I hate that most people find out the sex of their baby. It is one of the few true surprises left in life, and unless this is the third baby which may require certain room changes and transitions, there is no real need to know. It won't make a difference, you are still having the baby.
I also strongly detest gender reveals.
Very unpopular opinion. I know it. It's fine that I am in the minority, and people disagree.
Hate seems like a strong word for this.
I don't understand why people care either way. And there are a ton of surprises in life. Every frickin day is a surprise. For me, knowing if I'm having a boy or a girl, is like the halfway point gift. The real gift is seeing that precious face.

@lisaren we haven't met IRL, but I regretted finding out. DH insisted and we argued over it and I caved. I wanted that moment where DH saw the baby and got to tell me, "It's a boy!" I wanted him to be the proud daddy running out to the waiting room to our family who were all waiting to hear (20 people between the two families). I registered for items for his nursery and gender neutral items. I have so much stuff in his closet that doesn't match his light green and brown nursery because people bought me blue wall decorations. All the clothes people bought were blue, blankets and towels, etc. included.

I'm sorry. That sucks. Hopefully you'll get your "experience" this time!
NOOOOOOOOOOOO. I don't think I'll ever tire of seeing Fitz get rough with Olivia.
------------------
HORF. He's so rapey. And she comes off so weak and gross.
Melly is the only character I can remotely root for at this point.
This is exactly how I feel. I get so pissed off watching Olivia keep putting her foot down and saying that she's done. Then, surprise! She gets thrown across the wall and she loses self control.
And I also wish they would go back to the original structure of the show- a new "fix" each episode.
Could you not take the stuff back and exchange since it was on the registry???
And speaking of registries, I've never registered for any of my children. We asked for diapers and/or wipes or books. Little kid books. But I only had two showers, one for my first son and another for my first daughter, which was my first tubal reversal daughter, and my H first child and his mom insisted. She is a party planner and looks for an excuse to throw a party any chance she gets.
I am not a fan of diaper bags.
I like my underwear to match my bra.
Drives me bat shit crazy when moms talk super loud to their kids walking through the store...
"Mary, mommy is buying carrots for our yummy salad and then we are going to pick up daddy's suits at the cleaners" and said child is like 2 months old.
It screams "I'm needy!!! And I want everyone to know"
Also kids who are car seat police on Fb. Stop. The law is 1 years old. It's recommended to ff at 2 yrs old. It's not a law yet. Stop posting on Fb about how you're the worst mother if you ff at one years old.
Children learn how to talk and learn language by being talked to. The first year is crucial for exposure to language. The more words a child hears, the better they do in reading etc later on....it's been studied over and over. So I applaud a mom talking to her 2 month old about what she is doing. The biggest mistake you can make is thinking that, just because thy can't talk back, then you don't need to talk to them.
I have 4 children. I understand this and I talk to my kids. Hahahahaha.
I'm talking about the moms who talk purposely loud about whatever. Just to be that mom. Like loud talking.
Annie shall we go to buy new shoes. What do you want for lunch. How about we buy new blinds. Let's do yoga. Blah blah blah....
I don't walk around like a zombie with my kids and we engage in all kinds of communication. It's just annoying when it's all cutsie and baby talk and loud. That's the clincher. Loud. Like people on cells who talk loud. When I can hear you 6 aisles away that's loud.
And if you reread my original
Post I stated super loud.
I know exactly what you're talking about. It's the mom who uses their children as an excuse to say out loud everything they want everyone around them to hear. I group them in the same category as the loud cell phone talkers or even worse, the I'm an important business person loud blue tooth talker. They look like their just talking to an imaginary person. Who are you talking to?! You look crazy!

Yes. It's not convo between the child and parent that's annoying, it's the loud ass let everyone hear me because I'm super cool voice.
I don't think small children should be fed McDonald's (or really other fast/processed foods). My MIL feeds my nieces garbage and doesn't see anything wrong with it. They are not 2 until June and she feeds them McDonald's for a treat. First of all, they're not even 2, they think fruit is a treat. Second of all, this is the prime time to develop your child's eating habits, why not feed them the best food you can?
I am not a mom yet, and I realize that time is often of the essense when you have kids, so maybe I shouldn't judge, but is it really that difficult to throw together something healthy for a 2 year old? Today my MIL posted on FB that my nieces had finished a dozen cookies before breakfast. If she thinks that's going to fly around my house she is dead wrong. I don't know that there's a magic age where the odd fast food meal is okay, but I don't think that 2 year olds are asking for McDonald's for lunch if they've never had it before.
I'm pretty sure I might get flamed for this but it's UO Thursday so it's okay.
I'm not flaming you, but I laugh at the fact you're so sure what you will/won't do for your kid. My kid eats fruits & veggies, but can also recognize the Golden Arches from a mile away. She's not overweight and she's very active, so I'm not too concerned about the occasional happy meal. You'll see how your tune will change on many things when the time comes.
FTM here, but in two years of foster kids I never fed them fast food. Even when we passed Taco Bell and my 3 yo started whining. Not everything was super healthy every day, but it was actual food. Even if we had beans and corn for dinner. Also, we fed the kids what we ate (with a little less hot sauce) and they were happy.
Recipe for beans and corn: one can black beans One cup frozen corn
Place all ingredients in microwave safe bowl. Microwave on high for 1 min 30 seconds. Stir and season to taste. Serve with sippy cup of milk or water.
Oh it's different. You have names picked out, a very clear mental image of your baby.
There is nothing better than giving birth to your baby and finding out what they look like and whether you have a son or daughter. It makes the whole process so much more bearable.

