Um, WTAF mom at Abby's Dance class?! Verbal does not equal smart. Verbal equals verbal.

I asked her what she meant & she is like, "well, looks are valued over smarts. So she can't say a lot, but being attractive will get her further anyway. So don't worry about it!"

I mean, yeah Abby is pretty. Thanks & all. However, she is smart you fucker. Just because she can't recite her ABC or colors on demand doesn't mean she doesn't know them. She follows instructions & expresses herself in her own way.

Teachers have no trouble & the speech therapist is satisfied that there is no cognitive delay. In fact, all the therapists that have assured me that Abby seems incredibly intelligent. She just has a hard time forming words.

I wish verbal ability wasn't some marker for how smart a kid is. The quiet ones or the late talkers aren't stupid. $&#%!!!!

Did you have a similar experience to this last year? I swear I have read this post before - I was looking at it to see why someone had commented on such an old thread, like if you updated it. Either you have a plethora of foot-in-mouth dumb moms by you or I'm psychic and dreamt this exact post months ago. Talk about de ja vu. Which creeps me out given my recent heebie jeebies.

I'm sorry she said something so dumb. Most moms realize all the points you made. Your little girl is wonderful! Heck, lots of kids are shy - you can never know why a child isn't talking unless parents share the info. I don't judge intellect from verbalizations and social encounters.
