I don't think it sounds stripperish at all. Maybe it makes them think of The Scarlett Letter, which makes them think of promiscuity? I think it's a pretty name - I say go for it!
DH and I have been married 3+ years. This is our first PG, and we are thrilled!
Can't wait to meet our baby BOY, Mateo in October!!
Family members can be the toughest critics. When I brought up our boy and girl names, my brother was immediately rude about the girl name saying it was ugly and weird. I said well when you decide to have children, you can select their names and I will fully support you because it's not up to me to judge. I keep trying to tell myself you can't please everyone, even though it hurts your family won't just shut up and say, awww sweet, we love it!
I actually know a stripper named Scarlett and I still don't think that makes it a stripper-ish name. My husband is an OSU alumni so I think of Scarlett and Gray when I hear Scarlett but I wouldn't assume that you named your baby after that.
I don't hear stripper at all when I think Scarlett. I like the name.
Side note - I am an Ohio person as well, and I know a couple that named their daughter Scarlett Grey as a complete nod to OSU - but neither parent attended the school. I wouldn't recommend that
This is why I don't want to tell anyone our name choices....someone always has something negative to say.
This!!! My family bugged and bugged about names for DS and I gave them nothing. Once they met DS in the hospital no one had anything to say. (My dad made a face but I chose to ignore him.) I heard some 2nd hand comments from extended family but nobody said anything directly to me. I personally don't care to hear others opinions on my name choices for my children. But anyway if you both like it, go with it! I think it's beautiful and as long as you don't murder the spelling, I wouldn't think striper!
(I know a 'Skarlet' little girl 3 years old and with that spelling I DO think stripper!)

Definitely not! Ha. I would never name my kid after OSU and I don't want people thinking I did. I'm sure people will question it, that's the one reason I sort of second guess Scarlett. dammit.
I love it! When I think stripper names I think Crystal etc... Scarlett makes me think O'Hara. I love a kind of weird name, that my husband loves too...so we're not telling anyone so it can't get shot down. Once it's the kid's name people get used to it.
Re: My turn for name opinions.
I agree too that it reminds me of Gone With the Wind.
Nope!
