  • @SomersIsles‌ you will love them once you switch! I was so nervous when we ran out of disposables and I was going to be using cloth full time! I started with just the day than went full time so I wasn't so overwhelmed. Good luck :)

  • @kirotea‌ I sympathize. It feels like there's never a perfect answer when you have an alcoholic parent. My dad put us through the wringer too many times to count, and I honestly wasn't able to forgive him or realize that I really loved him until he passed away. I hope your MIL finds the motivation to clean up, if not for her sake, then for the sake of her family. ♡

  • @SomersIsles‌ I suggest making the switch before you run completely out of disposables. You'll be less scared knowing you have some back up. And even after 2 years of CDing I usually have a couple of disposables on hand for when I *cough cough* DH forgets to wash the diapers.

    Good idea!
  • @kirotea‌ my dad didn't clean up until we all stopped trying to help. When he had NO ONE to turn to, he finally found the strength and resolve to fix himself.

  • *hugs* @kirotea‌. I think your H's idea of waiting a yr to talk to his mom sounds is smart. That's got to be so hard for you guys. I hope she can turn things around.

My aunt keeps asking me every day what the baby is doing and now before I can even answer, she says oh let me guess she's sleeping in a snarky way..... EVERY single day. She also gets frustrated when she sees her and all she is doing is sleeping.

I've explained she's a newborn and that's she is going to nap. I mean is my baby behind, should she be out running in the yard by now?! I'm getting annoyed.

My grandma does the SAME thing. "Oh, she's sleeping AGAIN?" "are you just going to let her sleep all day?". She's a BABY. She needs to nap. Sorry every time you see her is her usual Naptime. And no, you canNOT wake her up!

  • I just can't with the tech I'm working with tonight (and last night). He's been here since before I came back from maternity leave so well over 4 weeks, and is still completely incompetent. Probably because he doesn't listen to a damn thing anyone says. I'm so frustrated right now I could go off on him. But I won't, I'll just rant here instead and binge on a Big Mac and mcflurry when I get off in a half hour.

@WisconsinCheese12‌ is that with Jason Statham?

If it's what I think it is I liked that movie
  • Random question... When everyone says their child is sleeping a certain # of hours at night (before the first wake up) are y'all referring to the actual length of shut eye... Or the span between feeds? I've been referring to span between feeds... But not actual shut eye. Just curious

Span between feeds...but mine never really opens her eyes or fully wakes up.

  • Overnight, he goes back to sleep relatively quickly most of the time the time isn't that far off. But I watch time between feeds.

Hmmm ok well then I guess my LO isn't sleeping as well as I thought. During the day he had a good schedule of eat... Stay awake and "play" for 45min to an hour... Then nap for 2 to 3 hours. His last feed before bed he... Kinda sorta does the same. He'll eat, chill for 45 min, but then he'll sleep for 4 hours.

If he has this eat/play/sleep routine... How on earth is he suppose to get the clue that the routine is suddenly different at night??

    Back to square one...

Eta: for some reason he does typically conk out immediately following his MOTN feed
  • @FarmBoysWife‌ I'm sorry. :( Honestly, that's why I do in-home daycare. I had to leave DS starting at 2 weeks old to finish college and I just couldn't do it again when my maternity leave ended. There are things about doing daycare that are tough, but at the end of the day, I get to be home with my babies.

Ethan goes from 8pisb to 4amish. But he does "wake" a bit but never enough to need food. It sounds like yours in developing his routine (like Ethan stores at 10 every night, that was the first motn feeding he dropped) but he's not ready to sttn. And 6 hours is considered sttn, not 8. So you're getting there!

Also I think your lo is a monthish behind some of ours? So maybe your expectations are based on different babies of an unequal age?
That's probably part of the problem lol... So many have of you guys have older babies! LO is 1 month today :)

Not only am I so A type... But sleep has always been a huge issue for me. I have always slept sooooo deeply and waking up in the morning is such a struggle for me. I'm a true night owl. So I get crazy anxiety at night when LO shows any signs of giving me a difficult night.

I'm jealous of those of you who feed the bedtime feed and then the baby conks out. When does that start?? lol
  • I'm thinking of getting my etsy site up and running again. Cause you know, I can totes live off crafting. Right?

I love etsy. Actually I'm addicted.
  • Good luck tomorrow @FarmBoysWife‌ !!

Working moms: Does anyone else's LO scream at you when you get home from work? Jackson does this for a couple minutes usually but tonight he was inconsolable for like a half hour.

My mom keeps saying he's teething, but not cutting teeth. He's 12 weeks old. Thoughts? No fever and mildly drooly.
  • Peachy.