The stuff I got was not on my registry and I didn't know where half of it came from.
I had three showers (my family, his family and work). I received one pack of diapers. Everything else was clothes, blankets, bath stuff, some of my nursery stuff (that really I just registered for so that I could use the completion discount to get myself) and trinkets. My 19 y/o niece was pregnant at the same time. People got her so many diapers that she didn't buy any for almost a year. I truly feel like if you're older and it's planned that people buy you the cutesy stuff, while if you're younger and it's not planned, you're more likely to get essentials. Just what I've gathered from my experience.

We are finding out but not telling anyone. I'm hoping that we'll get more essentials at the shower because of this. This isn't why we're not telling anyone, we want to surprise people! And lots of people have told us they don't want to know/want to be surprised so we're just going to not tell across the board.
Pregnancy-related: I judge women who choose to find out the sex of the baby before the a/s. I get that it's their money, their choice, if they want to have an elective u/s or do the Panorama test or whatever specifically just to find out the sex then that's up to them, but I'm still going to think you're just being impatient and I'm still going to judge you for it.
I don't go here, but this post makes me angry. Who cares if someone has a panorama test to determine the sex? Panorama also screens for other Trisomy disorders that other tests could miss, so in having Panorama done to find out the sex, it could be a good thing. From someone who just got results from Panorama indicating a possible issue and is currently waiting to find out whether or not my baby has Trisomy 13, I take serious offense to this.
If you don't want to know the sex of the baby, then don't get the Panorama test done. It's that simple.
------------ ETA: end quote ------------
I do go here and I completely agree! It's one thing if you're just getting the tests done to find out the sex, but quite another if you see learning the sex as a bonus. Personally, I'm pretty terrified that the Panorama is going to come back with something wrong, so I'm choosing to focus on the only positive aspect of the test, which is that I get to know the sex early!
And you do know the anatomy scan is to check for problems too, not a sex-identification event?
My UO is that I hate it when people ride their bike in the street. Reasons: 1. You are not a car. 2. I don't want to run you over. What if your bike tire hits a rock and you are launched over handlebars and you land in front of my car? 3. I always see bike riders breaking traffic laws. Just because you are on a bike does not mean you should sneak into intersection and run a red light if you don't see something coming. I see this multiple times a day and it drives me nuts.
Note: I know this rant makes me sound like a grumpy old lady.

To the bolded, yes, and whether you find out at 20 weeks or 40, you are still going to know the sex of your child. Why do you care when a person chooses to find out? Trust me on this, it's a surprise no matter when you find out, and I personally like to know ahead of time so I can call the baby by the name we've chosen; I feel like it helps me and my other children bond with the new member of our family.

As a cyclist I understand this, I really do, but in most municipalities riding on the sidewalk is illegal. It is also illegal for them to break traffic laws and they can be charged just like a vehicular driver for running reds and passing stopped cars at red lights. Those cyclists make me mad and give us all a bad name!
Bikes are considered vehicles in most places and it is technically considered a "sharrow" for them to be in the vehicular lane. Unfortunately cyclists seem to be "damned if we do, damned if we don't". Drivers honk and yell if we're in the road, but then get all up in arms if a city wants to add more dedicated bike lanes because it's going to narrow lanes and slow down traffic (FYI, studies show tht this is not true). I hve been cussed at, had drinks thrown at me, and even had a car open their door into me! I continue to ride because we live in a culture that is incredibly vehicle-centric, and is increasingly unhealthy in part because of this. I vote with my actions and hopefully if we keep riding we will eventually get bike lanes in more places.
As a side note, I'm also a landscape arch/city planner and have studied city planning, traffic planning, etc extensively. I'm not just talking out of my ass.
I'll get off my soapbox now, this is just something I am passionate about. But I'll agree, there are some asshole cyclists!

