If baby sleeps in your room - do you have this problem?

DH can't sleep unless the room is cool. He always cracks a window, even if it's 0 out! Obviously we need to keep baby girl warmer so he's been sleeping in the spare room, but we both miss him sleeping in our room! Baby is in a RNP next to my side of the bed, and with the window open even just a crack, I worry there will be a draft since the RNP is low to the ground. Ideally I'd love to move her to her crib in the nursery next to our room, but last night I tried and it didn't go well (I'll keep trying). Any other suggestions? I can't be the only one with this problem, lol!

Hubs cracked the window the other night and woke ds up. Thanks for cutting my 3 hour stretch in half! If I wasn't ebf I totally would have made him get up! No advice other than to keep trying the transition to the crib if that's what you want to do.

  • MH keeps asking to crack the window at night because it's so damn hot here (So Cal), but I keep telling him no. 1) Because I hate having windows open at night for safety reasons (yes I know it's silly), and 2) LO sleeps right next to the window in our room for now and I don't want her to get cold. We do sleep with the fan on low in our room.
  • Can you move the RNP to her nursery? You can start in the crib every night and when things go south, put her in the RNP in her room?

You know I was thinking about that! Does that seem weird though?! lol! I mean, it's not like she's going to jump out....I don't know! I feel like crib = nurser, RNP = next to my bed. But I might try it
     tonight.

  • I second moving the RNP. It'll help LO get used to being in the other room without you, but let her have something familiar for the transition. Once she's used to the room transition to the crib!

Or try daytime sleeps in the crib, again to make it more familiar!

  • Hmmm.
Everyone is giving advice about moving LO to the other room.

If you're not ready for that, try dressing LO more warmly.
When I find my bedroom cool I put a hat on LO along with an extra layer of clothing and an extra (yup) blanket.
(**I don't use swaddles or sleep sacs. )
He sleeps right near the floor vent.

If you ARE ready to move LO, I'd do daytime rest/play, then daytime naps.
I put LO in the crib while I'm tidying or putting away laundry or bathing DS1.
He has slept there for a few naps as well.
We will be switching DS1 to his new room with big bed in a few weeks. At that time, DS2 will move to the crib.

    Good luck.
  • Our LO slept in a RnP in our room for the first couple of weeks and we keep our house at 64, have a fan going along with an air purifier. Needless to say our room was chilly and breezy.

I put a blanket down in the RnP then put LO on top and he had a blanket over his legs. The blanket under him cut back on the draft that he would of felt. I just made sure it was big enough to hang over the edge.

I hope I described this enough to make sense.
  • Update - she slept in her crib last night! whoo hoo!

  • If it makes you feel any better, I read on more than one website that a baby should sleep in cooler temperatures just like you. Between 65 and 70 degrees believe it or not. Just make sure when you feel your LO that they don't feel cold to the touch, and layer them up if they do.

  • My husband loves the ceiling fan on full blast but I think it's a bit much for the baby. The stupid fan only has two settings that work, hurricane and off. Today my dad and I will be replacing the half broken fan with one that works.

  • Have you tried putting the RNP in her room? Perhaps she's more used to that. Slowly start transitioning her to the crib during naps. That's what we had to do with DS1
