  • Scheduled induction with vaginal delivery. Uncomplicated.
  • Emergency C-section--- they didn't realize till I was 9c m and ready to push that DS was breech.   8-|
    image
    image
  • Scheduled induction by cytotech (which I do not suggest anyone doing) we had 2 complications. There was meconium in the fluid and when they did the epidural that had to poke and prod so many times. I have a scar on my back now ):

Plus, I was really doped up to the point I didn't even realize how important she got out with out inhaling any fluid

I picked elective c-section because that was the closest to my experience but I can assure you I would not have chosen it if I didn't have to! I had a required scheduled c-section due to breech presentation. I knew he was breech pretty much the entire third trimester.

  • It wasn't a planned c section but it was not an emergency c section. Somewhere between my 39 week appointment and 40 week appointment he flipped from head down to head up. So at my 40 week appointment they sent me to the hospital for a csection.

Scheduled induction on my due date where I vaginally delivered a 10lb 6oz baby boy.. I never want to be induced again, but iI'm glad we did it when we did because I wonder how much bigger he would have been..

Number 2, went into labor on my own, delivered a 9lb 2 oz baby boy vaginally without meds.. :)

    Eta: auto correct sucks
  • Vaginal with epidural
  • Induced at 40w1d due to gestational hypertension. Vaginal birth with an epidural and no real complications other than having to tell the nurses I was going to push whether the OB was there or not ;)

  • So far I've had two long but fairly uncomplicated vaginal med free births. I'm hoping for a third!

Those of you who got emergency c sections, were any of you put under general anesthesia or was it done with an epidural? I'm super scared of having to have a c section while awake, it's one of the biggest reasons I don't get epis, because I feel like then there's no way they'd put me under if a c section was needed when there is already an epi . But I'm curious if even if you don't have an epi in and you need a c section if they go that route or straight to the general. This is something I'll discuss with my doc, I'm just curious about others experiences.

  • @kindacrunchy - I had an epidural, plus some other pain medicines that I don't recall offhand.  Having surgery while awake was my biggest fear with the c-section, but I have to say that it wasn't bad at all.  I thought I was going to feel everything, but just the numbed up version.  Truth be told, with the sheet blocking everything and with the drugs, I didn't feel much of anything.  Sometimes a bit of pressure, but that's all.  I already had an epi, but I'm pretty sure that's almost always the first step rather than general because general anesthesia can lead to more complications.

  • Mine was a vaginal birth at 37 weeks with pitocin induction and an epidural...totally stalled my labor and I came very close to a c-section. For that reason and many others, I'm hoping for a med-free, intervention-free (FX) birth.

Vaginal birth with an epidural. My water broke but I was not progressing at all so I ended up with pitocin. There was meconium in the fluid and they ended up using the vacuum to get her out. I had a third degree tear and an internal tear. I had to be taken to the OR to be stiched up. I couldn't walk without a lot of pain for about 4 weeks. After all that I'm no longer scared of a csection. ETA - they used the vacuum because her heart rate was dropping and I wasn't making much progress pushing her out.

I had an emergency caesarean. My daughter's birth was actually a pretty traumatic event for me. I wrote her birth story here on my blog.

I put vaginal birth, and it was that way for both, but they were both emergent inductions due to developing pre eclampsia

  • For my first DS he was breech and I was completely uninformed. I scheduled a c-section right at 30 weeks. It was a very painful and tramatic experience for DH and I.

I had a successful VBAC with DS#2 and it was just amazing. I am hoping to do the same with this baby!

  • DS #1 : I was induced due to high blood pressure. They broke my water and started pitocin at 4 pm. At 2 am I decided to get the epidural. I felt great! I slept til 9am. Then I woke up with the urge to push, I pushed until 11:18 am when my 7lb 9.7 oz baby boy was born. I then had a post partum hemorrhage and lost a ton of blood! I was not allowed out of bed or to even hold my baby until about 6 that evening. Then I had to have a blood transfusion. Not the best experience.

DS #2. I was sent to the hospital to be induced due to high blood pressure again.  However, they broke my water at 5 pm and labor started on it's own. Around 11:30 pm I got the epidural, well I got 3 epidurals as the first 2 didn't take. Around 12:30 I was in a ton of pain. The nurse came and checked me, I was at a 4 right after the epidural, I was then at an 8! I could feel it all, too! The epidural had only lasted a short time. I was dilating way too fast and it was painful! I started pushing around 1:20 am. At 1:47 am my 7lb 9.3 oz baby boy was born. No complications after!!! It was so different, as I actually got to hold my baby as soon as he came out and I got to feed him. I didn't want to let him go!

  • I was induced at 40+1 because of severely low amniotic fluid (a sign of deterioration of the placenta)...the induction went well, my water broke on its own a few hours in, I labored for about 12 hours before needing pitocin (and got an epidural soon after, that was the worst part) and delivered vaginally. It was about 18 hours from my induction to my delivery.

Induction bc of no progress at all (41w4d)
    12 hrs labor contraction's 1 min apart
    6:30a doctor broke water at a 1cm
    645a went to a 4cm
My heart rate drops, baby hb goes way up
    Out by 7:02a emergency-c

Cord was wrapped 2x around neck and once around torso

Overall the emergency c section was not bad at all. The doctor was super nice and gave me the this is medically necessary bc baby and your life are endanger 5 sec speech. At that point I just wanted him safe and I didn't care.
  • Vaginal birth, 38.5 weeks, no meds or interventions. I hope for a similar experience this time, though I wouldn't mind baking baby an extra week.

