Last Minute To Do's

I'm going crazy trying to get everything ready for baby. We have two weeks left and there are a lot of things that in a perfect world I'd love to get done before LO arrives in order to make our postpartum life a little easier. Thought we could share what's on our "To Do" lists in order to help keep each other sane and maybe add things to our own lists that we never would've thought of. Annnnnnnnd go...

Well I have a long list of stuff to get done. Still need to get paint for baby room, paint room, set up baby room, clean the house, get my bag ready, get stuff from my aunt, wash baby clothes, get my daughter a new tiwn bed move the crib into baby's room. I know I have more to add to the list but can't think of it right know. I just keep telling myself one thing at a time and everything will get done. I been trying to do little by little each day. This week I was able to get a lot of stuff crossed off that I could do during the week so I am hoping I can get stuff done this weekend after my daughters dance class and working tomorrow. Good luck everyone hope you all are able to get stuff done.

Ha! I have way more on my list but remembered halfway through posting that when I'm mobile bumping it never seperates my lines like I want it to and I didn't want a gigantic paragraph of mumbo jumbo to pop up. That'll stress me out. Perhaps I have OCD. Lol.
  • We're working on some of this today, since I really need DH to do most of the list!

    - Returns, go shopping for few last minute things (more yoga capris, food for freezer meals)
    - Make another few freezer meals and granola bars
    - Have hubby pick up his crap in the dining room
    - Have hubby pick up my crap in the craft room lol
    - Hang decorations in nursery
    - Deep clean carpets and have housekeeper come by
    - Pack some snacks for hospital stay
    - Hubby needs to pack his bag
    - Get mani/pedi and hair done done
    - Put pillows, BFing pillow, cooler with snacks, etc in the car when we get closer

To be honest though I'm at the point where even if this stuff didn't get done, wed be ok.

  • I was just making a mental list in the middle of the night when I couldn't sleep. Of course now I can't remember most of it.

    -hang bookshelves in nursery
    -pack hospital bag
    -put together baby swing
-buy a few baby toiletry odds and ends (like gas drops)
    -clean the house
-install car seat bases in our vehicles

and that's all I can remember.

I am woefully behind when it is "recommended" that a twin mama do these things...
-pack my hospital bag (I keep wanting to wear the clothes I intend to pack because they are comfy.)
-add diapers to the baby bag.
-adjust carseat straps so they are newborn ready.
    -clean out car.
-pack a go bag for DS and DD.
-get over this damn cold/sinus mess and get my voice back!
-hang pictures in nursery (not necessary, but I just want to finish).

@MrsKipper‌ - OMG your list makes m want to cry, I can't believe you are moving so close to your due date, best of luck with that!

Yea the timing isn't ideal, but we're in no rush to get out of our house since it doesn't close until July, so really we could take our time if we needed to. It'll be tricky, though, and we're going to have to be very flexible.

We have a couple of big things going on - DH is in the middle of painting the porch & deck, trying to sell/buy a new car and I'm throwing my sister's bridal shower in June 1st.

Those are the things that are stressing me out, TBH. The other stuff isn't too bad:

    -bring dog to vet
-ask neighbors' housecleaner if they'll come do a good cleaning before baby
    -install car seat
    -put together bassinet
    -send some thank you notes
    -order breast pump
-do a couple of good food shopping trips - our cupboards are bare

Not too bad, right? I have about 5 weeks, hopefully. Like I said, it is the other stuff that is killing me. Mostly that porch and deck!

    - Finish hospital bag
    - Pack entertainment bag for hospital for the kids
    - Get out bassinet/bouncers/swing and clean them
    - Get clean sheets on everyone's beds
    - Last deep cleaning of the house (Every time it's clean enough to relax, it's ruined again by the next day. Should I even bother?)
    - Pedicure

I also have to do things like boil and sanitize bottle nipples, pacifiers, and pump parts, but I'm not planning on using any of those right away so I'll probably wait until after baby for that.

I should also bug DH to pack a bag, in case, but the plan is for him to sleep home with the big kids.

Pack hospital bag and shop for easy snacks.  I shopped for snacks last week, but I ate them already!

I've been hiding snacks & sides that I'll use for some of the freezer meals from myself. I thought it would be out of sight, out of mind but let me tell you...they are NOT out of mind. Lol. DH may have to hide them from me.

