Haha Am I the only one that goes in with a page-long list at every appointment? Usually a new list starts right after my last appointment...obviously certified crazypants right here.
Haha @anymax I have a list but I feel like it's all crazy questions... I want to make sure there's nothing I'm missing that I need to ask that's actually a legitimate question! My doctor says all my problems with the pregnancy are above my ears. I tend to worry a little!

You know what though? If you have those concerns, no matter how crazy you think they are, these appointments are the perfect time to bring them up. You are better off letting the trained professional that you are paying clear things up for you, rather than letting it eat away at you and it turning into an extensive Google search that results in a self-diagnosis of the most rare case of something ever...which just makes you panic worse...
I went in with no questions. The doc actually asked me if there were any new aches/pains, if I was feeling baby, if we had started looking for pediatricians, and if I was feeling ok. Short and sweet appt.

You may want to ask about kick counts. I know with E they wanted to me count kicks and call if they were ever below a certain number. I'm sure we'll do the same this time, I just forget when in pregnancy they start it.

@AnyMax - You aren't the only one! I keep an entire note on my phone dedicated to questions I thin k of. My OB chuckles at me every appointment because I whip out my phone and run through all the questions I had thought of since the last appointment.
I cannot stand it when you think of a million questions to ask them, don't write them down, then sit in the appointment like an idiot not thinking of a single question until you are headed home.
I WISH I had a lot of questions. Most times she asks me if I have any questions and I have nothing for her and feel like an idiot that I didnt have any.

I always have a TON too, but I don't think at this point there are "standard" questions because everyone experiences pregnancy differently.
I will add the glucose test to my list of questions!
I have heard that it is "dreaded", but I know nothing about it! What does it entail?
I'm also having tons of BH contractions (they told me at my last appt that I've got an "irritable uterus") so I'll ask for more detail about what that means and how I should be handling it.

The glucose test is when they have you drink this orange liquid that tastes like sugary Gatorade and then they take a blood sample an hour later. My OB had me do the test at my first appointment in the first trimester and I'll be doing it again next week. It didn't seem that bad at first until the sugar started absorbing in my system. I am hypoglycemic so my body processes sugars differently anyway, so I got a headache, had difficulty concentrating, and felt nauseous. By the time they drew my blood, I passed out on the chair. Again- it's probably not that bad for everyone but for me it was because of the hypoglycemia.
Eek! I'm hypoglycemic too! I will ask about this today and see if he says there's anything I can do to help! Hope your results were good to make it worth the little 'nap'!
I WISH I had a lot of questions. Most times she asks me if I have any questions and I have nothing for her and feel like an idiot that I didnt have any.
I am confused. If you don't have any questions, then you don't have any questions. Why do you need to make up questions? I don't get it.
I dont think she wants to make up questions but is wondering if there are specific things right now she needs to discuss with her doctor, any testing or something
Agreed.
Then again, sometimes I like to make up questions because I feel like an idiot when I go in there without questions. They say, "Do you have any questions?" And I'm all 'NOPE!" Which seems silly to me because I am absolutely clueless about all things baby, so I'm not sure how I don't have questions. I think I'm just overwhelmed each time I go in, so I think having a list ahead of time is a great idea!
S14 August Siggy Challenge.....ALL OF THE ALCOHOLS
24wk appointment we mostly discussed the glucose test which was already mentioned. We also discussed getting my rhogam shot (negative blood type) at my next appointment and when I hit 3rd tri he wants me to get tdap.
oh yes! My Dtap. Wait is there a difference in t-dap and d-tap?
No it's dtap. Got my letters mixed up but apparently there is a tdap that looks like the same thing but for teens? Who knows.
ETA: or maybe tdap is the booster?
Why can't it all just be the same!
shit... I knew I forgot to ask about something while I was there. ooh well. still got some time. lmao
I WISH I had a lot of questions. Most times she asks me if I have any questions and I have nothing for her and feel like an idiot that I didnt have any.
Eh, don't wish for questions! Just be thankful you're not stressing! It's super healthy for you and baby to be relaxed.

I understand having lists if you actually HAVE questions you desire the answers to. I guess I just don't understand the need to have questions if you don't already have them! If all is well hopefully there won't be a lot of questions and the appt will be short and sweet. Good doctors should be filling you in on what to expect and upcoming milestones. That's just my opinion.
Eta: I guarantee your doctor doesn't think you are an idiot for not having questions. He or she is probably glad to have an appointment that runs on time!!
Always a ray of sunshine. Many people are overwhelmed by the amount of information they are suddenly expected to know, so many don't even know what they SHOULD be asking about. She isn't making up questions just to have something to ask, she is wanting to know what she SHOULD be asking about. There is a difference. Reading this thread, I wouldn't have thought to ask about my t-dap, just to make sure everything is squared away. Doctors are human too and they may overlook things from time to time. A 30 sec question asking if you are up-to-date on all of your immunizations will not make your appointment go long.

Seriously?! Ok. So no one else on this board can ask legit questions or have a different opinion than others?! I give up. I have been on TB for five years. This board blows.
I thought the whole point of your response was that you DIDN'T want us to ask questions? Now you want to ask questions about questions. I'm confused now.

