1st Trimester

Hubby

My husband does not seem excited about pregnancy news, "I thought it might take another 6 months or so". Any tips?

Re: Hubby

  • has it had a chance to settle yet?  guys don't always react the way we want them to, they have to process things and internalize them.  it's disappointing, but give him time and he will come around.

  • have you had an u/s yet? that is when my DH started acting excited. He just now started rubbing my tummy. And He asks each week what size it is, what is happening, etc.
  • give him time. it's a big thing, and he'll have to absorb it and get used to it at his own speed.

i bet you by the first appt, he'll come around. and if he hasn't by then, the second he sees and u/s he'll be in love.

  • I think I was actually more like that then hubby. We got PG the first time we tried the "whatever happens, happens" theory so I was surprised it happened so quickly. As soon as we had an Ultrasound and I saw my little peanut in there...I was like YAY BABY Smile

I was the same exact way Danielle. Hubby has been the "giddy little school boy" this whole time, but me it took awhile for it to finally sink in.

OP: Give your DH some time to let it sink in, don't push him to talk about it either. When he's ready he will. Best wishes and a H&H 9 months to you.

  • I was kinda sad when my DH didn't seem too excited (other than about the huge new boobs) and he told me that it was hard when it was all happening inside of me... but after we heard the heartbeat, he has been very interested.  Maybe you can share some websites or a book with DH that shows the baby's size, etc, so he can feel more involved.  Just don't take it personally; he'll come around!

  • My DH was like that but he also had the stomach flu since the day after we found out. But out of the blue last night we were in the grocery store and he looked at me, got a big goofy smile, hugged me and said...."You are carrying our baby" With all my emotions I thought I was going to burst out bawling!!! It was cute!

I was the exact same wayy!! I honestly didn't expect it to happen so quickly, but it did... 1st try. And then I just got scared, but once I saw everybody else around me's enthusiasm I quickly got excited and our 1st sonogram is on the 2nd and I can't wait!! It won't show much more than likely but to hear the heartbeat will make my day :) !
