What started as a day at the nail salon turned into a day a northern New Jersey woman won't soon forget.

The owner of Eden Nails in Glen Rock tells The Record the woman, a regular customer of the salon, came in on Wednesday for a manicure-pedicure and foot massage.

Nancy Wang says the woman's nails weren't even dry when she went into the bathroom after having a massage. That's when her water broke.

Wang says a customer in the salon was a nurse from a nearby medical facility, and she had the woman lie down in the bathroom.

The woman's husband arrived in time to see the baby boy delivered, which happened just as an ambulance arrived.

I am so scared of one of these crazy scenarios happening to me!  I have really bad luck in general so I feel like this is destined to me.   Just wait for my birth story, ladies ;-)

  • MIL called today from Babies R Us, and the car seat we were registered for is being replaced by a new model and was 50% off! (And there was only one left, she got to it seconds before a rabid pregnant lady :P) so she got us the car seat and a high chair. yippee!

So, PSA, if you're interested in the Evenflo Symphony DLX, it is super cheap wherever you can find it!!! I have a friend who recently nabbed one for (I believe) $90 at Sears.

Also, I spent all day in Ikea today. Just wanted to pick up a dresser really quick, and that place is like Bermuda's triangle. Not only got the dresser, but a rug, curtains, and this super neat leaf bed canopy. https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60054636/

DH made awesome salmon and scallop tacos tonight. I can't even freaking believe I married a chef. Seriously. I don't know how I lucked out so hardcore on that one.
Ahhhh I'm so jealous!  My DH loves to cook, so when he is home I eat like a grown up.  When he is gone, I eat like a lonely single girl in college ;-)  I've been trying really hard to eat real meals given I'm eating for two here...  But hopefully LO forgives me for the chips/salsa/jelly beans thing tonight because I just don't have the energy to think up/make something more legitimate to eat!

  • @literachick totally. I just ended up registering for everything on Lucie's list that also had good reviews on amazon. Probably not the best or most selective process but that ish is overwhelming!

  • Idk if there was ever a thread on this and Idk the full story but the woman that was arrested for drinking while breastfeeding? What I come to understand is she was doing the two at the same time? My uncle is ranting on FB about how a bunch of 'armchair retards' are going after this woman when there is no proof she did anything wrong. Someone else chimed in that in Canada they used to give you a beer to make your milk come in? And that my Grandma drank while pregnant and theres nothing wrong with any of them. My dad even piped in to say theres more ADHD now than before... Im seriously aggrevated by all of this. Firstly my uncles are all alcoholics so it seems like hes trying to justify it. I think its ridiculous, especially when there is the pump and dump option. And I think they really have no idea when or how milk comes in, either. People used to xray the baby, too, when they didnt have ultrasounds. Doesnt mean we dont learn later on its not the best idea...

DH is gently leading me away to crawl into bed before I start sobbing over all of the crap I pick out.... I love Amazon and their review system, it's the only thing keeping my sanity in check. Just when I get one item locked down, something else pops up on the side that I totally forgot about adding! I'm thinking of pencilling in some time at a babysuperstore soon so I can get a look at this stuff in person.

Hook me up if you find yourself geeking out about a product, I love referrals! ♥♥♥

I'm kind of excited about this: https://amzn.com/B003TSDMH8 seems to be much preferred over the Boppy.
Feel free to post here whenever you're having a hard time with something specific. I have both a brest friend and a boppy. I think in the end I preferred the boppy more because the brest friend isn't exactly the same on both sides which is kind of weird. I ended up using a pillow with the brest friend a lot, but DS was really small so that could have been part of it.

One of my main recs is to get a swing with an AC adapter so you don't go broke on batteries :) I know not everyone wants/likes the swing, but DS loved it, so we did in turn :)

  • Holy. Shit.

I am on Amazon and BabiesRUs adding some more items in preparation for my 2 upcoming showers. As a FTM I have never been more intimidated by the selection of swings, cradles and bouncers - wth is the difference! MY MIND IS BLOWN AT ALL OF THE CHOICES! I need a STM GF stat to just hold my hand through this.

    Anyone else having this issue?
My only advice on the swing if you get one is to get one that can be both battery-operated and plugged in if you can. That way if power goes out, you have the battery back-up or if the battery dies in the middle of the night you don't have to fumble around to change it if you happen to be having a night where LO won't sleep anywhere else.
  • @amlonica please read what ghost said, she's spot on. There's nothing wrong with a drink or two while you're nursing as long as you're smart about it.
    Pass the sheet cake.