Don't worry. You poofed me away. Success. I was hoping to eventually settle in and provide and find support over here, but doesn't look like it is going to happen. Congrats.
Thank you. And I was thinking I didn't accomplish anything today.

I'm confused as to why our board blows. I'm one of those never have a question people, but then I leave the appointment and think of all the questions. There's nothing wrong with asking the board what you should be asking about. I think the ladies on here made good and helpful points that I know I didn't think of at my 24 week appointment.
The only person not being supportive here was you. Bye bye.
@jmacbmac I took mine yesterday... and I'm guessing they have to send it off to a lab so I didn't get results right away. I'm just going to assume if I don't hear anything then everything was good! I may ask when I go back on Monday what the timeline is. I keep forgetting all sorts of stuff to ask. And not that I don't trust my doc, he's so laid back he doesn't really talk about a whole bunch of stuff and may assume I already know some of the little details.
also I'm glad two people on here have a nice place to bond over how much we blow as a board... you can always just stop posting over here if we suck so much. Sorry us FTM's are a little more concerned that we may not be asking the right questions if it's not brought up at our appointments. This is coming from someone who lives in a rural area and has TWO doctors to choose from, so I can't really just change doctors if I feel like he's not filling me in enough.
It wasn't about this post alone. It has been about a series of posts and this one just brought it to the surface. Sorry to OP for derailing another thread.
I'd say enlighten us, but I don't think that will happen. Considering your boohoo come save me jss post, I'd say you both don't care to be supportive on this board anyway... Which, for the record, I think the only unsupportive person on this thread was you. But we are just poor FTMs so what do we know.
Now I'll give you time to go edit your posts in April like you do all your responses.
S14 August Siggy Challenge.....ALL OF THE ALCOHOLS
Mine is this Friday with a different doc in the practice as mine is out if town at her son's wedding. They gave me the glucose drink to take with me at the 20 week so I'm to drink that before this appt and have blood drawn. Not sure what else is happening. Are ultrasounds common at 24? I kind of want one to check on my cord issue but wonder if it's good to do with a diff doc etc.
@revery I talked to my doc about the whole cord thing and he said he's not doing it as often as I thought. Maybe I misheard? Either way I'm doing one next week (26w) and then one at 30, 32, and then weekly after that. I thought I may be getting my u/s at this apt but he wanted to wait until 26w esp since I said baby has been pretty active
jss had nothing to do with it. i will stop posting over here. not going to edit anything. sometimes i do realize i spoke unkindly or too fast and go back to change it b/c that isn't my goal. but i don't feel that way about anything i have said in any post in the past 2 days so not planning on changing it.
In any post except the one you edited yesterday and the one you edited this morning? It's irrelevant, anyway. We've read the read, we suck, we are unsupportive, we are FTM morons, yada yada. Same shit, different poster. Good riddance.

Im not sure I understand what happened here. A mom is a little unsure what she should be asking about (which I totally get being in the same boat... I dont even know what I dont know!). Then a bunch of people responded supportively about this stage in her pregnancy. Then someone (you) tells her she doesnt need to be doing that and says the board is bad. Im having one of those "did that just really happen moments?" I would be extremely disappointed in the board if everyone had responded in the manner you did that negated her genuine feelings. As for the "Ive been around 5 years" reference... Ive been in the overall community for over 10 years... My membership is listed as "ancient." I have posted in many boards through that time and if anything the last month has shown me what a truly supportive community the Sept 14 board has become. In all honesty the only non-supportive response here hon was yours. Maybe your feelings stem from threads of old but this OP didn't deserve anything but advice and support.
I never opened this post because I am almost always the patient that shrugs and doesn't have any questions.
Damn, I don't even understand what happened in here. Not cool bad talking our awesome board to another board. I am a member of both Jan13 and Sept14 and love them both dearly. Completely different environments, but both filled with lovely supportive women. I'm sorry we aren't fitting your needs @grace0609 but at least you have your other BMB. Bye.
So anyway... @LaurenWarwick, how did your appointment go yesterday? Hopefully you got to hear LO and doc didn't think you were too crazypants
It went ok!
(TMI alert...) Have been having a lot of contractions again (I have an irritable uterus) so he did a vaginal exam to check for infection and to check my cervix. Cervix all good, but I have a bacterial infection again, which is what is increasing my contractions. He pretty much said I'll keep getting it, and every time I notice the contractions picking back up, to call in and get my antibiotic refilled. FANTASTIC! Ew. He also said I'm a couple pounds over where I should be (he chalked it up to fluid retention, which is why he didn't mention it until I asked... I wish I hadn't asked). I scheduled my glucose test for 27 weeks, and then I'll follow up with him at my 28 week appt.
He started listing out the rest of my appointments and it really hit me how close to the end we're getting!
Sorry for TMI and rambling, I was super bummed when I left for some reason so feels good to share.
Thanks for all the good suggestions... I don't mind going in with no questions, but like other posters said, I don't know what I don't know, since I've never done this before. I knew there should be things coming up since I'm nearing the end of the 2nd tri, but wasn't sure that those things should be.
Sorry for the delayed update... I'm new to this whole discussion board thing, so sometimes I forget to check it!!
