Re: AW: Show us your ink

  • I am going to be getting tattoo #2 soon -- Most likely something like THIS

Tattoo #1 I got 4 years ago, right before my second nephew was born.  This was taken right after I got it done so naturally it's not as red anymore haha.

  • @cjchio, it will also depend on the size of the tattoo.  My best friend and I are getting matchingish tattoos on our feet this summer.  She has a lot of tattoos (a full sleeve as well as others) and said the foot hurts like hell but since we're doing something small it won't be too terrible.

  • I have 4 but at work i don't have pics of them. Placements are:

Left ribcage - Heart design with bff's initials/date of death
Right inner heel - Anchor for my dad to symbolize that he is my "anchor"
Back of neck below my hairline - Spread angel wings my brother and i have them matching

And the one i want GONE is (drum roll please)... A tramp stamp (dumb 17 year old self) its a four leaf clover.
  • @lizabethc‌ - That's a pretty font! Is that the quote you're going to use as well or was that just defaulted on that site?

  • I have one. I never wanted a tattoo before but my dad has a couple and so does my DH (he was my bf at the time). I grew up in a very religious community that believed tattoos were an unforgivable sin and those who had them would burn in hell upon death. I didn't think this way but as I got older I realized that no one can be certain. The thought terrified me. My dad was my whole world, he meant everything to me. Then I met DH and he became the center of my affection. When DH proposed to me and I realized I was going to spend my entire life with him I decided. I am not interested in life after death if it can't involve DH and my dad. If tattoos were going to be the only thing that separated us in death then I will stop it. I got a white outline tattoo of Florida. Florida is my birth place and my safe haven. It was where I spent most of my life with dad and where I promised my life to DH. It is in a location that will seldom, if ever, be seen. It is white so it is almost invisible because it is not meant to be shown. It's sole purpose is to keep my family together in this life and any other.

    ---
How is your white ink doing? I wanted to get a white ink tattoo but was told they fade really quickly.

Mine never sees sunlight and I don't use tanning beds so it's holding up well. My DH had some white on his calf tattoo and it had faded to flesh tone after about 8 months.

@trista9284, that is the font I want but a bit smaller. I plan to get the quote on my left forearm so I want it noticable but not OMG huge haha.

Edited- and yes, I will be getting "For such a time as this."  The Lily is in honor of my mom (her name is Lili) and Luke 12:27 (Look at the lilies and how they grow. They don't work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are.)

I have a tattoo on my foot and it hurt like a mofo.

I have tattoos on both feet, my first one are my Dads birth month flowers with five flowers for each person in my immediate family (when I have children I'll add a flower to to it) and the tattoo artist who did it sucked and didn't apply enough pressure, so when it started peeling ALL THE INK came out of my foot. Two weeks later I had it redone and it hurt much worse.

My other foot has paw prints for each of my furbabies, I have my zodiac symbol tattooed on my hips and my constellation on my ribs. I'd like to add the quote "I know nothing with any certainty but when I look at the stars I can dream" to my ribs.

I absolutely love this. This is amazing and so meaningful.

    I have 9 tattoos. I don't have pics... I should take some.
    1. a magnolia in the center of my upper back between my shoulder blades. It's Louisiana's state flower and I got it during a time when I was missing home a lot.
    2. a lady bug on my pelvis -represents my daughter because we called her "bug" when she was a baby.
    3. purple and gold fleur de lis on my right foot - represents LSU - my alma mater.
    4. Script "It was then that you carried me" on my left foot. I got that during a particularly difficult time in my life.
    5. On my right thigh, I have a hummingbird with a pink flower as a tribute to my grandmother because she collected hummingbirds (like figurines) and pink flowers were her favorite.
    6. On my left rib cage, I have a series of stars that cascade from my shoulder all the way to near my belly button. Each star represents a member of my family.
    7. On my stomach I have a heart that I drew myself.
    8. On my right rib cage I have an infinity symbol with the word "love" in it.
    9. On my left wrist I have the words "All of it" and "John 14:1-4" - I was engaged before my current husband. He committed suicide on February 1, 2011. "All of it" was something we told each other all the time and it was how he signed his note to me. The Bible verse was one he had marked in his Bible that I found when he left it on the desk.

