My turn for name opinions.

DH and I are almost 100% positive that little girl will be names Scarlett Ann. Ann is my mom and grandma's middle names, and we just like the name Scarlett.

Yesterday at my aunt's Memorial Day party we shared the name and pretty much got all negative feedback from my mom and her 4 sisters. They all liked Ann but kept saying Scarlett was a stripper name and that it didn't go with Jack and Charlie. My grandma liked it though. One reason DH and I had considered not using it is because I went to OSU and people would assume it's for the school colors scarlet & gray... of course that got brought up by my cousin. Most of the people in DH's family don't like it either. Wtf yo?

We still plan on using it, but I'm just curious what other people think. Is it really that bad of a name? Does it sound stripper-ish? Do you think it goes with the boys' names okay?

I love it, but Gone With the Wind is also one of my favorite books. And I think it fits just fine with the boys' names. Use it and don't give a second thought to the negativity. Once that little girl gets here, everyone will see that she IS a Scarlett.

I know 2 Scarlets, and they are the most adorable children I have ever seen.  There is nothing 'stripperish' about it.  I would think stripper of maybe a Candy or Vixen or something like that, but Scarlett makes me think of Gone with the Wind.  It's gorgeous.

I love it. It was on the short list of names we brought to the hospital with my DD (we ended up going with Violet once we saw her though). This is why I don't want to tell anyone our name choices....someone always has something negative to say. All of us really liked the name Ruby for this baby but when dh told his mother she freaked out..begging us not to use that name. So now, dh won't even consider the name. Anyway, if you love it, go for it.

I do not think it is a stripper name and I'm shocked your family was so negative. I think it's a great name without any weird connotations.

I personally think Scarlett is a beautiful name. If it was "Candy", "Bubbles", "Luscious", etc. then we would have something to talk about!! Bottom line is - It's your baby and you should name it whatever you and DH want to! Family will get used to it once they see the baby!

I love it. I don't see anything "stripperish" about it at all. It flows really pretty too. It's your choice if they don't like it tough. I actually had an Aunt who had the nerve to say the name I picked wasn't african enough. Lol. Still going to use it.

I love it. Definitely not a stripper name. It's feminine and classy. Use it if you love it. No one will be thinking stripper when they see your adorable baby girl.

Scarlett must be one high class stripper because I just hear classic elegance with that name!  It isn't one we considered but I really love that name.  I think it ages well and is beautiful!

I don't think it sounds stripper-ish at all. Use it! My DH's family doesn't like our name and I don't care lol.

I think it is a pretty name and goes really nicely with your boys' names.  Also, my MN is Ann.

I also think your family's reaction is a perfect example of why I refuse to discuss names with anyone (at least IRL). I'm irrationally annoyed on your behalf!

Scarlet was on our short list for DD.  I LOVE it, and I don't think there is anything stripper-ish about it at all.  I don't even understand where they get that idea from.  Sorry your families have been so negative about it.  They'll all feel guilty for reacting that way after she's born and named.  I think it goes great with your boys' names, too!

Unlike everyone else, it doesn't make me think of Gone With the Wind because I've never read it or seen the movie.  It makes me think of the Grateful Dead, because Scarlet Begonias is one of my favorite Dead songs, and the reason that we initially thought of the name for DD.

Thanks ladies! I realize plenty of people won't like my kids' names and I'm perfectly fine with that. That's why I don't mind sharing the name, but I was really shocked to hear the majority of people (in our families) didn't like it. I was just wondering if my perception of the name was way off.

We don't plan on changing our minds and, honestly, I think DH and I both too bull headed to change it now and have people think it was because of their shitty opinions.

I think it's a beautiful name and is not at all "stripper-ish."  I don't understand the negative reactions, but as long as you guys love it, use it!

I think it's such a cute name!  To me, it does not sound like a stripper name, it's just less traditional than what our parents may be used to.  My dad has similar feelings about a possible name for our baby girl, Fiona...but I will still use it if that's what DH and I decide.

I don't think it's a stripper name at all! I know a Scarlett-she's a friend of SIL. She's incredibly smart and I'd never associate her name with a stripper. Go with it if you love it.

Scarlett is a pretty name.  I wouldn't call it a stripper name, but to me it has overly dramatized connotations and vibes for some reason.

I really like it. I got advice ones to not share names with family until you know exactly what you want... Thought that was silly but mAybe I will wait because my family is negative Nancy's. But Scarlett is adorable. Good luck

I love the name Scarlett, and I love Gone with the Wind too. I don't think it sounds like a stripper's name

I hate when people make comments like that. There is a difference between giving your opinion and being flat out rude. I had similar feedback when I picked a name for DS, we named him that regaudless and have no regrets! I love Scarlett! I think it's classic and elegant.

I love it.  Like others said, I'd just be ready for people to be asking you if you're a Gone with the Wind fan.  We get that question a lot because our daughter is Vivian and the actress that played Scarlett was Vivien Leigh.

The only way the Scarlett is a stripper name is if we were back in the 1800's.  I think that today there are probably not a bunch of strippers named that, to tame and doesn't rhyme with any body parts.

I agree with pp that once she is here people we not even blink over the name.  Just don't call her Lexus or Mercedes and you should be all right!

Definitely not a stripper name. Your family are being a bunch of party poopers! This is kind of the reason I plan not to publicly commit to a name until baby is born. I don't want to deal with naysayers and negativity! But really, who cares what they think? It's a nice name and if you guys love it, go for it

I can understand people having different tastes in names but from that to calling it a stripper name is taking it too far. I see nothing wrong with the name and I personally think it's pretty.

Unfortunately we've had similar reactions & going forward our motto is decide & announce!!! Not open for discussion.

My guess is your beautiful baby girl will have them all smitten with the name Scarlett!

Exactly why we haven't told anyone any of our name choices for the other two or this baby.  I think Scarlett is beautiful (and it was on our short list for DD).

I like Scarlett and don't think it sounds like as stripper name at all. But I will say when I saw Scarlett with the middle name Ann the first thing I thought of was the Scarlet Letter and the "Scarlet A".

I like the name, but I do associate it with Gone With the a Wind. I think who cares what your family thinks...it's not their child!