I thought I might have to give my cat up for adoption... Then my daughter shit on me... A spider tried to jump up my vagina... Kyo went missing... I walked through a massive puddle trying to find my fur baby... And now I'm just too tired to do anything other than feed Mia and get us both in bed...

    Greatest. Day. Ever.

We have always done eat, activity, sleep. During the night, I don't engage him for activity, I don't even talk to him. He just eats and goes straight back into bed.

When you say goes streight back to bed, are you referring to after the bedtime feed? Or after the MOTN feed?

I'm currently nursing him (it's 1am) for his first MOTN feed and I'm fairly confident he'll pass out after eating as he usually does. Earlier, however, at 9:15 when it was bedtime... He was wide awake until 10:30. There was no chance of putting him in his swaddle and bassinet right away. He seemed very ready for his awake time.

Do most people skip the awake time when it's bedtime and actually succeed?

PS. Good luck @FarmBoysWife‌ !! I can't imagine going back to work yet... I hope the work day flies by without a problem so you can get back to cuddle time where you belong :)
  • @somersisles Jack is usually awake after his "bedtime" feed around 7-8. He is awake for a shorter time though, and if he eats early (at like 630 or 7) I will usually try to top him off with a few ounces if he isn't down by 9. At that point he will conk out after eating.

My LO has a hard time understanding it is actually night time until we side lay nursing. It is so weird it's like he knows once momma lays down to feed him that it must be time for everyone to sleep. I still burp him and put him in his bassinet like any other time of day, but for some reason he recognizes the change in nursing positions as being his cue for nighttime.
  • M has had very few awake sessions overnight. I don't know if it's the dark & quiet that does it. But he usually gies right back out. And rarely ever does that during the day.

My random-I finally ordered announcements. Everything should be here Friday so they can go out on Monday and get to people before he hits 2 months. I'm cool with that.

How old is your LO now? How many hours until he wakes up again?

I keep saying how I look forward to when LO is older and some of these hurdles are over... Then I realize new hurdles will surely begin. lol. Parenting is no joke

I do. I make more from selling on Etsy than I did working full time. Way more. If you know how to do it right and are selling things that are hot, you could make a living off of it
That's the problem...I make art dolls. Not exactly a hot commodity. I'm thinking of starting to make kid's toys though. And maybe diapers and nursing covers. Just have to get my craft room set up!
I had an Etsy store and made some side income. I wish I could re open and do it full time but there is NO way I could make everything and take care of the baby. I can barely find time to make cards now :(

@SomersIsles‌ sometimes at bedtime he's not tired (like last night) so he may lay in my arms awake for 30 mins or so after his last bottle. I don't talk to him or anything, I just hold him and wait for him to yawn or something then it's straight to bed.
Just cause he's awake doesn't mean activity, you don't "play" after the bath.

I then swaddle him and lay him in bed and was waiting in his room for him to go to sleep, but have found it's easier to leave and watch him on the video monitor so he isn't looking at me, fighting sleep.

He went to bed at 10pm last night (he wasn't tired at 930 so I held him for a bit) then woke me at 530 for milk, we just finished the feeding and I lay him back down at 6 and he wiggled for a few mins before going back to sleep :) so I'm gonna try get another hour or so!

    That's encouraging!
  • @FarmBoysWife‌ and all the other mamas going back to work today, good luck and I hope everything goes well!

  • When I sanitize my pump parts by boiling them, a filmy substance winds up on the parts/bottles when they dry. Does anyone else run into this? How do you prevent it/is there a better way to sanitize than just boiling?

The medela steam bags leave all my parts crystal clear
  • Paging @pepperedmoth were you the one in the zen thread or end of the monthers thread who mentioned LOs gut flora being affected by mom getting IV antibiotics during labor for + GBS? Or anyone else know anything about it? LO is just so spitty/choky/gassy and I remember someone mentioning this. So I'm looking for any literature about any correlation.

  • Colton didn't let me sleep more than 2 hours in a stretch last night and I only got 1 of those. I am exhausted :( I think he may be starting the 6 week growth spurt a little early...

I was on antibiotics for about 3 weeks due to mastitis so I gave my baby probiotics I got at Walgreens. It's a powder for kids and the pharmacist told me it was fine for baby, so I put it in his bottle once a day (breast milk). I can't say I noticed a huge difference in gassiness but I think he still benefits from it.

Mom to 5 wonderful kids: 18ds, 15ds, 13ds, 11dd and baby boy! Why get old when you can get pregnant?
