PSA: Don't forget to order your breast pump!

Re: PSA: Don't forget to order your breast pump!

  • Called my insurance today & they gave me the website to order it from (they also contact my Dr for the prescription). Seemed way too easy so I'm skeptical that I'll get the pump without more effort..time will tell!
  • Loading the player...
  • I need to remember to get the Rx from my doctor at my next appt so I can go ahead and order mine.

@ElTrain5 - why won't they let you return it without a receipt?  I just returned a bunch of stuff at Target today without a receipt, they just give you store credit.
I never tried that...I always heard that target were such sticklers with returns.  Maybe i'll give it a try! thanks :)

@ElTrain5, if you used a debit/credit card, they can swipe your card and pull up your transactions that way for the return. If you used your debit card, you have the option of having the money go back to your card, be put on a gift card, or even cash back. I lose my receipts all the time, and have never had a problem doing returns at my local Targets! :) Hope that helps!

  • Thanks for this thread, this was something I needed to do but totally forgot about. Mine was super easy, called insurance and they sent me to a website, I got to pick out of 5 different choices, they contact my office for the rx and then it gets sent to me. Easy!

I just called my insurance... They will not cover it unless my baby is ill and staying at the hospital after my discharge... So much for having benefits!!!
  • Has there been a post where models were compared? I searched for it, but didn't see any recently.

My options are: Medela Personal Double Pump (MY57038) and the Hygeia Q.

Has anyone else decided between these two? I know Medelas are popular, but I like that the Hygeia is a closed system. I don't know as much about them, though.

  • I just saw my OB today and wanted to share her advice on when to order the breast pump! She suggested I wait until baby is born so the nurses can acess how he latches on to determine which breast pump will work best for him.  I didn't realize, but my insurance allows for multiple models and there are even different models of Medela (which is what I assumed I would get) that are shaped differently.  I was worried if I waited too long to order I would risk it being out of stock or on backorder or some other drama, but she said she could write me a prescription right then and I could fill it at the hospital and take it home with us and baby.  Not sure if this is the case for everyone, but worth asking your OB their thoughts!! XOXO!

I used this site!! Just print out the form and have your doctors office fill out the bottom portion. I mailed it in instead of faxing and they contacted me within the week and a Medela PIS sent to be the next day! Good Luck ladies :) Just FYI its only for certain states!!
@jessicalynn0828 yeah didn't work for me. I'm in NY.

  • I have Humana and ordered online from "Yummy Mummy" (kind of creepy name...) when you enter which insurance you have they tell you which brands and models are available.  Our insurance even covers some extra supplies so I ordered those as well.

The insurance company doesn't have a wait time (ie 30 days prior to EDD or after delivery) however, the supplier did say that they reserve the right to ship to those whose due dates are earlier first. If I should deliver sooner than 30 days prior to due date, I can call and they will send it right away.

Doing the biggest happy dance over here! I have Highmark BCBS PPO plan and just found out I'm 100% covered for a rental OR purchase of a manual OR electric industrial grade pump. Just have to get a perscription and wait till after Jax is born. I also have to go through a Medical Supplies company that is in network (rep gave me a few options to call). But yay! She also informed me that some hospitals are able directly fill the perscription through insurance on site. So I will definitely be calling my hospital here in a bit to find out if they have this capability. I know that Lactation Services there sells pumps so fingers crossed! That'll make my life even easier!
