  • @TJ1979 Last night i even told my daughter, "this looks like it could be fruit". Should have gone with my instincts. She's been  with me all day so I can attempt to get another stool sample for bacteria testing. But this time they gave me a "hat" so she can just poop in there and I don't have to stick my hand in the toilet. So far all I've gotten is the urine sample. Hopefully she poops soon.

I hated that toilet hat! The hospital used it to measure urine output after M's birth. I had to pee SOOOOO BAD after I had already gone. I overflowed the damn thing

  • Okay, I feel really, really, really rotten now. I just started letting nearly 2-year-old DS ride on the lawnmower to cut the grass. My brother and I grew up riding on the tractor with my dad, so it seemed normal to me. I even got DS special toddler-sized ear protection. Then the 4-wheeler talk made me really stop and think about the risks of riding lawnmowers, and it dawned on me that the lawnmower doesn't just stop dead still when DH turns it off, so if DS ever fell it could still seriously hurt him. Now I feel like a giant dumb a$$ for not thinking of that sooner. Crap!!! The worst part is that I am probably more upset about the fits DS is now going to throw when I don't let him ride the mower with his daddy. I think we're just going to have to pave whole dang yard.

I'm glad this made you rethink it. When I was a kid, a kid at my daycare fell off a riding lawn mower and lost 3 fingers.

No one tells you how much you'll analyze poop once you're a mom.  I should compile a list of things no one tells you, lol.
When I called this am, the lady was like "oh do you have the poopy diaper?" I told her "I wish it was a diaper, my daughter is almost 7!"  She was laughing.  So gross.

I'm glad this made you re-think the riding mower. I've heard some really bad stories about these.  And of course this is not something our husbands would ever think of. I can totally picture my H letting our kids ride one with him and me having a fit.

I know - I feel like an idiot! In my head I was completely thinking that the blade stopped as soon as DH hit the kill switch.

I have been home for a week and still can't get back into my routines. My house is a wreck and I don't care enough to get off the computer while little man is napping. My second FFC is I love calling my baby little man because 1) I am not putting his real name on the boards for everyone to see despite the fact that some serious internet stalking could get it for you rather easily. 2) With his crazy amount of hair and lack of baby fat he looks like a tiny man so I think its appropriate.

Now a story. My completely sober uncle was four wheeling on ground around his house that he was completely familiar with, he was going to the lake and not driving recklessly. He hit a bad patch of rock hidden under some leaves that had recently shifted and the very high end atv flipped, landed on him and broke his back. If he had a baby strapped to him that baby would be dead. I just don't get the risk reward ratio.

  • All this talk about staying at home vs working gave me a FFFC. I am a stay at home mom now. Before DD was born I was a house wife. I haven't "worked" in nearly seven years. DH makes good money and gave me the option to quit working before we ever got married, my choice was to wait until we were married. For our marriage and family; me not working is the best thing. I can take care of everything at the house, so he doesn't have to leave work for things like the exterminator. He likes that the house is clean and I have (had) time to the things I want.

I'm a big believer in every family needs to figure out what works for them. When DH and I first got married, I was adamant that I would be staying at home as soon as I had our first baby. When G was born, though, I happened to be in a job that enabled me to put being a mama first while still working part time. Once that was no longer working, I left my job to stay at home full time. I can absolutely see the benefits of both sides, and I don't think there's any one "right" way to be a good wife and mother (obviously provided all of your child's needs at being met ;) ).

  • I long to SAH. My husband went back to school but by the time he gets out, the boys will be in school. Having said that, it's my fault I can't stay home. When I was young I wracked up a bunch of CC debt I am still trying to get out from under...
  • Sometimes I really, really miss working outside of the house b/c I worked hard to get good at what I did. On the flip side, I really don't want to go back to the same job b/c it took way more than 40 hours a week, regularly involved physical risk, and would now have an even bigger caseload with  less support b/c of system cuts. Plus I have barely been sick at all since SAH compared to regularly having to be on antibiotics and getting steroid shots while working. I'm kind of terrified that I only have two more years to figure out what kind of job to look for next, but I honestly have my head in the sand about it a lot of the time.

I was a housewife too. I was initially trying to find work, but eventually we just decided it worked great for our relationship for me to stay home. I plan on going to grad school and working once LO is in school.

Another confession: I am irrationally angry at mh for being sick right now. I know it isn't his fault, and I'm sorry he feels bad. But I could really use a helping hand more than another kid to take care of.

  • Whenever breastfeeding is well established I say go for the pacifier.  For both of my kids that was really early and I've never had supply issues, so my son got a pacifier within hours of birth.  I have no regrets.  My daughter got one after a couple of weeks.  She used it for awhile and then around six months spit it out and never touched it again.

  • DS stopped using a paci around 3 months the last day of vacation when we were trying to drive home. That drive took a lot longer than getting there. Then he started sucking his thumb. Now he doesn't even do that.
  • Once I decided that DS was never going to BF, we did the pacifier thing. FFFC, once he figured out how to put a paci in his own mouth at night, I would leave at least 3 or 4 in the crib so he always had a good chance of finding one without waking me up. My sole reason for using (breathable) bumpers was to keep the paci's from falling through the crib slats.

We had to put breathable bumpers on G's bed because he thought it was hilarious to shove his pacifiers through the slats... Unfortunately, his crib was at an angle in the corner, so at least once a week we had to move his crib and "harvest" all the pacifiers.

I'm thinking about getting a paci for P. E never took one and I was always so happy about that. But this baby just wants to suck all.the.time.

New research is out that giving a pacifier can reduce SIDS. I think it was in the journal of pediatrics
Yep our pedi recommended one for this reason.

No I don't think so. My LC suggested the Soothie ones because they are more like a real nipple. G never liked them.

We ended up with a Nuk silicone which my pediactric dentist aunt recommended. We did have a period from like 3-6 weeks where I noticed if he had a lot of paci time his latch would get shallow for BF'ing. I just kept unlatching him until he got wide enough and tried to limit paci time.

At the hospital I dropped eggs and chocolate cake.

At home my husband laughs when I brush the crumbs off him or stand him up and find food.
