1st Trimester

Exercising before your first visit to Dr.

I have been doing a bootcamp and spin class for quite a while now. I know most advice says you can continue normal activity but I'm a little nervous since this class is so intense. Is it okay to continue until I go to my first appt and talk to the dr about it? I have two weeks until then and don't really want to stop that long but I'm nervous!! Any advice?

  • Keep with whatever you are used to. Don't push yourself to hard and drink a lot of water.

  • My OB takes a "Listen to your body" approach to exercise. If you're use to spinning and boot camp classes then you should be safe to continue with them. I know women who've run marathons while pregnant. Keep hydrated and I would bring a snack with you to class. Listen to your body and slow down if needed.

    I do crossfit and run.  I am still doing all the same stuff (in fact I ran in a race this past weekend).

    The only thing I'd check with is the instructor at the gym... I know I was certified and teaching a program called GRIT thats a HIIT workout, similar to a bootcamp, and its one contraindication for participation was pregnancy.  Literally couldn't allow a pregnant person in the class, and instructors werent allowed to be pregnant... now thats not saying it's proven unsafe or anything, but there are some things that are safer than others.  The biggest concern is really overheating your core temp and dehydration.
