Overbelly or Underbelly?

For you STMs or higher, during your previous pregnancies did you prefer overbelly maternity pants or underbelly?  I'm just curious as there are some really good deals on zulily right now, but I don't want to order something and hate it.  I know there's no guarantee I will agree with the majority.  Just wondering....

  • I prefer over but it is all preference.

  • I only had over belly stuff last time and hated all of it. It rolled down a lot and I was always feeling hot and claustrophobic...worse than panty hose!

I'm going for under belly this time, and hoping I like it better! Will be interested to see what people here say. :)

  • I will say when I'm not pregnant I never go without a tank top underneath so I think it is a security thing
  • I went for over belly with pants. The under ones always fell down. For shorts and skirts, I went with underbelly. In fact, I wore shorts that were two sizes up than what I normally wore. Those were more comfortable to me than maternity shorts.

  • I loved over the belly, they just felt more comfy to me. DD was a winter baby though, so no issues with the heat.

  • I had all over belly the first time, but DD was born in April and it's cold here so I didn't mind it. I'm thinking I won't want over belly for summertime...

  • Over belly drove me crazy because my skin was sooooo itchy from stretching. However, I found that overbelly with the band folded down stayed up better than underbelly.

  • Under with both children and this one too! Especially in the hot summer!!
  • I liked the under best.

  • I wore over last time. Toward the end of the pregnancy they drove me crazy because they felt very constricting. I'll probably switch to under at the end this time but wear over until the last few weeks.

  • Under hit my belly the wrong way and hurt after about 20 weeks.  I wore mostly over after 20 weeks.

This was me, too.  But, I wore A LOT of dresses, and I had some skirts that were under, and I liked them too but I often felt self-conscious about my shirt staying down and covering my belly.

I'm also completely not the type to wear bikinis and don't ever want my belly exposed at all, pregnant or not, so maybe that's where the comfort of having over-belly pants comes in.  DD was born in Sept, and I didn't find the over-belly stuff to be too hot in the summer.

  • I had a combination of both and I hated over. You (or at least I) could see the line of where the pants ended so I needed to be careful in which shirts I used with over belly pants. Under was a lot more comfortable for me, not as hot (and I was pregnant through winter in CO) and I didn't have to deal with the belly part rolling down.

  • I definitely prefer under the belly. I've had two September babies so I have been very pregnant during the summer before, it's way cooler.

  • Over for me.  I'm short waisted.  The half ones looked terrible on me and the under ones wouldn't stay up.

  • Under belly! The over belly ones I always had to yank up, plus they made me itchy or left a weird line across my belly that showed through a light shirt

  • I only got a few pairs of shorts but they were all underbelly. I hate high waisted anything so I knew to get underbelly. Plus my hips are way bigger than my waist and I hate the feeling of it bunching up.

  • I really don't love either. I feel that they generally slide and sag and are unflattering on me either way. Over kept them up better but rolled and weren't super comfy bc of that. Under were more comfortable for me but they didn't stay on or in place well. On a mission to find some good maternity pants. Will let you know if I find something I'm in love with. I saw all of the jeans on Zulily today but didn't buy any bc I was unsure. I did buy a pair of black pants (under) we will see.
  • I like over because it is cold where I live.

  • I had mostly over belly and I liked it because I carried really low, so pants had a hard time staying up. I can imagine that in July, I may not be wearing a lot of over belly though. It will depend.

  • Early on under but later over. Otherwise I couldn't keep them up! Kohls cheaper motherhood brand had weak elastic so those were a pain too I felt like pinning them to my bra sometimes :)

  • I loved the overbelly.  It felt like it stayed on better.  Underbelly just dug into my pelvis and kept sliding down.

  • Over belly--the full panel ones. I bought some of the under ones in the beginning & ditched them quickly. They felt like I was being squeezed in all the wrong places. I preferred to have minimal pressure on my lower belly.
  • Definitely over belly.  I love the full panel pants!  They were the only ones that I could get to stay up.  I tried the underbelly pants, but I could never get them to stay up.  Apparently just because you are overweight, it doesn't mean that you have a butt to hold up your pants.  With the underbelly pants I always felt like they were falling (and usually they were) or that my belly was showing under my shirt and over my pants (sometimes it was towards the end).  Both my boys are winter babies though, so the heat wasn't much of a problem.  We shall see how I do this summer.  I'm thinking I'll be mostly in dresses.

  • Wow! Seems like it's about 50/50. Thanks for your help ladies! I got one of each so I can see what I like better. If I don't like one I'm only out $12-13...

  • I like under.
  • I can't do the under belly ones. I want to because they seem to be more available now but they aren't comfortable to me. I carry low and they press on my stomach and hurt. :/ so over it is.

Over! I hated all my pants that went under my belly - I actually gave them away to a pregnant friend even after finding out I was expecting again. The larger my belly became the more uncomfortable I found under belly pants. They always hit me in the wrong spot and felt like they were putting too much pressure on me. In the beginning when my bump was small the over belly pants seemed unnecessary and hot (it was summer). But before long I loved them. I won't buy anything but full panel pants this time.

  • Skip the panel in summer and go straight for Maxi dresses. I hated anything pressing on my belly whether over or under in the third tri with both boys.
  • I had mostly over belly. I felt like they were more supportive and the underbelly ones always fell down. I did have a couple of pairs of shorts that were under and those were fine.

Everything is uncomfortable at the end but yoga pants. ;-)

  • All about the over
  • Gotta have under!! Aftrer years of wearing low rise jeans/pants I just CAN'T do anything higher, the overbelly make me feel like I am choking.

  • underbelly for me because the overbelly is HOT in the summer. And, for me, the overbellys never stayed up well anyway.

I second this! I practically lived in Maxi dresses with my last pregnancy.
