  • i've spent the last 20 minutes googling sources on shaken baby syndrome and infants on 4 wheelers to post in the UO thread instead of cleaning my kitchen like I told my husband I would do if he took all the boys outside.

I once saw a kid who had a TBI and multiple injuries from being in a 4-wheeler accident. Granted, he was 6 years old and being held by a parent, so the situation is a little different. But they hit a bump which shifted them into a tree (not at crazy high speeds either) which sent the kid flying and he ended up with a brain injury, multiple fractures, and a tracheostomy due to the extent of his injuries.

And he WASN'T 4 months old. Just sayin'...

  • Meesh, I told the USPS post master that if they continued to deliver mail for previous residents that I was just going to trash the mail, regardless of what it was. Dh bought the house in 2010 and I figure if USPS can't sort the previous residents' mail out and the previous residents never notified people of their address change then I'm not responsible for putting it back into the mail system. It's bad enough that twice now, I have had people stop by (2 different people) looking for previous residents 3+ years after dh moved in.

We get a lot of mail for previous renters of our house. The other day there was what looked like a card from a vet's office. One of those generic "ugly birthday" cards for your pet (and by the way he's do for an exam) type card. No return address. So I opened it

It had two circus tickets in it, and a ten dollar bill. Seemed to be a birthday card for "Victoria".

I pocketed the money. There was no return address!!!

    Story time...

We had my wife's wedding ring shipped to our house after being purchased while we were on vacation.  Apparently someone with the same name as her (first and last) used to live on our street, but had moved. The post office delivered it to her new fwded address (luckily in the same town).  She tried to KEEP it. Literally, when it didn't show up and we had called the store and the PO - the postmaster finally looked her up and called her and she was like, oh I just thought it was a bday present from my boyfriend.  Really? Your bf gets you diamond rings for your bday, without a card or anything?  The postmaster demanded she bring it back, which she did, without the box or the receipt. We happened to find out her new address in this process and whenever we drive by talk about egging her house....

Yikes. I would NOT keep a ring! Lol

  • Aw, Meesh.  What about poor Victoria who can't go to the circus now?  I'm not flaming you, but I would totally take this as an opportunity to do detective work.  Maybe your landlord has their forwarding info?  Or maybe you could google your own address with their last name and find them online?

I question my choices as a parent A LOT. "How will this affect M later in life?" Etc etc etc. I've never debated "should I take him 4-wheeling?" I think I'm on the right track

You know what's hilarious, is J has said on several occasions how he can't wait until A is old enough to go four wheeling.

Any guesses on the age he's deemed appropriate? (Hint: My two and a half year old is nowhere close to hitting it yet!)

It's not one of the previous last names we recognize, or surrounding neighbors. I'll have to pay it forward somehow

You should post a pic of the card on facebook  with a message to repost and see if anyone recognizes the name or handwriting.  Then you can be one of those human interest stories on the news if anyone figures it out ;)

I went on a 4 wheeler when I was about 7, but it was on a straight paved road on private property, and I also wasn't a baby.

my tiny FFFC is yesterday I told DH I wouldn't give LO any more graham crackers, but he wouldn't leave me alone for my coffee, so I gave him one anyway.I feel guilty about it even though it's nbd.
  • @JEPES1348, I took DS out in his Ergo the other day for the first time this season and also for the first time since he's been able to walk.  We took an hour long walk and he loved it.  He did ask to get down once to check something out, but I just walked up close to it for him and he was fine with that.  It was even more fun than last year because now he's talking and he wanted to learn the words for all of the things that we saw. I passed up a great deal on a Kelty frame pack last fall because I didn't know whether he would still like to be carried this summer and now I'm kicking myself.
I'm glad to hear this! I'll be happy to have it as backup on the occasions she doesn't want to walk. She's only 10 mo old, so I can't predict shit, but I liked it, and can sell it if we don't use it.

  • I WAH, and it's only 5-10hr a week probably. When DS was little, I felt bad if I wasn't around to nurse him (bottle refuser and screamer....). Now I feel bad that I don't contribute more to our finances. There's no winning.

  • My confession: I've been feeling more and more guilty about raising M with two working parents.  So I think about cutting back to being more part time (I'm full time crammed into 4 days right now). But then we are trying to buy a house or condo and can barely afford it as is. And both of our cars are 10 years old so will need replacing soon.  But I would much rather have time with her than a house and things. And then this whole cyclical thinking gets me depressed and feeling helpless to figure something out, over and over again.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm a SAHM and I often contemplate whether that's the right choice for our family, too.  Sometimes the only consolation for being a grown up is getting to stay up as late as you want and eat Oreos before dinner ;)

You know, as long as you lock yourself in the bathroom so there's not a tiny dictator begging for you to share ;) I just switched from working part time to staying at home. I know it's right for our family, and I still question it regularly.

Both of my kids were like this. They always wanted to nurse. A pacifier kind of worked for both. But at 4 or 5 months both didn't need it.

Long story short (too late), it's not always the end of the world to give one. We just used it as a last resort, not as a constant accessory.

I was disappointed that the sposies didn't leak on our trip. L was in them while DH and the ILs were with him during my conference. I was hoping for a "CDs are way better" comment, but all I could get him to admit to is the stink. We had to close the bathroom off constantly because of the smell while the dirty CDs sat happily in the wet bag.

  • @JEPES1348 We love our SSBC. DS just turned 2 and we use it almost daily. It's a great alternative to when he doesn't want to be in the stroller and we are someplace where it's not practical or safe for him to walk. Or when we want to go for a walk someplace where the stroller can't go.

He's not, but the kid has been screaming for the graham crackers and eschewing all other foods other than yogurt for the past couple of weeks. We're in a phase. Today I got him to eat 1 bean sprout. It was a major victory.
  • @TJ1979 I never used a pacifier with DS, either, because I was so afraid it would ruin our breastfeeding relationship. Well, DS liked nursing so much that, looking back, it probably would have taken an act of God to ruin our breastfeeding relationship, LOL.  I was completely overwhelmed by his constant need to comfort nurse.  I wouldn't hesitate to use a pacifier now at all.

Thanks girls. I was so anti paci with E. And mh thinks P is doing fine and we don't need a paci right now. But I appreciate your stories and feel better now.

  • @freezorburn, that article was interesting.  That's an idea I wish so desperately I could make MH understand.  When we had to get our house ready for sale, we put DS in daycare and I worked on it full time.  I did tons of manual labor, cleaning, painting, repairing walls, installing molding, etc.  Even though it was hard physical work, I can honestly say it was way more relaxing than being at home.  I could eat whenever I wanted, I could sit down and take a break whenever I wanted, go to the bathroom undisturbed.  It felt like a vacation.

I splurged on a Tula and I have no idea if my LO will still want to be worn when she's big enough to walk and fit in the toddler tula. And I didn't get a regular print; I sprung for a fancy special order print which tacked on an extra $50.  :\">
    Ooh which did you get?
    This one!

Dr tested it, turns out it was fruit.
