  • One of the hip hop stations I listen to has "White People Wednesdays"... they play a game on Wednesday afternoons where listeners call in and try to guess whether a particular crime was commited by a white, black or other. I am really bothered by it.

    This is not very scandalous...

When we move in July I am changing my work hours and will be leaving the house around 6:15. Part of me is sick over the idea of not seeing DD before I leave in the morning. But part of me is also thrilled about being able to get dressed in peace, do my makeup without a toddler climbing into my lap and poking me in the eye with my blush brush, and only loading my own crap into the car.

ETA: This is more of a confession and I should have saved it for tomorrow. Oh well. I just had to get it out after the torturous daycare prep and drop off I had this morning.

  • Instant potatoes taste like the box they come in. Blech.

Potatoes alone are pretty bland. But doctor them up with all kinds of fattening things (butter, sour cream, cheese) and they are heavenly.

I <3 potatoes. I never used to like sweet potatoes but now I load them up with butter and brown sugar. Delish. Takes the healthy aspect of them right out the window.

I have no UO as of yet today.

That seems insensitive and odd. And what the hell is other? Anyone who's not white or black gets lumped into one big pool of "other"?

When DS was a baby, I left the house at 5:30 a.m. for work. Only having to get myself ready was pretty fabulous.

I am not sure in what class or in what format, but I think that, at some point, they are going to need to start teaching middle/high school kids internet rules, how to handle social media and what is ok/not ok.  Yes, parents should do it, but it is becoming so much a part of our professional lives too, that it needs to be addressed as many other future-job-related things are.  Maybe as part of the computer class?
Agreed. But I will tell you this - we address internet safety in our program at least 5 - 6 times a year. The kids listen and discuss it and seem to understand what we tell them. Last month, 2 students in my school were arrested for distributing child porn by forwarding texts with pics of a half naked female student.

Like many other issues, kids just don't GET IT until something actually happens to them or someone in their circle of friends that they can relate to. Or you have to reach the parents and encourage them to monitor their kids cell phone use, IG/FB/Tumbler accounts, etc. But don't get me started on engaging high school parents...

My kid is so gonna hate me when she's a teenager.
I know they won't really get and apply all of it.  We have had more conversations than I can count with both SD's about not posting revealing and inappropriate pictures on FB, being careful who they are friends with and what they post on FB, etc.  Parents have the ultimate responsibility to monitor it.
  • hahaha my dad taught me when I was in HS.

You take a tortilla (whole wheat if you are feeling fancy) lather that bitch up with peanut butter, lay a whole banana in it, roll it up, and you're on the move with your PB&B taco.
I know what I am making C and I for lunch on Saturday!

I'm jealous. I'm out at 6:15/6:30, and I still have to take C.

  • @kellersprag - Yikes. That's rough. Luckily it will be DH's responsibility to drop her off after we move. If I had to pack her up and do drop off I would need to leave way before 6. NOT HAPPENING.

It's certainly something that's talked about frequently here at the high school I work at across the board in various classes.  As a social worker, I'm having conversations with my students about this often.  Unfortunately, (and I'm not saying this rudely) teen brains don't seem to comprehend that posting these things have lasting consequences.  I will say that it's surprising to me how many parents DON'T know what their children are posting.

  • Even on weekends I sacrifice sleep in order to get up before Nancy and get ready without her. I need my time by myself and losing out on 15 minutes of sleep is 1,000% fine with me.  I get up at 530, take a shower, get ready for work, go make my lunch and get her snack then come back up at 610 and get her up, get dressed, read 3 books, brush teeth, turn off all the lights in the damn house and we're in the car by 645.

Anyone else's kid go bananas if they can't turn every single light switch on and off before leaving?  Is this a new thing?  Oy vey.  It's so bright in our house we don't need the lights in the morning, but that little girl does N O T care.

I try to do that now too - the peace and quiet is so nice!!! But my DD is a stinker. Some days she's up at 6:40 (ya know, like on weekends mostly) and sometimes sleeps until 7:45. Weird.

We had our light switch phase about 2 months ago. That seems to have passed, but now we have to try on all our shoes every day. EVERY day. On Sunday it was almost 80 degrees and she was walking around in her snow boots. Whatever, kid.

  • I wouldn't trust a guy who said he was getting divorced until I actually saw the papers. A colleague has been dating a guy for 2 years and they're about to move in together. He has three kids, constantly jerks her around, is so irresponsible (smoking pot, standing her up for dates, etc) and is still married to his second wife. They're polar opposites because she's a hard worker and a considerate person, and I'm afraid she's going to get burned.

Yes. It's insane. So, yesterday... the crime was a man stole a bunch of girls uniforms from a school, and the guys response was something like "thats some pedophile type shit... that had to be a white dude or a mexican". Turns out it was a japanese man, or what they would compilt into the group of "other".

Are you f-ing kidding me? Am I the only one listening to this crap? I couldn't believe it.

All of this essential oil stuff is bullshit and I honestly wonder about people who are swearing by it. We're actually having a session during our summer professional development days about it and I threw a fit about having to attend such nonsense.

FTR, I worked for Aveda for around 5 years.  I get that aromatherapy helps with moods and what not and that some essential oils really can help for certain things, but your essential oil is not going to cure your cold, your ear infection, repair your DNA, or stop cancer cells from growing like some of these companies are claiming.
I agree it won't cure cancer, but it has really helped our family in just the week that we have had it. The hospital I worked at did a study on how it effects mood - they diffuse oils in our emergency rooms.

My cousin dated a guy for 8 years living on his reasons for why he had to wait until this month, or that month, or until his kid was such and such age, or until he could do this or that before he could file. She finally gave up. He's still married.

Bennett has been into pushing all the light switches forever now. Thankfully he doesn't have to turn them all on but when we leave the room it must be off. I get up about 6:30 and B is up about 7:30 but I take a shower the night before.
