I knew I'd get flamed for putting the spanking comment, I even tried to put it light heartedly, and what I mean by that is I don't know if I'll spank or not, but I don't care if others do.
As for the multiple kids comment...no I don't, but that has no basis here. I hope and pray that I can raise my son to accept life's disappointments in a more mature way. That boy was clearly not a three year old, and way too old to be having a melt down like that, IMO. it's obvious his behavior is accepted based in the parents reactions and how long they let it go on. It was like it was NBD that the child was saying he hated girls, and they were stupid. Those are two words that will be 'no-no' words in our household.
Oh, and it will be another miracle if we are able to give DS a sibling, so
he would definitely know how much a blessing any child is, no matter the "gender."

Oh give me a break. Good ole Timmy, is being a kid who for a hot second, was sad about not having a brother after already having two sisters. Way to emphasize that this is obviously is the parents' fault when it was a pure reaction of a child which I can surely say he got over in an hour or two. But yes, let's condone 'spanking' him for his initial reaction to a surprise because that is the best way to tell them 'no'. Both of you clearly dont have older children. They react, have temper tantrums and act like assholes for a short time; all of them, even the ones whose parents..gasp...said no.
Lol. I am no expert but I saw my own child's reaction to a sibling . It happens, this boy's reaction was just that-a reaction. Raising three sisters or whatever has no basis or meaning in this conversation. That boy's reaction was completely normal and clearly does not deserve any type of corporal punishment which is what your friend thought was appropriate. This is one of those things that you really have no clue about until it comes; just like you had this idea about pregnancy, your birth and newborn, etc. Kids are assholes, this kid's reaction is normal and healthy. I can assure you that your daughter will tell you multiple times that she hates boys, you talk to her, she gets over it, then hates them again. The ignorance that this is actually normalcy is what is annoying
The video is funny, it really is. I can bet a lot of the women on here with older kiss dealt with this at one point or another. Bottom line- to pull this card again- you truly don't know how your kids will react until you are there.
And I love how you seem appalled at my spanking comment, yet you repeatedly refer to kids as 'assholes'.
And, my point is not about the spanking, but since you keep bringing it up I'll add that:
I'm pretty sure I could care less that I got a few spankings as a kid, but I'd be forever hurt if either of my parents called me an a-hole.

Lol, reading comprehension is the least reaction I have to this ridiculous conversation. Your incredible lack to follow this conversation and understand the mere point of my post was that singling out this kid for his reaction; and subsequent comment on the parenting, was an ignorant mockery of a normal child. Just spank them it will set us all free.

Oh, and my kids? They're never assholes. My vocabulary is wide enough to describe their behavior in more eloquent terms.

These are teaching moments, but they don't come in the middle of the tantrum. It's after, once they've cried/screamed out everything they need to get out, then calmed down, you can have a one-on-one sit down to guide them how to handle disappointment the next time.
Dude, while a lot has to do with parenting, this IS a kid being a kid. They are not adults, cannot expect them to behave like adults.

Wait, how does she KNOW what is normal if the kid in the video is older than 3 1/2? I thought that was impossible. YOU JUST CAN'T KNOW!!!!!

Oh come on, the kid had a temper tantrum! I guarantee you that even if you teach your child right from wrong, she will still have a reaction like this to something one day. So judging these parents (and the kid for that matter) from one clip is kinda shitty.
Should they have posted the video? Probably not! I am just saying good kids have tantrums too
My mom stayed with him while the babies were being born and was the one to tell him that he had 2 brothers.
His first reaction was , "no grandma I have a sister" then when my mom told him that God gave him 2 brothers instead of a sister he says "so my sister has a penis !?!?!?"
Then he told my dad that he had 2 brothers and they both have a penis.
Really wish we would har recorded those conversations!
