Middle names

DH and I are completely stuck with choosing a middle name. Every name I suggest he knew someone he didn't like with that name or has some other reason. He won't throw any names in the ring either. Driving me crazy!! How did you and DH come to agree on your LO's middle name? Did you pick a family name or just a name you both liked?

We follow Jewish tradition in naming, in which we honor a relative who has passed. So when we named M, her first and middle names both honored a different relative - either by taking the first letter of the relative's name and picking a name we liked, or finding another connection to that person. It narrowed down the field for us (for example, this time around, we are only considering A, S, and Y names for both first and middle name), and then we are just working ourselves until we agree.

No magic bullet here - sorry - just thought I'd share.

We're just using my middle name. I tried to think of a relative whose name we'd like to use but none of their names would go well with her first name.

Our first has my husbands middle name as his middle name, if we ever have a girl she will have my middle name as a middle name..since this one is another boy I just gave my husband 2 options I liked and luckily he likes them too

Family names here. Our son will have DF's father's name. If we were having a girl, she would have my middle name, which is also my grammy's middle name.

She's getting a variant of my grandmother's name, my grandma passed away in 2011, shortly before I got engaged. If it were a boy he would've had DH's grandfather's last name (it's a last name with a lot of neat history behind it) as a middle name. I wanted to hyphenate this LOs middle name like mine is but DH wasn't for it.

I don't really have a formula for middle name. DD1 is Lorelei Rose. We chose Rose because it was simple and went well with a slightly different first name. We also had a lot of roses with special meaning at our wedding.

DS is Asher Allen. Allen is DH's name, and has been in his family for generations. That one was a no-brainer.

The twins are Margot Elise and Audrey Marie. Marie is a family name, and I just think Elise is pretty and softens Margot. I also like its meaning. Backup MN to Marie is Grace, because I just have been learning a lot about God' grace lately.

I know this is not particularly helpful to you, but all that is to say that some of our MNs had planning and meaning and some just went with the FN. The MN is not as important.

We went with family names. Henry is DH's grandfather's name and Michael is both of our fathers' name. I liked that his name has meaning rather than just some name that has no connection to either of us.

We went with a family name, with a tweak. My Dad is James, but DH wouldn't go for James since I dated a James before we met. Therefore, MN is Jameson. In all honesty, I would have LOVED Jameson as his FN. Sidenote: I lost my Mom 19 years ago, so honouring my Dad was not not going to happen. Period.

we actually agreed on a MN way sooner than a first name - I guess ours would be family name?
David is my dad's FN, DH's dad's MN, and the FN of a man who is a second father to me.
hopefully once we share the families will feel the same way

and as a side note, the guy I dated before I met DH was actually named David as well, but I don't think that matters in the least as it's a pretty common name.

We're just using DH's mn for this LO... we kinda compromised since I picked the first name... which we did agree on, but I liked it more than he did. And he's always wanted to use apart of his name for one of our sons, which I didn't like at first (which is why DS1 doesn't have either of his names). But this time around I guess I didn't care as much... naming humans is harder than it should be.

My hubs was getting so irritated with me on the MN search he insisted we don't give her one. We ended up agreeing on our first choice so she's Charlotte Memphis. Her MN is not for the city but rather one if our favorite movie characters. It only occurred to us later that we gave her a name that's two southern cities.

For those of you who don't have a name picked out just thought I'd share that with our first baby we didn't have a name picked out until a week before he was born (he was a week late) and it was the most perfect name for him... So don't worry, you guys will pick amazing names.

We picked a name we both liked. We're very agreeable with names though, so the hardest part for us is just choosing from our list.

Our daughters first and middle names are both of our mother's middle names... So yes, we used a family name.

If we were having a boy his middle name would have been Joseph, My fathers middle name was Joseph and he passed away 10 yrs ago and my hubby's middle name was Joseph so that would have worked perfect!!

We are having a girl and I just suggested my middle name and hubby was cool with it. Ironically his sister and her two kids both have the same middle name. I was born on my cousins bday so that is how I got my middle name ( Lynn) nothing fancy!!!

Our kiddos' middle names are both family names. DS has DH's mom's maiden name as his middle name, and this LO will have the masculine form of my mom's name. Both of our mom's have passed away in the time we've been together, so it was important for us to honor them.

All my children's first name start with k and only have 5 letters and all their middle names are way longer 8-9 letters. I actually did not do this intentionally!

The MN is the only thing that is set. It's combines his favorite aunt that passed years ago and and his cousin/best friend. The alternative was my grandmother's middle name.

Her middle name will be Elizabeth, which is also my middle name. Its after my great-grandmother and all the girls on our side of the family have Elizabeth as their MN. I like tradition. Our firstborn son (if we ever have one) will have my husbands middle name as his as well.

We use family names as middle names.

DD's MN is Evelyn after my paternal grandmother.

Pipsqueak's MN will either be Timothy after DH's late father or Adele after my paternal great-grandmother.

For DS1, we gave him both of our father's names. The tradition in his family was to give the first born son the father's name, but his brother had already named his kid that and honestly we didn't like the name. And since he was getting FIL's name as a middle name, I wanted to include my dad's name as well.

For DS2, we settled on a name we all liked. Middle name had been set, it was his first name that we went back and forth on.

Our LO's middle name is my mother's middle name. We didn't want to use my mom's first name because it just doesn't flow at all with the FN we have picked out for LO.

My husband's mother passed away many years ago, and we just found out this past weekend at my shower that his mother's middle name was the same one we are using for LO as well! She had it legally changed later in her life for some reason, but on her birth certificate it says the middle name that LO will share with her and my mom. So it worked out perfectly!

We keep tossing middle names around and can't seem to agree on anything except that it has to be two syllables or less (more would be a mouthful in conjunction with the the first and last names). We also want it to be more "normal" since the first name is a bit unique.

Last night I resorted to writing the full names out and the aesthetics eliminated a couple right away. DH is a little leery of my favorite because it's his own MN and he's not a "legacy kind of guy" but I'm still hoping to win him over.

DH and FIL's first name is DS's name (my alternative to making him a third), and for our other two, we chose family names, as well. DD #1's middle name is the name of my grandmother's sister and was also DH's grandfather's aunt's name. DD #2's middle name will be the English version of my mother's name. Her first name isn't so definite yet, however!

Our LO is named after a tv character (no shame!) with a nature-y and pretty unique name and we wanted to stick with that for her MN. So I told DH to pick a flower name that he liked. He decided on Daisy.