I live in one of the country's "Bicycle Friendly Communities" (I think there are only like 20 or something? I may be talking out of my butt though). I don't mind cyclist. Know what I can't stand? The sillies who ride mopeds on roads with speed limits that their little things can't maintain. Drives me nuts.
Oh it's different. You have names picked out, a very clear mental image of your baby.
There is nothing better than giving birth to your baby and finding out what they look like and whether you have a son or daughter. It makes the whole process so much more bearable.
I found out with DD and I will with this one. I never once had a 'clear' image of my baby. We had a name picked out but waited to meet her to make her name official. My baby is not your baby, so it's not your decision. And honestly, I don't understand not wanting to finding out but I don't come on here and berate people for wanting to do it the way they want too. I have friends like this and they were assholes to me the whole time I was pregnant last time. Sore subject.
Oh yea, I'm tired of seeing children with silver caps in their mouth to save their teeth from rotting! I have seen this a lot lately and it disgusts me. I blame the adults . Why is this kid not being taught proper dental hygiene or told not to eat sugar every minute of the day!? I seen a brother and sister yesterday couldn't be older than 5 or 6 ?
Have you ever considered that not every child with cavities eats sugar every minute of the day and never brushes his/her teeth? Did you know some kids naturally have inadequate enamel on their baby teeth or other medical issues that lead to dry mouth which encourages bacteria growth such that no normal amount of dental hygiene and diet will prevent them from getting multiple cavities?
My son had 11 cavities by age 3.5, including a pulpectomy/crown. I am 100% sure I'm not a lazy ass who feeds my kid sugar all day and didn't bother to brush his teeth. It's largely genetic. Plus, while we are pretty much entirely sugar free at home: daycares and public schools pump kids full of crap all day every day.
I know I might be completely alone on this one but I REALLY don't like 3d/4d ultrasounds. They really creep me out and all of the babies look like aliens. During my last pregnancy I honestly had nightmares about these images. Crazy, I know!

I'm team green this time but found out with DS1 and when he was born he was NOTHING LIKE we imagined. I totally get that. I had this image of a blonde boy who looked similar to my stepson. (Both DH and I were blonde until at least 6 or 7). What I saw was my twin with the darkest hair ever. It took some time to realize that the baby we imagined all those months was the not the one we had.

My rant is the opposite. The roads around my house are fairly low-traffic, except for the two major roads leading to the freeway, which both have bike lanes. Nothing drives me crazier than trying to corral my dog and my child/stroller to the side of the sidewalk to make room for someone on a bike. If you are older than 10, you should be riding on the street!
That being said, I think some cities are better than others at putting bike lanes where they are needed. I also think bikers should be encouraged to take the streets with fewer cars. In my neighborhood, for example, this would mean that the bike lanes should have been placed one road over, on the roads that have, seriously, no traffic. That would be safer for both cars and bikes.

I was excited to meet my baby and see what she looked like. I never imagined what she looked like *shrugs*. I just hoped she didn't have DHs nose!! I looks good on him, but not on a little girl! My SIL is due in a week and is team green. She was the only one who never pressured me to not find out. I really appreciated her.

I've taught 1st & 2nd grade in low income schools for 11 years. I've seen so many kids with silver teeth and I judge the hell out of those parents.
I am irrationally annoyed by the baby size to fruit and veg comparisons. Some of them don't make rational sequential sense a sweet potato before a mango really? And nobody f-ing even eats jackfruit or durian. Annoying.
I agree. The sizes are all off! I am just glad I passed the prune stage. For some reason, seeing my baby being compared to a dried up prune makes me feel really uneasy.
By the way, I eat jackfruit and durian. :P

I agree! I questioned a friend of mine the other day who did this very thing with, "at what age do you stop counting months?" It wasn't really well received. But I was honestly curious.
I hate that with kids, now everyone wins, no one can get an answer wrong, no one does anything better than anyone else.... Ugh. What a society of wishy washy people we're raising! My mom taught public school, and they weren't allowed to use red pens because it was too harsh for the kids. Seriously? Also, parents discussing things with their kids like we're all equal decision makers who each get a vote and reach a compromise.... Give me a break. I'm the parent, you're the kid. I'll hear your opinion and consider it, but I'll decide.
On the bike thing, nothing like crossing a busy avenue in NYC only to have some idiot bicycle rider blow a red light because they can sneak through or go the wrong way down an avenue and almost plow over pedestrians. I know a few bad apples ruin it for the responsible bicyclists, but there are enough bad apples that bikers have become a hazard for both cars and pedestrians. Just my opinion based on where I live.

Why? DH is in the Navy and will likely miss the a/s because of a deployment or underway and I don't trust myself to keep an envelope sealed. This way we have a better chance at finding out together

3rd time mom here and I think you should stop counting months after 1 year, maybe 2.... I mean I have a 9 year old, I don't walk around saying he's 108 months. Actually, ya know what? The next time someone asks I'm gonna say that and see what they say lol!
On the bicycle thing: I ride my bike everywhere - work, daycare, groceries, etc. Luckily I live somewhere where it is an accepted part of the culture.
Share the road.

Sometimes he has random snacks for dinner because it's 'one of those days'.
I love my bellybutton piercing.
I love fake nails.
I don't understand the obsession with being super fit during pregnancy. I feel like it wasn't this bad with my first pregnancy.
:P
It's twin girls!! Born on 11-2-14!

And blue tooth. Omg. Kill me.
Recipe for beans and corn:
one can black beans
One cup frozen corn
Place all ingredients in microwave safe bowl. Microwave on high for 1 min 30 seconds. Stir and season to taste. Serve with sippy cup of milk or water.

ETA: I am not referring to motorcycles, just bicycles.

This makes me sad.

I don't want to find out!