I fortunately don't have much left to do, because so much was done last weekend.  I just need to get snacks for DH and have him pack a bag of clothes.  Need to clean up the house.  Need to finish shower thank you cards and get them in the mail by Monday.  Will put the swing together today too.  Baby will be here within 2 weeks, not much longer to go!

    clean/sanitize bottles/pacis etc

    build pnp

    maybe make some freezer meals

    I second @lalala8, EVERYTHING! Yikes!
  • today is freezer meal day part 1. other than that just need to get some extra little things (nursing pads, new lanolin, nothing outrageous) and take the pile of stuff for the hospital bag and actually put it in the bag.

Sounds a lot like my list!

Most important is to clear out the room he's going in (currently guest room) and get everything in there!  We have the crib from our daughter and we bought a new dresser and bedding, but there's still other furniture in there.  I want to paint, but it's not essential.

I should also probably dig out my nursing bras and things I'll want for the hospital/after birth sometime soon :P  Our daughter was late, but I have this feeling her baby brother is not waiting until 40 weeks!

  • Buy nursery furniture and bedding.

Get cradle, swing and carseat out of attic and cleaned.

Wash and sort 11 trash bags' worth of clothes.

    Buy diapers.

    Order breast pump.

As y'all can see, I have literally not done a single thing. DH's job has been slow so we have been broke and therefore have not bought a single thing. Literally. She is being delivered June 12th, LOL. Anyone else completely ill-prepared? Or am I the sole slacker?

My list mostly consists of just cleaning and organizing our apartment.  I finished our last rounds of shopping for essentials last week, so we have everything we should need for baby.  Now it's just a matter of finding places for everything!!

And organizing cupboards, scrubbing floors, washing blinds, etc. Possibly rent a steam vacuum.

OH and I still need to mentally prepare for labor and delivery.  Yikes!
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • @MrsCase1, I have also done nothing. As in, still have to put the crib together and figure out a car seat, and THEN do everything else. Like order sheets for the crib.

This thread made me start laughing in a crazed, panicked sort of way...

I can do everything in 6 weeks, right? (I'm with @yellowbird219, I'm going to go ahead and assume I get all 6 weeks.)

  • LKHoffaLKHoffa member
@MrsKipper‌ I'm with you! Close on new house May 28th, move in May 29th, be out of our apartment and have it cleaned by 4 pm on May 30th. Clean new house, clean carpets in new house, etc. my due date is June 8th, so you win though! On the plus side...my car seat is installed?! :-p
  • Hmmm let's see:

    1. Pack my bag
    2. Pack hubby's bag
    3. Finish washing baby crap
    4. Clean the baby room so I can actually walk in it
    5. Get blinds and make curtains for baby room
    6. Install car seat base
    7. Wash dogs
    8. Clean..pretty much the entire house
    9. Freezer meals still need to be made

Blah. I don't feel like doing any of it...
  • I'm jealous of anyone that can say they have a "last minute" list. I still have 6 weeks before this baby gets here (or longer!). I don't have a lot to do though...Nursery is ready, gear is all put together, and all my registry stuff is bought. And we do have to finish our labor classes!

    - Install car seat and inspect
    - Take breastfeeding class
    - Take first aid and newborn CPR class
    - Buy a few things for labor bag (dermoplast, more pads, witch hazel)
    - 2 or 3 more freezer meals
    - Buy snacks from trader joes for labor
    - TDAP next week
    - Take dogs to vet and groomers so we don't have to worry about them for a little while

  • @CAMag‌ yes, DH is just like that.  We don't have anything done and he's worried about putting in new outdoor lighting and blinds.  I pointed out that those can really happen anytime, however buying a carseat probably needs to happen really really soon.

I will make everyone feel better with my list:
    • Name our child.
    • Buy and install the carseat.
    • Assemble and learn to use the stroller (seriously, it's still in the box).
    • Buy and wash newborn clothing.
    • Buy other stuff we probably really need, such as PNP sheets and a crib.  Oh, maybe assembling the PNP would be a good idea too.
    • Pack bags for the hospital... actually, on Thursday my OB told me to be ready in two weeks.
    • Ideally, finish at least painting the nursery so that we can remove the tarps and use the furniture in there.
    • Many of you mentioned things like hair, mani-pedis, and waxing.  These are the things I actually have standing appointments for anyway, and will therefore manage to get done unless LO surprises me early.
What I'm not even planning on getting done:
    • The nursery beyond the painting.  The artwork, etc. will have to wait.
    • Deep cleaning the house.  LO will have to get used to our ordinary level of cleanliness.  It's pretty decent.
    • Freezer meals.  DH won't eat stuff I freeze anyway, and I know I'm not going to get around to it.

