How long are you working for?

Just curious to see how long up until baby you all are planning on working. I am so over the whole work thing but I have no reason not to so I am going to tough it out. I feel like I worded this a bit weird but I hope you get the point (words are hard).

@taymiller - I am so with you on being over work. If I could, I would totally make this Friday my last day. That was the original plan and I'm sort of regretting extending it.

  • Working until delivery but I wish I would have ended earlier.  I'll be working from home the last week at least.  I have fear my water will break at work.  :(

  • My last day will be the day before my C-section, I am not happy about it but DH says we need the extra money (bullshit we are fine) and I have no medical reason not to (which is good but I am just not feeling the whole work thing).

  • Hoping my boss will let me Work From Home the last week as well ... I just don't see myself wanting to trudge into NYC and have to deal with the train / getting home if my water breaks or I go into labor while I'm here :)  Though, I'm sure I'll survive if I do!

I'm planning to "work" until baby comes.

How productive I'll be is up for debate.

Yes this is me, what did I decide to do this morning while "working".....make a poll and shop online for baby pants :)
  • My plan was to work until about 2 weeks prior to my due date but in January I was laid off.

Currently I'm doing part time at home freelance type stuff so I'll keep that up until delivery.

I am working until this Friday, at which point I'm just short of 39 weeks. I could have taken 2 weeks STD pre-EDD, but if baby is late I'd be unpaid for the difference. This way if he's late the second STD week covers the difference until mat leave kicks in.

  • I was going to work until 39 weeks (not returning so that date just made a smoother transition). However, I may have a c-section at 39 weeks so I'm leaving at 38. I am getting the bare minimum done as is.

  • Plan is to work up to 39; however, my replacement is doing really well and the a/c at my office is broken until the end of June, sooo I may end up going off earlier. As a Canadian, I'm eligible for a full year of mat leave, so it's NBD if I do decide to stop early - I'm just worried about being bored waiting for his arrival.

  • Planning on working til delivery... I want to use as much PTO as possible with the baby. My boss is super flexible and will allow me to work from home if need be. Andplusalso, I ditto the whole 'productive' aspect. I figure as long as I answer my phone and reply to emails... I'm golden! :)
  • Hopefully, I make it to the end of the school year. That's next Friday. I'll be 39+3.

I'm undecided, but I'll likely just suck or up and work until delivery.
  • Thursday is my last day, I'll be just about 38. I work 45 minutes from our hospital so I've been pretty freaked out about going into labor at work. Looking forward to being done!

  • As much as I don't want to be at work, I'm working until this baby pops out! Id be miserable at home and I want as much time with him after he arrives so I'll just keep trucking along.

  • Working up until delivery so that I can spend as much time snuggling my LO as possible.  If I was to go in to labor tonight, I'd have until July 20th.  I'm fortunate to get 6 weeks paid plus be able to use my leave time and extended illness benefits.

This Friday is my last day, and next Monday I'll be 36 weeks.  I said "Stop working 4 or more weeks before delivery," but really I'm stopping work 4 weeks before my EDD.  With disability benefits from my company and then FMLA overlapping with NJFLA, as long as I don't go out months before delivery, it doesn't make any difference how much time I take before LO is born, I'll still get the same amount of time after either to spend with him/her- so I'm taking full advantage!! :-)

ETA: I also really don't enjoy my job in the least bit, otherwise I might consider working a little longer just to avoid boredom, but yeah...I don't, so screw it! :-p

@JulieSmiles This is me almost exactly!  If I had it my way, I would have been done teaching a looooooong time ago this year... I am burnt out!  I am, however, a bit nervous that my water will break on one of these last days... That would be a story 7th graders would love to tell I'm sure!

  • I did SS but I guess 4+ weeks would have worked too. Around 27 weeks I went to a part time schedule. At 30-31 weeks I hit a brick wall and I was taken off entirely. With twins you only go 38 weeks if you're lucky (not 40) so I will be off work around 7 weeks before babies are here if they cooperate.

It. Is. Boring. Though I'm glad I made it as long as I did, my OB takes most twin moms off around 26 weeks and the other moms in my twins group were off around 21-24 weeks.

  • If I was having a singleton, I'd probably go out at 36 weeks. In CA you have STD coverage 4 weeks before your EDD. We have saved enough and are frugal enough to get by on just STD, and my employer doesn't pull all your PTO to make you whole unless you want to, so I still have some once STD/LTD runs out.

I intended to work unitl 38 weeks, but decided over the weekend that I will stop at 37 weeks. I commute from Long Island into NYC. My commute involves 4 min drive to the railroad station, 1 hour 14 mintue ride into Penn Station, then 2 subway trains to my job that take 20 minutes and lots and lots of stairs. The thing is the commuters are not that nice. It's hit and miss with someone offering their seat. Then with all the pushing and people dashing to get the trains, I'm so stressed out and anxious all the time that 1) I won't get a seat and 2) someone's going to bump into my belly.

I actually broke down crying on the train last week because I was first in line when the train pulled in, yet when the doors opened everyone just rushed in ahead of me so that they could get seats...but what about the pregnant lady?! I've decided that my mental health is more important than money. I'm the assistant to the owner of the company, so he's pretty flexible with me taking time off.

My last day I will be 38+6.  My commute is an hour each way and it is all I can do to get out of bed in the morning and get myself in the car.

Plus my house is a disaster so I want it completely deep cleaned before LO arrives and I really want to spend some quality time with DD, just her and I.

  • if I had a medical reason to go out early i would. While work sucks and its winding down, I'd rather save my time off for once baby is here. I worked up until my due date with #1 and went a week late. i was bored out of my skull that last week.
  • I was planning on working until delivery, but I was pulled out of work at 35 weeks.

  • I went out at 33w1d due to PTL. I worked PT at a school and my OB didn't want me doing "end of school" things like field trips and packing/cleaning. Luckily, I didn't make much to begin with and won't be going back to work for the the foreseeable future, so 4 weeks less pay wasn't making a huge deal.

I give major props to anyone still working at this point... I'm on modified rest and still miserable.
  • I'm 36+3 and this is my first day out of work. Unpaid of course but I def have had it. My chiro put me out due to my back issues but my OB wouldn't sign the papers. He told me to apply for FMLA if I wanted to stop early, but since my family depends on me for health insurance that's a no. My job had been sympathetic but not exactly supportive in easing my workload so while I may have been able to go in this week, I know it's for the best.

  • Our school year ends 6/6 so I will be working until the last day. Hard to find motivation these last few weeks. At least I will have until the end of the month to "nest" since I am a late June bumpie.
  • Plan is to work from home the week before my due date. If the Doc appts leading up to that week say otherwise, then hopefully no more than working from home for 2 weeks before my due date.

Despite how uncomfortable it is to go into the office already, I feel like two weeks working at home without the baby here yet would make me a little stir crazy (especially since I'll be so huge and tired it's not like I can clean or go out or anything much without needing to rest.)

Shout out to the Mamas on bed rest, I can only imagine how hard it must be to be restricted, even if you're not feeling well enough to do much else. Cabin fever is the worst! (I live in an apartment too, I don't have a big house or yard to relax in.)

Elsa, What do you think of a person who only does the bare minimum?

I feel you on the stairs and the subway rudeness, although I'm in Queens so my commute is much shorter. I think I get lucky because I tend not to have to ride the trains during rush hour too. I also support our company President who is also flexible and I've been coming in later, closer to 11 and leaving later, it makes a huge difference for me.

Working till delivery or till we are 41 weeks! Which ever comes first, my OB doesn't want me going past that!