  • Thanks thats why i asked. I was lead to believe she was out at a bar... which is ridiculous. (And my uncles really are alcoholics) Thanks for clarification!
  • Thanks for the info @ghostof5letters‌! I had already figured out the 2 hour wait part, but I hadn't even thought about the potential effect on milk production if I have more than 1 or 2 per week! I was a glass of wine (or two) virtually every night kind of girl pre pregnancy!

  • Ohhh yes I can't wait to indulge in a nice chocolatey stout post pregnancy!

Also, I got the snugamonkey cradle'n'swing back when target was having their crazy clearance sale (scored it for $65!) so again, going for convenience rather than hella research. I did look at the reviews and comparables before I took the plunge, but for 70% off that swing was just gonna be mine haha. Ditto my snugamonkey RNP and my graco jogging stroller lol. Impulse buys, yo!

  • @tourqeyes‌, don't you live in Charlotte? I thought I remembered you saying that at one point - I was there this weekend for a conference at the convention center. I respect people that live near a big city and have to deal with all that traffic...I was about to have a meltdown on I-77 near Lake Norman!

  • @LiteraChick, this is the swing I am getting. https://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Power-SpaceSaver-Cradle-Swing/dp/B00F2MQ82K/ref=br_it_dp_o_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=2E18L52WFPH26&coliid=I1QBJ2H2PGJ8KC

It is smaller that most, plugs in, swing front and back and side to side, and is movable. It's still really new so there aren't many reviews out there for it.

  • I burned my finger on microwaved pop tart lava, because I am 12 years old apparently. I looked up home remedies, and put honey and gauze on it. It's actually working, but it's a real bitch to type right now.

  • Why on earth does my FIL think they need to purchase a car seat for their vehicle??? I mean if you want to throw money away on one I can't stop you but I can almost guarantee that it will never get used.

You may be thankful for that later. My son spends time with my grandparents a lot and transferring the car seat is SUCH a pain in the ass.

  • A lady is looking at my car in an hour. I realllly hope it sells because I need a AWD vehicle for our cruddy MN winters AND something bigger for 2 car seats. I'm nervous about the whole buying/selling interaction though. Just cuz I hate dealing with people.

  • @zarkarella‌ I'm mostly thinking in the first year when are they going to be taking our son somewhere that I'm not also going? I still don't think they've fully realized how things will be different with this baby than how they were with my niece (BIL is a single dad & was active duty Navy when she was small so they helped raise her).

Yeah, our son is 6 and spends weeks at a time with his grandparents. He was a year old I think before he spent more than a day with them.

Shoot, id take this as an invitation for lots of free babysitting and them signing up for one overnight weekend a month!!! ;)

I think a base would have been more practical. I wonder why they feel like they need their own car seat.

Is it an infant seat or the convertible? The convertible you can use for a few years so it may come in handy later on even if you don't plan on them taking the baby for awhile. We even use my mom's spare seat when we travel on planes so that we don't risk our own getting damaged.
  • I don't ever go to McDonalds. I prefer Wendy's if I'm going that route, but twice in the last 2-3 weeks I have attempted to go to 2 different locations for an Oreo mcflurry. Both times I was told their ice cream machine was down. WTH?!? I gave the first place a pass because it was still the morning and maybe that's the line the run before they get the machine going, but 2 in the afternoon at a totally different location and the same thing? I think that may be the last time I ever attempt to get anything from McDs. Thank goodness for Dairy Queen close to home. Had an Oreo blizzard instead and I'm sure it was 1000x better than what I would have gotten.
  • I'm not sure if any of you guys have heard this, but I was out with a friend today (who has a 3 yr old and another on the way), and she mentioned that eggplant can send you into labor - not that we need that right now.  Has anyone heard this before?
I think there's a legend about eggplant parm from a restaurant that put a lot of women in labor but I don't think eggplant itself does. If anything, the spices in it help but I don't think it's something that would send you into labor at any time if your body isn't ready, just like any of the other stuff they suggest (spicy foods, sex, walking, etc). I could be wrong but if eggplant itself was an issue I think it would be on the do not eat list.
  • Sorry if I was a douche canoe earlier - i really thought the woman was out at a bar binge drinking. I knew one of you guys would be far better informed on her situation than me haha. That and the fact that all the people on the post were claiming since Grandma drank and smoked while pregnant with them and none of them is obviously messed up, women should do as much of they want of both because obviously their family is conclusive evidence. They make me cranky.
  • Didn't mean to appear to post & run...my Sunday afternoon nap was calling :-) My IL's are just really excited about this baby and sometimes get a little too enthusiastic for me. I usually just laugh & shake my head.

I forgot to register for birth again. Again. I'm really failing at this STM thing. It's supposed to be done between 18 and 20 weeks. Oops. The registration is closed tomorrow.

You whaaaaaaa?! Are those dates standard? Am I really behind? :-/
