I honestly didn't think lizardbreath meant an actually mentally ill person. I just figured some nut who thought it was funny or would give him attention, not someone with a legit untreated disease.

What a mess. I hope he gets help. His family has issued a few statements and they seem mortified amd like they were at their wits end with him before this.

  • Please tell me if I'm overreacting:
My mom passed a few years ago and my sister is throwing my shower. My mom had 3 really close friends that I still am close with and get together with. My sister invited my moms family and some very strange people I don't really want there (we just aren't that close and I was looking for a smaller gathering). Well the 3 friends decided they don't want to see these people or my grandma and aren't coming. They are having their own mini shower instead. I am really upset and feel like they are causing more drama. But it's already done, so I guess to let it go? How would you feel?

  • @elsa1688 - my gut reaction is that you're right, and the right thing for them to do is to show up at your shower because they shouldn't be putting you in the middle of that drama... But I don't know what you can do, either. Is there a legit reason they don't want to see these women? It just doesn't seem fair to you at all.

  • @lest12‌ there was some drama when my mom died. But I feel like if they really cared, they could have asked me about it instead of being secretive - like "hey, we don't really feel comfortable so how about..." And it would have been different. I can't do anything so I guess I just need to suck it up and deal (crying in the shower helped too. Damn hormones)

Celebrating our boy twice will be exciting, right? :)

  • @elsa1688‌ of course it will!! The only other thing I can think is asking your sister to ask them again to come or something. I don't know the whole thing, that might be too awkward. My sister and I put each other up to that sort of thing when there's family drama sometimes.

  • @lest12‌ the plot thickens- they are also unhappy with how my sister is acting. They think she is making it about her. And I don't feel like dragging my little sister into it. I just HATE drama. There is no drama in my life or around my baby, so I don't get why there is so much around my baby shower.

  • @elsa1688 - I feel you. There's always drama with my family too and (I can be guilty of this as well) I've noticed that it is usually when there are big things happening and people are stressed out or anxious for whatever reason and can't seem to remember how to act... Not necessarily that they mean to be asses. Either way I hope you enjoy all of the celebrating - you deserve it!

The the girl with the empty reusable water bottle in her backpack standing next to the filtered water dispenser intended for the purpose of filling water bottles. WHY THE HELL ARE YOU BUYING A 2 DOLLAR BOTTLE OF WATER FROM THE COFFEE STAND!?!?!?

Why people buy water at all is beyond me! Spend the $10 on a good water bottle and fill it for freeeee nearly everywhere you go. Madness!

Do you have good tap water?  Our tap is pretty undrinkable here, so we've always had to buy filtered water.  But, you can fill up a 5 gallon jug for like $1, so we use that at home instead of buying bottled water.  That being said, if I need water while I'm out, there's no where to fill it up, so the only option is bottled, which sucks.

That was one of the things I loved about Italy, amazing AND ice cold tap water pretty much everywhere.  It was fantastic, we'd buy one bottle of water and then just refill that bottle over and over, saved so much money.

I have a Camelback water bottle that has a carbon filter ($20 I think?). I was able to filter almost any tap water. I used to work in SE DC and we would swear the tap water came out of the anacostia river and it tasted fine. That being said, I couldn't use it at my moms house. She has a ton of sulfur in her water. They only use it for bathing and dishes, even after the huge salt filters that they use.

This is how our water is too.  I'm assuming a large part of it is because we're in the desert and our water comes from so far away.  Nothing short of reverse osmosis makes our tap drinkable (well, good tasting drinkable.  Health-wise it's safe to drink, it just tastes like crap).  I envy areas with good tap water though...so much more convenient.
  • @KrystaJ‌ it is all too exciting that Orange is the New Black comes back in June. Yay for things to watch while home with baby!

I thought this was awesome, too! I went there for my honeymoon and now you just made me miss it so much.  (Weird, though... almost nobody serves tap water in their restaurants.  You almost always have to buy it.)

It's still just tap water though (at least it was where we went).  At the restaurants we went to that we had to buy the water, that was their version of a 'table fee', which is common there because you typically don't tip.  It made me chuckle though that we could get a pitcher of house wine and a pitcher of tap water for almost the same price.

Man I miss Italy.  Although, I just discovered Archer Farms (Target brand) makes a really good pistachio and tiramisu gelato.  Obviously not as good as the real Italian stuff, but it's loads better than some of the gelato I've had in local gelato shops.
  • @BrightEyes112‌ which one did you get? My sister got is the galaxy grey and I think it's the thing I'm most excited to use!!!!

  • Something to look forward to come next month: https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12319572/psa-on-behalf-of-the-overdue-moms/p1 Also, got my ergo today! I'm so freaking excited to use it.

Do you think by the end of 9 months of love and support, BMB moms just get super sick of each other?

  • DH came home today after being gone for almost 3 weeks. Instead of taking advantage of DD being in daycare so that we could DTD like we planned we got a call from daycare like 10 mins after DH got home saying that DD had a fever and needed to be picked up. Her fever spiked to 105 so we spent our evening at the ER. Of course, after 3 hrs of waiting, by the time DD finally got seen by a Dr. her temp was pretty much back to normal and she was acting like a healthy happy toddler. Her throat was a little swollen so they did a strep test which came back negative. So basically we have no idea why she had a fever and why it spiked so high but were told just to continue giving her tylenol and to monitor her. Now DD and DH are both sound asleep in DD's bed. DH must have fallen asleep while putting her to bed.

  • @Rosebud2587 - That sounds so scary! I hate not having answers - but at least she is doing much better. Sorry your night was not how you were hoping!! : (
  • @emilyh107 Thank you. She seems to be feeling better this morning. I think her fever broke in the middle of the night some time because she doesn't feel warm anymore. Thank goodness.