I have plans for others in the future.

  • My newest ink - my memorial tat. I have 4 tattoos total, but this is the only one I have a photo of on my computer right now.  It says "You are missing from me" in French, and the two stars are for the twins I lost in December.
I lost twins in Jan. and hadn't thought to do something like this. Very touching. I am so very sorry for your loss.

Wow. My heart dropped as I read those words. Did he commit suicide while you were engaged? I am so sorry for your loss. That is heart breaking. What a sentimental tattoo though. How does your current husband feel about it?
Yes he did. We were living together. In fact, the day before he shot himself, he and I were looking at venues. Needless to say, when I came home and found the letter, the receipt for the gun he bought, etc... I was absolutely floored. I had no idea. How could he be planning a future the day before? I just remember feeling dizzy... running out to my driveway and screaming "WHERE DID YOU GO!?" Ugh... it was awful. He was missing for two days until his body was found about a mile from our house in an empty field.

My current husband has always known about him. I have never hidden what happened from him. My DH is an amazing man and completely understands. It's not something that is talked about every day, but every so often he asks something ... His picture still hangs in my daughter's room because she loved him so much and he was such a good man. Ugh... I'm starting to cry. Ok... enough of that. Sorry.

  • @cjchio, I think that would be around $50... it really depends on where you go, though.  I was quoted that the second one I am getting will be from $80-$100 but I originally was going to get a much longer quote so I'm assuming this will be cheaper now.

I have a question...what would you guess a legitimate artist would charge for a simple lines rain cloud tattoo near my ankle? I plan on asking when I finally book it, but I was wondering what the price should be around?
I would guess around $50.00 as well. This is a normal minimum charge for the ink/needles ect. I have a small anchor on my heel (about the size of a quarter) and the charge was $50.00.

@bcogil86‌ Here's my dove! I got it because of the peace symbolism too. There's Latin script behind the dove's tail that says "pacis mens, pacis universum". It means peace of mind, peace in the universe. I was in my third year of college, majoring in psychology, and very into meditation and mindfulness.

I have multiple tats, but the only pic I had access to for now is my biggest one on my lower back:
    image

This was taken after the whole thing was completed, you'll see the right side is darker than the rest but that's because the rest had been done in separate sessions so those were more healed.  It's all gray/blacks except for just the flower pedals are a light pink for a hint of color.

My other tats are smaller and include:

Right wrist/forearm: treble clef and bass clef heart, like this:
    image

Between shoulder blades: Gemini symbol...very very similar to this (not as thick lined in the middle)
    image

Inside lower right ankle: A Rosebud (was my nickname growing up) ..dont have a pic

Left hip/tummy area (RUINED by pregnancy): A monarch butterfly kissing/landing on a little treble clef.  It is completely ruined and I'm kicking my 18/19 year old self really hard.  I want to get it covered or completely removed someday.

Cat leg goes crazy and beats itself in the face

    image  image
  • Also, the one that hurt the most was my lower inside ankle tat that only took like 15-20 minutes to do...it's right against the achilles tendon kind of in that little soft spot between the ankle bone and achilles.....there must be a shitton of nerves there because I felt like I wanted to die the whole time.  I'd rather sit through my big back piece for hours and hours over that.

  • @imjessesgirl that is a heartbreaking story.

@morethansparrows08 I love your memorial tattoo also

@cjchio I love rain cloud tattoos. Something like this? 50.00 seems reasonable, but it might depend. My tattoo is small-ish but I paid $125 at a really nice salon. However, they also included free touch-ups for life and my tattoo fades easily on my foot so I've had it redone 3 times.
