AW: so, I ended up in L&D tonight...

The past two nights at work, I've started contracting pretty badly. (I'm 24 weeks FWIW) yesterday, doc told me to put my feet up, drink lots of water, etc. Was feeling fine this morning, so I went to work this afternoon. Sure enough, contractions started again and he ordered me to labor and delivery for monitoring.

Baby looks GREAT!! Super active and strong heartbeat. Contractions were there, but slowing way down. Also a great sign!

He's ordered me on bed rest for the weekend. I see him on Monday, and we'll evaluate my work situation. There's not really any more of a light duty option for my job than I've been doing. (I'm a customer service manager at wal mart. 8 hours a day on my feet)

So...idk what's gonna happen. I can't really afford to go on leave early. But Of course, I'll do whatever is best for baby. Anyone else starting leave early? I had planned to work until at least 37 weeks.

  • Praying baby continues to cook! Sending lots of thoughts and prayers your way!
  • Loading the player...
  • Sending you good vibes for the baby to stay put. Hope you will be able to stay working and still be safe.
  • Hugs to you. Hopefully baby stays put until time. Can they at least provide you a stool at your station so you can sit when possible to address customer issues? And I'm pretty sure of die trying to handle retail customer service anymore. Thanks for being there when I'm being all needy about stupid shit. :-)

  • You just sit your butt down LO, mommy isn't ready for you just yet!
  • sorry to hear about the problems you've been having, but glad baby looks great!  I'll keep you guys in my prayers that your LO behaves and stays put for a while longer!

  • Yeah, my MIL suggested getting a chair also. The stupid thing is that I've already cut out most of the physical stuff. I literally stand around, babysitting the front end. And evidently it's too much for my body to handle.

  • I second getting a chair. When I worked retail, the pregnant women that needed it would be put on a register or at customer service where they could sit on a stool behind a counter. Hope something gets worked out for you. Glad baby looked good!
  • I've been using a stool pretty much the whole time. Yes, I feel lame when everyone else is on their feet... but it's my piece of mind. Good luck to you, sit tight baby!
  • I'm glad the baby is ok. Try to get some rest this weekend!

  • Glad things are looking good! Will they allow you to use a wheel chair to get around? You can keep your feet propped up and get your job done. Hopefully you and your doc can come up with a good compromise.

  • Oh I'm so glad baby looks great! Just relax and take it easy. That baby needs to finish cooking! I wish I could give advice for the early leave situation but all I can really do is wish you the best. So many hugs!
  • I just called work to let them know that I would be out for the weekend, due to bed rest (pretty much), and she asks "do you have a note?" Well, no...it was the furthest thing from my mind last night. So I tell her I'll get one on Monday, and bring it with me if I come back. "IF??" She flipped. Yeah, contractions this early are serious. I can't keep having them lady. He may not let me work if we all can't come to an agreement about my working conditions.

I've had a few more contractions, but so far they're staying under the limit of 6/hour that he's told me to look for.

Thanks so much everyone for the positive thoughts. :) you ladies rock, I don't care what anyone says about you ;)

BFP#2 7/3/13.  U/S at 6w4d showed 1 heartbeat at 127 bmp and 2 empty sacs.  MMC discovered at 10w4d.  D&C 8/27/13.  Pathology showed normal boy.  Missing our babies every day.
    BFP#3 10/29/13!  Beta#1 at 4w5d - 2141, beta#2 at 5w1d - 7651!  U/S 11/21/13 showed baby measuring 2 days ahead with a heartbeat of 127 bmp!
  • I am on bed rest so I am on leave right now and I'm disappointed about it.

If your doctor fills out an ADA Accommodations form for you, legally your company has to comply. Before I went on bed rest my doctor gave me restrictions and filled out my employers ADA form. They had to move me into a temporary alternate position (a desk job basically) and hired a temp to fill my spot.

Maybe look into your options with you HR department. Also, make sure to stay really hydrated at work. You should be drinking 8- 8 ounce glasses of water per day and an additional 8 ounces for every hour of light activity (that's what my DR told me at least). So basically, if you are on your feet all day you really need to push the fluids.

I'll look into the ADA form. But I do know that my job has no desk work whatsoever. Our best hope is that they give me a chair and I sit on my butt unless needed by a cashier for something

My fear is having contractions and not knowing it. Sorry for the 'stupid' question but how did you know that these were labor contractions? I'm a First timer, and don't know anything about it.

They feel like really bad period cramps. I never really had them with DD1, so I wasn't sure if I was overreacting this time. But monitors don't lie. They were measurable. Even now, as I lie in bed, I'm having period-like cramps. I need to get up and drink some water :)

  • I'm on a partial bed rest only, because I begged to be allowed to work at least a little bit so I would have some income. It stinks, but it's my only choice.

Pregnancy is covered under ADA as well as FMLA. Your favorite word will be 'accomodation' in talking to your HR department. They have to give you a reasonable accomodation and a stool behind the counter seems pretty reasonable.

  • I hope work can accomadate you (as they should), and baby stays in there! Take care!
