Do you have an accent?

Since most of us don't get to hear each other talk, it made me wonder what kind of cool accents people have?

Re: Do you have an accent?

  • Definitely southern here.
  • Loading the player...
  • Boston/New England.

I definitely think I'm losing my Boston-ish accent as the time passes,  but people around here still call me out on having it.

  • Not sure what a "west coast" accent is. I don't think I have one.
  • Being a military family a lot of people lose their accents...it just goes into the huge melting pot of people around you.
However, when we visit home that southern drawl comes out in both of us!
  • From Texas here but no accent

  • I said no accent...if you are born/raised in CT, its rare that you have an accent. But come in from a neighboring state? We're surrounded by strong accents...MA, RI, NY. I would say though that I speak like I'm from New England. "Wicked" is in my daily vocabulary. LOL
  • I'm from Colorado. We speak about as "normal" as it gets.
  • I'm from Michigan, close to chicago....everyone tells me I talk like I'm from chicago.

  • I don't think I have an accent. A bunch of people on here have heard me talk though, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I didn't know if there really is a West coast/California accent, but I didn't want to leave them out, just in case?

  • I am Jersey....and when I get mad or worked up....my Jersey really slips out

  • SS - I don't think I have an accent. But, my southern in-laws disagree.

  • Well...I was born in Canada, moved to Mexico at age 10. So I do not have a Canadian accent...most people that I speak with over the phone ( I work in a call center) think I am from states. But speaking in spanish I sound mexican. So I confuse many many people.
  • If I have an accent, it's a very slight Midwestern one. I know we pronounce things just a little bit more nasal than other parts of the country, but no one could pinpoint where I'm from by hearing me talk, I don't think.

  • Ladies who I've met - do I have an accent? I don't think so...

I think I have an accent when I speak Spanish but most people tell me no - that it sounds natural as well.

  • @Bunnyfer‌ You're a Jersey girl, too? My accent went away when I went to college, mostly because my friends would always comment on it and it annoyed the crap out of me. If I'm around my family for too long or really excited/angry, it totally slips out again, lol. I tawk funny sometimes, lol

  • MitsB707 - Born and raised in S Jersey. Moved to Fl in 99. Most people say they cant tell i am from nj....then it slips out....lol

  • @Bunnyfer‌ Dh wants us to move to FL. Too funny! I went from Ny to NJ to PA and back to NJ. Dh knows we're never selling this house, so I think the accent will be back and here to stay. ;)

  • I don't think I have an accent, but I use a fair amount of colloquialisms from where I grew up.

  • I grew up in Louisiana and now love in Texas. I don't notice my accent as much as other people do but it's some odd combo of Louisiana/typical Southern. The more angry or drunk I am the stronger it gets. ;)
  • @crazed178‌ Where in Louisiana are you from? I was born in Alexandria and grew up about an hour from there on the bayous.

To people from other areas I probably have a southern accent. But compared to the country bumpkins around here (Northeast Texas) I don't, unless I get really pissed. Then I sound like a cross between Julia Sugarbaker and a sailor.
    Sugarbaker for President!

  • @crazed178‌ I'm in a suburb of Dallas. Austin is a fun town though! I'm sure you'll love it there and it's nice to be closer to family.
  • I totally don't sound like I'm from NY

    This is more like it...
    A shopping cart = carriage.
    A water fountain = bubbler.
When you fall down you take a digger.
    Very = Wicked
