DD gets the mail, feeds the dog too, vacuums, washes her clothes, dust, sweep, set table, packs her lunch

I plan on teaching DS this summer. Should have done this yrs ago. Plus he will be ironing his own clothes starting this upcoming school. No more uniforms for HS. So DH will be teaching how to iron.

I started teaching M to do her own laundry when I found out I was pregnant with E.

    DAMN IT!!!! lolol

  • Well FWIW I haven't taught her to iron yet. Or cook. Mostly because she's a klutz and I'm terrified she'll burn herself.

The good thing about our cleaning schedule. Whatever I don't get to - SO hits up on Sat mornings cause his ass wakes up at 5am like a weirdo.

I think this is what gets me. My DH works so much. He helps when he can but I mostly need him outside doing stuff around the house. I do have a cleaning lady that come every two weeks. I just feel so unorganized.

  • I also make DS breakfast on Sun for Mon-Wed. I usually scramble 4-6 eggs, 4 hash browns, sauseges and take out bagels and/or muffins from freezer. I repeat on Wed for Thurs & Fri. .  And yogurt & fresh fruit is available everyday with breakfast. He really should be doing this himself. But.......

I just buy M Eggos, and we always have fruit and cereal. She's not much of a breakfast eater anyway.

    @PeanutButterFox

DS takes medicine for ADHD. He is really finicky about school lunch If he does not get decent breakfast he will have a headache. Another reason why I can't let go.... ugh!

Thanks for reminding me. I need more Eggos.... :)

  • Some of you ladies are like WOW originized.  I just do it as I go, as I have time, as it needs.  I don't really know how else to explain it.  Theres no schedule in place because with 3 active kids something will always come up that trumps toilets getting cleaned every Tuesday (or whatever).  Everyone pitches in, & everyone has a job (even the 2 year old knows to bring his plate to the sink when hes done).  My house is a mess any given day of the week, but could also be picked up & clean in 15-20 minutes. I have nearly 3500 sq ft, 5 bedrooms, 4 baths, 3 kids, another on the way, plus DH, a dog & cat.  I can not possibly keep it all clean at once!  I keep cleaning supplies handy in every bath room & if the toilet needs cleaned, I take 2 minutes & clean it.  If the counter needs wiped, I take 2 minutes & wipe it. If the tub needs scrubbed, I take 5 minutes & scrub it....You get it.  If your looking for clean baseboards & spit shine floors, you won't find them in my house, but we keep things sanitary, we pick up toys, we load/unload the disherwasher/washer/dryer daily, we sweep/mop/vaccuume as needed.  I am usually the 1st one up & last one down every day.  Once the kids are in bed I try to catch up whatever really needs done that got skipped over that day.

Every once in a while, I will send DH off with the kids & spend the day doing some really hard core orginizing & cleaning.....& then about 10 minutes after they walk in its all in a clutter again.  Lifes too short to worry about it.  Just roll with it.

  • Do less and say no.
Seriously, when I schedule 1-2 things in a day, and no more, life is WAY better.  WAY, WAY better.
It took a while to get to that point.  After going through the "no, I have to do this" stage.  But that stage is full of lies, I tell you!  Lies!
This would never work for me.  If I only did one or two things a day, then it's basically just an epic amount of procrastination.  There is more than one or two things to do in a day.
I don't mean one or two house hold chores, I mean one or two scheduled things.  Preschool and grocery shopping.  Dance class and a play date.  Yard work and a hike.  Other things - like the kitchen and laundry, I'm not counting in that.  I mean larger things that tend to have to be done in their entirety in one go.

If you schedule too many things in a day, you don't have time to do the other things - like put the load of laundry in the washer AND get it into the dryer AND folded and put away during the course of the day.  If you schedule too many things, you have to force yourself to stay up late to wash dishes after cooking and eating dinner because you had something you chose to do after dinner that butted right up to bedtime and you couldn't do any dishes immediately after dinner.

  • I made a home management binder. It's got calendars, meal planning, grocery lists, bills/finances, cleaning list, contact list... Pretty much everything. I'm a big "list" person. It helps keep me organized.

Also like @MrsBadKat‌, I clean as I go. If you see it needs to be done, do it right away.

We do most of our cooking for the week on Sundays and portion it out for the week and freeze any leftovers. That way when I come home from work just pop it in the microwave or oven and dinner is served.

I also get everything I can ready for the next day the night before. (Lunch, daycare bag, outfit picked out and ironed for work, etc.)

  • I have a dish wand with cleaning solution (blue dawn, water, vinegar) in the shower. I scrub 1 wall/surface everyday while in the shower. Adds minimal time to my daily routine and eliminates a weekly core!

Wipe down furniture and baseboards while distractedly playing with the kids.

Pick 1 task to do (besides kitchen cleaning and toy putting away which each get done every night) after bedtime. Sometimes I get on a roll and do more, sometimes I hurry through it, but at least I get something done.

Involve the kids in cleaning tasks. They slow me down now, but I'm spending time with them and cleaning. And hopefully setting a precedent for the future. Win win win.
