I just enthusiastically greeted the COO and HR lady... right before they walked in to fire my neighbor. I am pretty enthusiastic, and somehow have managed to greet or say something stupid to people right when they're being let go several times.

It's pretty funny and at least you aren't on the chopping block. I once congratulated a guy who was demoted, I didn't realize it because we got emails announcing his new position. I thought it was a promotion, but he was basically moved to a closet and had all his power taken from him. Ha, and there I was shaking his hand saying "congrats on the new position!"

I have this knack you speak of. I am also good for speaking loudly right when the conversation in a room hits a lull and it gets quiet. Every. Time.

I've told a woman that she looks great after she lost a bunch of weight from a sickness.

I've side-eyed the parent at a park that let their child fall off the jungle gym while playing unsupervised to the parent of said child.

I once made the comment, "who comes up with this crap?" in reference to a cheesy mailer I was folding and envelope stuffing to the director of marketing at a company I just got a job with.

I think I'm pretty much socially awkward unless I've had a few drinks in me. Then I get pretty funny.