  • @CAMag - Yes! DH decided that this weekend he had to rescreen our back porch... A project that he's left halfway done for the past two years, but it HAD to get done this weekend. I gave him a list of baby-prep tasks that I can't do at this point that took him a total of an hour to finish this morning, and he complained about it all day long - how he doesn't give me to-do-lists, etc.

I was sure to mention everything I've been doing in my two page baby-prep list, not to mention the past 9 months of growing the baby, and what I'll do to get her here, but yes, those 5 tasks were really a lot to ask! Ugh, sorry, sore subject today!

  • @CAMag‌ H is like that. H thinks cleaning the garage and yard work are the pressing matters. He doesn't seem to understand my need to have everything clean and the nursery done.

    My list:
    - find pediatrician (I seriously need to get this done!)
    -find diaper bag
-finish the last details in the nursery, just hanging things
    - make padsicles
    - prepare some freezer/dump meals
    - deep clean my room
    - take dog to groomer
    - clean and organize guest room

Holy guacamole that's a long list! Good thing I have a long weekend this week and next!

  • @CAMag  DH is the same way.  He's been spending a lot of time fixing his motorcycle.  Today he spent most of the day putting new brakes on my sister's car. Fortunately most of the big stuff is done.

    About 3 weeks to go:

    Name the baby
Choose pediatrician (thanks to whoever mentioned this on their list! I'd forgotten)
    Buy newborn diapers
    Install car seat
    Finish packing hospital bag
    Finish and hang nursery decor
Buy sheets for pack n play and other registry completion items
Buy items for labor and post postpartum (chapstick, witch hazel, popsicles)
Research and decide if we add baby to my health insurance or DHs
    Get cars inspected
    Research 529 plans for baby
Make a will and determine who we want to take custody of LO
Get spare house key to the person who will watch our dog
    Finish thank you notes
    Clean house
    Possibly make freezer meals

  • @CAMag my DH started a new project the beginning of this month when he just started back at work. He bought a piece of land (escrow closes next Friday). He has to get everything hooked up: water, electric, septic, propane. As well as putting up a fence and shed with a washer/dryer. We live in our RV right now and building a house. It's awesome...but I'm due in 4 weeks and he works full time.

  • We have done a lot but I just keep adding to the list...

    -shampoo carpets
    -costco for disposable dishware
    -paint nursery/hang decor
    -assemble crib
-Trader Joe's for frozen meals (I give up on thinking I'm making any)
    -clean out freezer
-install car seat and have it inspected
    -assemble pack and play
    -shower thank you's
-pack hospital bag (everytime we go to do it I run out of energy)

    I love lists
  • - deep Clean Everything (possibly call a maid service)
    - continue making freezer meals
    - get a chest freezer for the garage (for the freezer meals)
    - install new smoke detectors
    - shower Thank you's
    - finish packing hospital bag
    - make padsicles
    - call insurance about a breast pump
    - attend breastfeeding and CPR class
    - Hang name letters in the nursery

  • Ummm... Pretty much all the things... Lots of inventory from our showers... Pack a bag, put together RNP, install car seat, clean stuff, finish nursery, thank you's (like over 100), get a glider, freezer meals, return some stuff, buy all the stuff for my hoo-ha and boobies, buy registry items... Mostly just make myself do stuff. I'm only nesting occasionally, and work is insane, andplusalso I'm tired.
  • I got about 10 posts in before I started to have anxiety...is it too late to go back?

Maybe tomorrow I'll get some things crossed off my own list- #1 and 2- pre-register for hospital and get a pediatrician/family doctor.

  • Yeah... on team NEED TO DO EVERYTHING!

We are first up to clearing out the 2nd bedroom. I'm trying to impress upon DH that I can really only work 10 minutes on a time before my back says "yeah... let's be immobile." We need to re-do the floor, paint, clear out our closet, cry about all the things that will never get done.

In the Jewish tradition that we follow, we won't have anything baby-related in the house unless there is a baby there to need it. So there's that.

Being with my LO rocks! DD born 6/13/14.