I had a drug free vaginal delivery with a four hour labor start to finish, and DD was just about 9 pounds with a 99 percentile head. I'm really hoping I'm as lucky this time (and that baby gives us time to get to the hospital!)

  • 41 weeks, induced, 12 hours from when the contractions started to when she was finally born. With the induction, the contractions started hard and fast with little to no break in between. They gave me Demerol to help relax between contractions, but since there was little break, there wasn't much point. At one point, they told me I wasn't progressing far enough fast enough so they were going to do a c-section if I didn't get to 5cm by a certain time. It ended up being fine though, stuff started happening, my body cooperated and I successfully have birth naturally. The Demerol was another story though....it did nothing for me, but made it to my daughter's blood stream and relaxed her to the point that she didn't breathe right away, so her apgar score was a 1/10 which caused us to have to stay in the hospital for an extra night.

2nd birth, on my due date, no induction, totally natural, I used the laughing gas for pain control and that was it. 6 hours from start to finish and it was a good experience!
  • Vaginal birth with epidural but no other inducing or pain relieving drugs which is exactly how I wanted it. My doctor let me push for 5 hours with little progress which is pretty much unheard of from people I've talked to. Most doctors probably would have forced an emergency c-section.

  • I chose elective but I had pre-e and at my 36 week appt. DD failed a NST and BPP. Doc offered to induce or do a c-section the next day. I was showing no signs of being ready and I was a FTM and scared so I chose the c-section. It was a good choice. DD's cord had two separate knots and was too short. Doc said it could have torn during labor and she wouldn't have made it. All in all it was stressful and I'm hoping for a calmer experience this time around!

First: 2 days overdue labor started naturally. 24+ hrs (15ish hours of active labor). Labor kept slowing down so they have me pitocin then epidural. About 40 minutes of pushing. 9lbs, 21in baby. One tiny tear. Easy recovery.

Second: 6 days overdue labor started naturally (4hrs before my induction time!) From first contraction to baby in my arms was just under 2.5 hours only 10 minutes in my hospital room and 2-3 pushes. Med-free. 10lbs 11oz, 21in baby.

I voted emergency c-section but I would say it was more urgent than emergent. I only labored for 4-5 hours before DD's HR plunged into the 60s for several minutes. Meconium in the fluid, my BP bottomed out, off to surgery I went.

The c-section really wasn't that bad compared to a much worse prior abdominal surgery. I was scared but when I heard the cry and they told me she was a girl, all my fears completely vanished. Recovery was pretty easy.

    @Staciefacie‌ I had Cytotec
also and when I said 12 hrs labor contractions 1 min apart... That is why. They had to flush my line several times to slow my labor down. I think only 10% of people get contractions like that and most get period cramping. I'm assuming you are in that 10 too :(

Wow I just googled it again. It is now a black box drug and is known for causing uterine rupture... Waaa!!
  • DD was urgent, not emergency.  I pushed for 5 hours and she wasn't making progress, so they decided to do a c after her HR started dropping.  With DS, I wanted to try for a VBAC, but he was 6 days late and still not dropping, so I chose a c.  With this one, I'm scheduling a c.  I was lucky to have very easy recoveries with both so am hoping this one goes easy as well.

I can't remember what I voted for but I think it was elective c-section.  I went into labour on my own.  I stalled at 8 though and had a c section for her being head down but facing the wrong way.

  • My c/s was also not emergency, but certainly wasn't planned.  I hoped for a natural, med-free birth, and wound up going i to be induced, the induction failed and I had a c-sec.  I was never in labor, I never dilated past about 1 cm, and I was just over a week late with a couple of other complications that led to a c/s being strongly recommended to me, so I agreed.

  • At 38 weeks my water broke at 11 PM at night but I didn't go to the hospital until 10 AM the next day ( I was in denial and not completely sure that it was my water breaking). By 11 PM I was still at 1 cm and since it had been 24 hours since my water broke they said that I would need a c-section.
It really is nothing to be scared of...if it's the best way for your baby to come into the world healthy and safest for you - then hey, just relax! My birth plan was to go completely natural but that didn't work....oh well... still the most amazing experience of my life!

  • My first was honestly a nightmare. My dr told the nurse to stop everything for ny induction and gave no explanation as to why. He told my ex to "tell me how you want your induction to go and I'll just show up" so we fired him and I hired a new doctor in the throws of labor, they broke my water and found muconium. Almost had an emergency c-section. But they put me on a "rinse cycle" with a saline pump to wash out all the goss amniotic fluids. I tore my urethra an inch in and the moral of the story is it sucked.

That being said! My sons was so easy. My water spontaneously broke and there was no tearing no interventions nada. Now when I say easy I don't mean it was cake labor is friggin hard, but there were no complications.
  • I started having contractions the morning I was due to go in for cervix ripening gel @ 41+2, water broke a few hours after I got the gel, contrax 1-2 mins long ever 3-4 minutes for hoooouuuurrrsss with basically no cervical progress, got epidural, things slowed down even more, pitocin and eventual forceps delivery because he kept getting nasty decels and was kinda crooked.

I was induced at 41w2d and tried to go med-free vaginally. I had an acute placental abruption at 7cm, so emergency c-section. No choice about that. I will go RCS this time. Both babies have an anterior placenta that is likely on the c-section scar and I am higher risk for another abruption (or 2) so whiel my OB is all for VBACs, not in my specific case :(
