Haha ok I'm a bitch for stating I think it's disgusting. It is disgusting in my opinion. Dh agreed with me and my son is cut. He is fine with it and I doubt he'll ever complain. You all are on some hormonal high horses. Obviously this topic isn't for you if you don't want to hear anyone else's opinions.

I also think vernix is gross and umbilical cords; disgusting. But as an adult, an uncut penis is not attractive to me. I think it looks... Gross. So I chose to circumcise my son. End of story. Jesus, let's take this way out there and make a huge deal because my opinion of what looks gross to me really bothers you. ::eye roll::

Do you have any respect for the human body and the numerous structures and functions it has and preforms? It's pretty fucking cool!

Vernix is anti microbial and protects a newborn from the assault of bacteria right after birth.

The umbilical cord is filled with something called whartons jelly that helps keep it from being compressed or tied in tight knots so as not to compromise blood flow.

The foreskin is filled with nerve endings and helps prevent chafing during sex.

These things have functions and are miracles of evolution, your "disgusting" label is so confusing to me.

You know, I always just assumed we would because that was just like the standard for people my age. But, when I was pg with my son, it turned out my husband was strongly against it even though he is. He just couldn't wrap his head around a cosmetic surgery...and figured our son could choose to do it later. And, I did more research and in 2011 it wasn't being recommended in either direction.So between that and the fact that there is a strong anti-movement here within the Boston medical community, we didn't do it.

I will say I wasted a lot of time worrying about this while pg. And, I have not regretted that decision once. Especially since the trend nationally is to not do it. These kids won't be the exception to the norm. But, I do think it is a personal decision and I can see where people come out on the other side of the decision. These were just our reasons.

Your "opinion" is actually an insult to anyone who is uncircumcised, and to anyone who chose not to circumcise as you just called them or their baby son "gross". You are entitled to your opinion (just like the people on the which-name-sounds-better-thread), but perhaps you could try not to be such an asshole about it. This is obviously a vanity issue for you (which is superficial) and that was a bitchy thing to say.

It's a personal choice that should be made in consultation with your doctor.

Wait, what? Personally, I couldn't care less whether or not someone else decides to circ their kid. I just want to make sure I'm understanding you correctly. You are forcing your son to undergo a medical procedure that removes part of their body PURELY for aesthetic reasons because you don't want a "disgusting" son, but a parent who may or may not be forcing their kid to undergo a much less invasive procedure that is also purely aesthetic is also "gross"?

We have researched peer-reviewed studies and and read recommendations for and against from doctors. There is not right or wrong, just right or wrong for your family.

I don't get the whole "leave the decision up to your husband; he's the one with the penis".

My wife and I are a same sex couple (two women). There is no man with a penis to decide, so I guess it is up to us. Even if there was a man involved, I don't see why it wouldn't be a decision made by two equal partners, whether they have penises or not. People who don't have penises still have brains, right? A brain is all you need to do to weigh the evidence, do research, and think about what kind of decision is right for your family.

While parents are free to do what they want, I don't get having the baby circumcised for aesthetic reasons either. Saying an uncut penis looks "disgusting" is just really immature.

Personally, I don't find penises very attractive... whether circ'd or not... but that's what they are. Penisis. No big deal. Vaginas aren't the greatest thing to look at either. But they both serve an amazing biological purpose, and the foreskin is important too!

I don't think ear-piercing is comparable, but I also don't want to pierce our daughter's ears until she's old enough to express desire for it. Just like I wouldn't circ our son without his request either.

I always assumed I would do it, but kind of got an open mind about it recently. DH is pretty set on wanting to and I would just as soon stick with my original plan for religious reasons. We're not Jewish, but Christianity stems from Judaism so I feel like we should abide by that. God tends to have pretty good reasons for telling us to do certain things! But i have absolutely nothing against those who choose not to do it, especially since I was on the fence about it myself.
